Guess I didn't read the whole thread carefully -- and got sidetracked with the context of the racial comment. Agree with both of you, Lebron has done nothing to get the impression of being a gang banger. I just think this is a notoriety issue, nothing racial at all.

of course lebron is a gang

its called the nba. a gang of multi-millionaire hooligans. but as far as that goes, to my knowledge hes one of the better behaved ones, and is well spoken.

and its not a race thing. theres plenty of poorly behaved white guys in the league too.

as for his mother, she should know better.

donovan's mom on all those chunky soup commercials is about to drive me insane... compared to that, lebron's mom in the news is a breath of fresh air

LeBron James' mom charged with drunken drivingAssociated Press

AKRON, Ohio -- The mother of Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has been arrested for driving while intoxicated, disorderly conduct and other charges, police said.

Gloria James, 37, of suburban Green, was pulled over Friday night by two off-duty officers, said Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards.

They were working security for the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority in an unmarked car when they spotted James, who was alone in the 2004 Cadillac Escalade, he said.

The officers say James' car "almost hit" the housing authority car, Edwards said.

"She starts weaving in and out of traffic and passing people on the right," he said.

The officers said James smelled of alcohol and she appeared to be disoriented, Edwards said. She struggled with police as they attempted to put handcuffs on her. They put her in the back seat of the housing authority car and she kicked out a window, Edwards said.

James was taken to a police station, where she refused to take breath or sobriety tests, Edwards said.

She posted a $2,500 bond and was released.

She was charged with reckless operation, speeding for driving 50 mph in a 30-mph zone, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, disorderly conduct and damaging police equipment.

LeBron James, in Salt Lake City for a game against the Utah Jazz, declined to comment.

"I don't have all the info of what's going on," he said. "Once I find that out and once I sit down with my family, you know, I'll be able to comment on it a little bit better."

Beaner:

LeBron James was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio. His mother, Gloria James, was only 16 at the time. His biological father, Anthony McClelland, was an ex-con uninterested in being a parent. Gloria raised LeBron on her own, and to this day he goes by her last name.

When he was in his senior year of high school and heading for the NBA. He did some things that year that suggested he might not be ready for what was ahead.

There was the incident with the freebie throw-back jerseys that got him kicked out of the state tournament and his reaction to it, which was essentially to claim entitlement. He was taking advice from a friend of his mother, and the fear was that it was just a hustler who was going to take him for all he was worth. Then there was the Hummer his mother, who never had two nickels to rub together, magically was able to purchase for him.
