11 years after 80% of New Orleans flooded, Louisiana has been struck again, only harder this time imo. This is being called a 500 year flood....The flooding in baton rouge, lafayette and surrounding areas has undoubtedly affected more homes and businesses than Hurricane Katrina flooding. Plus, i am hearing less than 15% of the affected have flood insurance since these areas are not classified as flood zones. I was brought to the verge of tears several times yesterday. 6 of us launched on 3 flat boats to deliver water and packs of tuna in a heavily hit area north of i10 and east of BR. We ran thru the supplies quickly and ended up transporting 6 people and 3 dogs (1 stray) back to the launch site. I keep thinking about the horses standing in water and a couple of cows on slightly higher ground. While the dogs aeemed ok, even rhe stray, the large animals looked confused. The worst feeling was a helplessness associated with not being able to help them.
On a positive note, it was awesome seeing everyone coming together. In fact, there were so many volunteers with flatboats that many were not allowed to launch.
Lastly, thanks again to the 6 or 7 of you who checked in on my well-being the last 2 days. That's actually why i started posting here again(much to the chagrin of my ole pals bbc and saint).
