In no way am I defending looting or the people doing it BUT for all those people that had NO WAY or means to get out, it is all about survival. If you think about it, every person on here under the same circumstances would be stealing and taking food, water and supplies to help themselves and families to SURVIVE. They have nothing, no electricity, no refrigeration, no place to buy food, much less the means or money to buy it. I hope the National Guard can set up quickly enough to bring relief, rations and supplies to help these people. Other wise, it could get to martial law and every person for himself down there.

On the other hand, the people that robbing and stealing from the electronics, jewelry and other stores/vendors should be held for their actions just like there had not been a disaster. That goes for the poor, the rich and especially the law enforcement! There is nothing you can use a TV or stereo without power!!!

Godspeed on relief to these folks!

For some ....its looting
For some.....its an emergency (food and clothing)
For most businesses......its insurance

Devastating to all......I'd be looking out for my family as well..

Most of this stuff is ruined anyway right? I mean so they take a 50 inch Tv, where the fukc are they gonna put it? And its not as if they can use it anytime soon. If its food and other things, then have at it. Its all a total loss anyway from insurance standpoint. Not saying anyone is right or wrong but until you are there I think you have to reserve judgement.

Dawgball,

Don't understand your statement about Government and Religion at all. Government is about protection of life and property, not morals

Right now, there is no government in the Big Easy.

Just a thought.....

Anybody (THE LOOTERS) think about helping others in need? Instead of floating stolen items down the flooded streets, maybe go and help others trapped on their roofs and in their attics. Attempt to work with others in this situation instead of selfishly thinking of what they can get for free.

It's total bullshit to think these people are remotely thinking about their families or they have "temporarily" lost their wits.

Still no Jesse sighting.

I'm sure he's wrapped up with some other world emergency right now.

Officials Helpless Against Looters

Wednesday, August 31, 2005 7:21 p.m. ET
By KEVIN McGILL Associated Press Writer
NEW ORLEANS (AP)

-- With law officers and National Guardsmen focused on saving lives, looters around the city spent another day Wednesday brazenly ransacking stores for food, beer, clothing, appliances _ and guns.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco said she has asked the White House to send more people to help with evacuations and rescues, thereby freeing up National Guardsmen to stop looters.

"Once we get the 3,000 National Guardsmen here, we're locking this place down," Mayor Ray Nagin said. "It's really difficult because my opinion of the looting is it started with people running out of food, and you can't really argue with that too much. Then it escalated to this kind of mass chaos where people are taking electronic stuff and all that."

Amid the chaos Wednesday, thieves commandeered a forklift and used it to push up the storm shutters and break the glass of a pharmacy. The crowd stormed the store, carrying out so much ice, water and food that it dropped from their arms as they ran. The street was littered with packages of ramen noodles and other items.

Looters also chased down a state police truck full of food. The New Orleans police chief ran off looters while city officials themselves were commandeering equipment from a looted Office Depot. During a state of emergency, authorities have broad powers to take private supplies and buildings for their use.

Managers at a nursing home were prepared to cope with the power outages and had enough food for days, but then the looting began. The Covenant Home's bus driver surrendered the vehicle to carjackers after being threatened.

Bands of people drove by the nursing home, shouting to residents, "Get out!" On Wednesday, 80 residents, most of them in wheelchairs, were being evacuated to other nursing homes in the state.

"We had enough food for 10 days," said Peggy Hoffman, the home's executive director. "Now we'll have to equip our department heads with guns and teach them how to shoot."

At one store, hordes of people from all ages, races and walks of life grabbed food and water. Some drove away with trunkloads of beer.

At one point, two officers drew their guns on the looters, but the thieves left without incident. One of the officers said he is not going to arrest anyone for snatching up food and water.

One young man was seen wading through chest-deep floodwater, carrying a case of soda, after looting a grocery store.

"We will restore law and order," Blanco said. "What angers me the most is that disasters like this often bring out the worst in people. I will not tolerate this kind of behavior."

John Matessino, president of the Louisiana Hospital Association, said he had not heard of anyone breaking into the hospitals, but he added that thieves got into the parking garage at one hospital and were stealing car batteries and stereos.

Officials tried to balance security needs with saving lives.

"We're multitasking right now," said New Orleans Police Capt. Marlon Defillo. "Rescue, recovery, stabilization of looting, we're trying to feed the hungry."

New Orleans' homeland security chief, Terry Ebbert, said looters were breaking into stores all over town and stealing guns. He said there are gangs of armed men moving around the city. At one point, officers stranded on the roof of a hotel were fired at by criminals on the street.

The Times-Picayune newspaper reported that the gun section at a new Wal-Mart had been cleaned out by looters.

Authorities said an officer was shot in the head and a looter was wounded in a shootout. The officer and looter were expected to survive.

Just a few things from what ive heard since i live 2 hrs from New orleans.

1) They have jet skis and boats rescuing people but get this-you can drive a jet ski or boat ONLY if you have a gun with you. they are making rescuers bring some protecyion with them.

2) There were reports of women being raped at the Superdome. My wifes boss said its absloutely survival on the streets of new orleans.

3) My buddy was called out by the National Guard-talked to him yesterday and he said they got no guns, no batons, no nothing. There are practically fighting people with there hands and holding them down till someone can pick them up. This was about an hour from New Orleans.

4) My wife works at a nursing home and they got in 20 patients from new orleans yesterday. They evacuated there nursing home then went to another nursing home where the water started to rise then they spent the nite on the levee till they were rescued.

These people will meet their maker. Don't you worry about that. They don't realize that while they are doing this, they are wading around in a toxic river full of disease and filth. They will all get sick and some will die. I hope it is worth it to these animals. Lock down the city and let them loot and kill each other.
These are not humans they are animals.

no doubt.....chit is getting way out of control yet the self proclaimed leaders of the black community.....jesse...and big al.....aren't saying a thing? :cursin: I guarantee you that this is going to set race relations back a few steps right here.....white america is watching this chit in disbelief and anger.....wondering why two black female cops in full uniform are on camera looting a Wal Mart......wondering why these black looters are claiming they need food and water and diapers (which I could understand) yet they are floating a trash can full of electronic equipment down the street with the biggest chit eating grin on their face......wondering why blacks are claiming they "deserve" to do this because society "owes" it to them because society has oppressed them. Once again we are left with images of animal behavior...total lack of respect....total lack of discipline....total lack of caring for anybody except themselves....anybody want to step up? JESSE? AL? or are you too afraid of being considered a sell-out and being shunned by your black community if you do indeed say something? Given the fact we haven't heard from you yet, I think we know the answer....and yet you still demand our respect....please!! :cursin:
