This takes 30 seconds and is crucial. Net neutrality is about to disappear! John Oliver's instructions (which crashed the FCC website the last time this issue came up) created a fast way to tell the agency we want equal access, and equal speed for everyone. Do it now - 30 seconds tops - then cut and paste and share!!!

Jack:

I have a question. Does this mean that internet providers will no longer charge customers more for faster speeds? I get 300MB downloads - but have to pay $100 per month for that. But if I would accept 30MB download speed, then it would be $30 a month.

I thought we had net neutrality? If so, why are we getting charged more for faster speeds?

My hunch is that this bill doesn't affect the bills customer's pay - but rather, charge businesses different prices for different speeds (like charging Netflix more, for example)?

Just trying to understand if this affects us, or just the companies?

Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers must treat all data on the Internet the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication. For instance, under these principles, internet service providers are unable to intentionally block, slow down or charge money for specific websites and online

This doesn?t jive with Jack?s message. The above says they can?t discriminate by iser. Yet Jack?s message say ?don?t let net neutrality disappear?, which means it is in effect now.

But ISP?s are currently charging us users more money to get more speed.

I think this issue doesn?t affect us as users, but rather companies that are trying to distribute their content. And companies that use a ton of bandwidth, like Netflix, should pay more, shouldn?t they? No different than those who use more electric power have a higher bill?

Maybe I am confused on this?

ISPs can offer better speeds for different pricing, but they can't manipulate the content. Which means you can shop around for a better level of speed, but all the content is treated the same. With the ending of net neutrality, your ISP can manipulate the rate at which you download some sites, or not allow you to download them at all. To use your analogy with the power company, you may find the power provided is limited when they know you'll need it most and charge a premium to access it "fully".

If your ISP decides to take some retarded moral stance, you may not like that they are the ones deciding whether or not you can go to a sports gambling forum. Or, for the privilege to visit that forum, a premium may need to be paid for the gambling package.

Mags: If your ISP is the cable company, do you think they'll be streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime at a speed that jeopardizes their cable subscriptions? They are forced to with net neutrality.
