Its been about 3-4 days now and I've just read everything and kept my mouth shut as I usually do until now, but I guess I couldn't help throwing in my 2 cents worth too. As a quick background, I also own and operate my own business( golf course) and I struggle all the time with what Jack's going thru here. As Fletch stated above it takes money to keep things like this going and everybody wants changes for the better as long as someone else is paying for them. I get 100's of great suggestions a year on improvements I should make. My standard answer is 'Sounds great, I'll send you the bill when it's done'. Of course this ends that conversation very quickly. (Bear with me, I'm going somewhere with this I think lol) Anyway every time I must make a price increase or change of some sort it meets with some resentment and outright boycott at times for a little while. I think the only mistake that was made about this whole thing was that it was done overnight without any warning. I've learned that as long as people know what's coming up front and ahead of time the shock and resentment are far less especially if you can explain your reasoning and justification for the changes. Sure some people will bitch if they get hung with a new rope but you can't please em all. As far as the pay for plays thing goes, although I truly respect the three cappers involved, I am not the level of player that could justify paying for their services. Besides I do this for a hobby and it would not be any fun at all if I just blindly followed someone else's plays. I love reading and anylizing all the different views and then forming my own plays based on MY judgement. That's what I love about this place, but I don't (nor does anyone else) have the right to expect all this info and data for free. My suggestion to Jack (although I'm sure unpopular) would be to announce that starting xxx there will be a $xxx (reasonable annual) subscription fee to join the site. Maybe have a week or month free trial period to attract new members. Sort out the people that want everything for nothing? Yes. Keep the site financially viable ? Yes. Piss some people off? Yes (but they will be back after they realise what they had). Slip the people you want what they deserve for their time and effort and it would be a win-win all the way around. Sorry for being so long winded here. Hope my point comes across right. Great work on all the improvements and I'd be your first subscriber.
