11 years after 80% of New Orleans flooded, Louisiana has been struck again, only harder this time imo. This is being called a 500 year flood....The flooding in baton rouge, lafayette and surrounding areas has undoubtedly affected more homes and businesses than Hurricane Katrina flooding. Plus, i am hearing less than 15% of the affected have flood insurance since these areas are not classified as flood zones. I was brought to the verge of tears several times yesterday. 6 of us launched on 3 flat boats to deliver water and packs of tuna in a heavily hit area north of i10 and east of BR. We ran thru the supplies quickly and ended up transporting 6 people and 3 dogs (1 stray) back to the launch site. I keep thinking about the horses standing in water and a couple of cows on slightly higher ground. While the dogs aeemed ok, even rhe stray, the large animals looked confused. The worst feeling was a helplessness associated with not being able to help them.

On a positive note, it was awesome seeing everyone coming together. In fact, there were so many volunteers with flatboats that many were not allowed to launch.

Lastly, thanks again to the 6 or 7 of you who checked in on my well-being the last 2 days. That's actually why i started posting here again(much to the chagrin of my ole pals bbc and saint).

I'm surprised this hasn't been reported on more because I wasn't aware of how severe it really is. I don't watch much TV so many it has been.

Word around here is media has neglected the story nationally. Not as exciting as thug riots in Mil, i guess

Wow, that's tragic. Stay safe, Cie. My thoughts are with everything over there affected by this. I've already reached out to a few friends. Horrible to see this.

An old high school buddy in Baton Rouge has been posting the play by play and he was one of the fortunate ones to survive water getting in the house by mere inches.

Doesn't surprise me that you're out helping people. That's what good people do and your boys will watch and emulate you down the line

Best of Luck

Glad your friend is dry. I will be working in the thick of it the next 2 days. Talking to home owners, it appears water receded in baton rouge proper. Some surrounding areas not so lucky.

My boys setup a lemonade stand with neighborhood kids to support flood victims. I will take them to home depot or walmart saturday to buy gift cards. Makes a father feel good

Katrina was levee failure, so there wouldve been no flooding had levee system held up. This is just overflow from a slow rainstorm.
