Right! Didn?t know Hammer was Indian. Lol. Wonder if it was tax free? 🧐
Are you sure he wasn?t Puerto Rican?

I tell this story and kind of laugh.
I had a friend who I was told by some other people that at one point he was the biggest book in Texas and he took bets from all the oil executives. This other guy told me he use to fly private jets to Vegas and would high roll there and partied and gambled all the time. So him placing big bets in Vegas were no big deal. He got busted and his options were to give up booking or go to jail. He gave up booking but not betting.
So we get hooked up with this guy that is supposedly great at capping the horses. He will give us the plays and all we have to do is get him a bet for $50 on anything he wants. Everyday we would get a call and he would have 3 to 6 quinella bets from different race tracks. They would pay somewhere between 5 to 1 to 25 to one. So everyday I would get the bets and place a $100 on each of the quinellas. A bad day would be that they would go like 3-3. After a couple weeks I started to increase the plays to $150 for each bet.
These bets are just killing it. I am playing with a pretty big book and just beating him like a red headed step child. He taps out after about a month and says no more. He cuts me off just before I quit the day job. I felt like I had found the golden goose.
So my buddy decides to go to Vegas for the weekend. I get 5 quinellas. He gets off the plane and goes to a pay phone and calls me from the airport. I tell him to hurry because the first race goes off in about 45 minutes. I give him 5 quinella bets. He hops into a cab and drives to Caesars Palace. Walks in and gives them the 5 plays for $200 a piece. They say just a minute....teller leaves.....come back and so I am sorry sir but we don't want your action.
He calls me from a payphone and tells me what happens. Gets in a cab and heads to another sports book. Tries to place the bets and gets the same answer. He calls and tells me again. I am thinking what the hell....how am I going to make any money. Off to another cab.
This time he changes it up. Goes to a third sports book and tries to bet just $200 on the first race. Same results.
Proceeds to run up quite the cab fare tab in this story. Goes to another sports book and this time drops the amount to $100. Same results. Next book $50, then $20 and finally tries to bet a $5 quinella and gets the reaction sorry sir we dont want your action. This from a guy that would place 5 figure bets on football games in Vegas.
I tell people that Vegas was afraid to take a $5 quinella bet from me.
The guy I got the picks from hoped on a plane that week to go to Phoenix to pick up over $200,000 from a bookie that week.
All these years later I think the picks were coming from the guy out of Pittsburgh that made millions betting on horses. Made so much that he is known to have won a million dollar horse bet and didnt even go and cash the ticket.
All I know is that picks were money.
This is off my memory which I might not get the facts perfect but you will get the idea. In regards to the winning ticket that wasn't cashed. I believe it was in a southeastern country like Taiwan. They have something like the lottery where you have to pick the winner of 10 races. It is like a national thing. The pool was very big and there was an estimate of like 1 in 4 people bought a ticket to try to win.
He has the winning ticket and purposely didn't cash it. The reason according to the story is that any winning tickets that are not cashed go directly to a charity that helps the poor people in the country. There is supposedly a picture of him with the winning ticket that he never cashed. I should see if I can find the article on this guy. Probably one of the most famous gamblers in history and most people have never heard of him.
