They turn the mic on after the recording. "Artists" do this all of the time. During concerts often times certain songs are recorded while others are sang live.

You lived in LA?

No, this was the early 70's. He lived on Outer Drive in Detroit and drove a white Rolls. I lived about 6 blocks from him and would occasionally drive by his house where his father shot him.


On April 1, 1984, Marvin Gaye Sr. shot and killed his son after a physical altercation; the father claimed he acted in self-defense but would later be convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
