Singer admits having believers in audience 'can cloud my enjoyment'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Singer Linda Ronstadt appears to have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy toward Republicans and Christians who might be in her audiences ? she'd rather not know they are there.

In a recent interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, the entertainer said:

Linda Ronstadt

"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

Ronstadt says she routinely dedicates a song in her concerts to leftist filmmaker Michael Moore, director of the anti-Bush movie "Fahrenheit 9/11." As WorldNetDaily reported, hundreds of fans at an Aladdin Hotel Las Vegas show over the weekend stormed out after she made a tribute to Moore. The incident, in which she also made disparaging remarks about the hotel and Las Vegas, caused her to be banned from the facility.

The singer, 58, sees Moore as a patriot.

"I've been dedicating a song to him ? I think he's a great patriot ? and it splits the audience down the middle, and they duke it out," she told the San Diego paper.

you have to understand that celebrities look down upon we peons(all except sir edward)as their chattel.......

they live in a surreal world in which 9-5`s and humping overtime to feed, clothe and house your wife and children is an unknown concept.....

with the media fawning over them....hanging on their every word....it`s not a revelation that they bask in a sense of overblown self importance....

the perception that their "fans" need to hear and follow their moronic political insights.....

or lack thereof...

i think that`s why your average american despises their overblown sense of self-importance...

The part about the overtime is ironic to me as Georgie just cut it. He also has no idea about 9 to 5 jobs as he has been on scholarship from daddy his whole life.

Can any of you guys please point out to me where she says, "I don't like singing for Christians"!!!!

Talk about taking something out of context!!

She'd rather not know if anyone there is a fundamental Christian. Hell of a lot of difference I'd think.

Hey, maybe she just doesn't like Stem Cell research labs being blown up either.

Oh, and for the record...I'm pretty sure the only time I'd ever seen/heard Linda Ronstadt was once about 20 years ago on the Muppet's! :142lmao:

mr christo....people pay to hear the woman sing....they pay good money to see her perform....

not to hear some matron`s political point of view...

everybody has an opinion....and right now in the states,we are living in a very polarized political climate....

there are appropriate places and times to voice ones opinions.....

i`d say that it`s very possible that people wanting to go out for the evening and enjoy a show may well not feel like being bludgeoned over the head with some bore`s political point of view....

i`d call it very unprofessional....and inconsiderate of her audience....

but,it`s o.k. if it fits your political bent....right?

i`d say the same thing if some entertainer broke into a pro-bush or cheney rant in the middle of their act...

and this comment?

""I've been dedicating a song to him – I think he's a great patriot – and it splits the audience down the middle, and they duke it out," she told the San Diego paper.

lord,i abhor bomb throwers...

the woman`s a moron...she obviously gets her jolly`s by being devisive...

As I said, I have no idea what kind of woan she is, gw, but I still don't see what is so wrong??

Unprofessional, yeah, true I guess....But the fact is by doing it she is only hurting herself. 100 people walked out...Good on them. If she wants to (is stupid enough to!) alienate half of her audience that's her call.

I DO find it 'offensive' when these celebs use forums such as the Emmy's or Academy Awards etc...because that is simply taking advantage of a priviliged position.....But if it's HER show, I see no problem with her saying what the hell she wants.
Like I said if she wants half the audience to leave (or not show up) then, yes she's an idiot, but where are these appropriate times and places to voice ones opinions??

Can I ask what the difference is between her breaking into a 'rant', or George W. showing up at the Chiefs training camp unannounced? A few of the players walked off the field in protest. It's ALL politics...we're subject to it every day from every angle.

Ppl didn't pay to hear GW. If they want to walk out thats their right. I'm sure Bush didn't complain, but the 'Entertainers' sure do.

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."

"Besides," he continued, "when I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that's a good reason right there to vote for Bush."

Haha!! Come on Channy!! Poor effort that!! He's bascially saying he knows/cares NOTHING about politics.....And yet he is supporting Bush!! lol!!...Makes sense to me!

"When I was a kid and my parents started talking about politics, I'd run to my room and put on the Rolling Stones as loud as I could.
If only more considerate voters had such a well informed upbringing!!

Oh, and btw, again, I don't see her 'complaining' that people left??

She didn't get a chance-Her action prompted Aladdin President Bill Timmins, who attended the concert, to ban Ronstadt from the property. Staff checked her out of her room and escorted her to her tour bus.

Cooper is a McCain fan. He is just being honest. You have no idea what or how much he knows- just basing your assupmtions on his backing of Bush. Elvis Presley once stated to a reporter who asked his opinion of Viet Nam- "I'm just an Entertainer." Guess he should have started w/the name-calling.

If only more considerate voters had such a well informed upbringing!!
I wasn't into politics as a kid either... I guess you were.

Lets just agree to disagree. :SIB

I'm just basing my opinon on what I'm reading!!! Sorry, mate, he doesn't exactly come across as the most intellectual, politicaly understanding type??? huh??

Guess he gets easily offended when 'rock stars' actually have minds of their own and DO read the Washington Journal??

Chan, Chan, Chan....You are reading SO much into an article of UTTER CRAP!!!

Again....So repeat after me....she didn't actually complain about it!???
...Hmmm...I bet she keeps doing it, so I guess then she doesn't care how much her opinion hurts her reputation?

And Elvis didn't have an opinion?? Oh well...gee, maybe he wanted to sell twice as many records? Maybe he REALLY didn't care?... Or maybe he just didn't have a clue??...I don't know the answer....do you??

Thanks for goin back & forth Mr. C. I like posts where we can spar w/out trying to offend just because the other person takes a stance. I like reading your posts. Sorry I'm on graveyards- 8 & 12 mix - for over a week and it gets old real quick. Will try to bring something to the table tonight. Couldn't remember what aftremath of Bali bombing was, but I know south of Thailand/Malaysia is having trouble.
:weed: In closing I'll see your Ronstadt, Mellencamp & Bon Jovi and raise the Alice Cooper ante w/a Motor City MadMan, (Ted Nugent).

You mean we weren't trying to offend? :D :D

You can keep your old "entertainers" too....I'll bring Shiley McLain to the table, she'll know exactly what you are holding! ;)

Oh, and Stalone's mum...Isn't she the one with the psychic dogs??

feelin a bit knackered- all I can think of is Miss Cleo.

I was trying to get across that if Alice, as in Cooper, said Bush is the second coming of Hitler and that he is an Idiot plus he lied to attack Iraq for $, Hollywood & their ilk would have welcomed him as bravely speaking out against this evil, corrupt administration.

Do you really think Jessica Lange, Alec Baldwin, Ed Asner, etc. and others are that profound? Lets not forget Janeane Garafolo's rapier like wit either= "Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go, 'Oh my God, you're insulting me.' That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, 'We're here, we're queer!' -- that's what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride."

P.S. substitute Democrats & Muslims for Republicans and Christians and tell me what would happen?
