i had never seen Let It Ride til this summer when someone quoted it in the baseball forum about something. just thought i'd put an open request out for titles to check out (not just a top 10 list, that's easy and will be redundant).

especially looking for lesser-known flicks like Let It Ride. hilarious, btw!

thanks! :0corn

I enjoyed Let it Ride.

Not a hard-core gambling flick by any means, but good little comedy imo.....

I don't know how "unknown" these movies are, but I liked Owning Mahowny and Even Money for the simple fact that they don't glamourize gambling like so many movies do. If anything, they make you want to login to your sportsbook account and cash out all your money immediately.

I responded to this post based on the title, but just noticed you dig Let it Ride. Excellent flick, imo....

No problem. It's been a while since I've seen that movie, but I remember liking it a lot. It's one of those movies where they tie 4 or 5 storylines together, so if you like those types of movies you'll probably like it. And Devito is excellent in it.

1974, Elliot Gould and George Segal. This movie has it all: boozing, prostitutes, Reno, winning streak, sports betting. It helped mold me into a 12-year-old risk taker back in the day.

Bad Lieutenant

Keitel is a crooked cop doing drugs and betting on the Mets and losing and chasing.

Funny you mention Bad Lieutenant, as it's one of those movies I can't believe I still haven't seen. It's even been on one of the movie channels 3 or 4 times in the last month or two, but I always miss the beginning so I don't want to pick it up halfway through.

I knew about the drug angle, but I had no idea he was betting on sports, too. At some point I have to watch that movie before I die. :142smilie

Haven't seen Even Money; will try and watch over the weekend. Owning Mahowny stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman who just might be the best American actor working today.

I just googled him and it says he was in Hard Eight--says it was a small role--I'd say so, I don't remember him in it--its a gambling movie worth a look, IMO.

He is billed as "craps player" in Hard Eight :mj07:

not a big fan of Bad Lieutenant, thought the arc was a bit flat. could always see the end.

Yeah, I agree about Hoffman. He's always been one of my favorite actors. If he wasn't such a strange looking dude and if his head wasn't the size of a watermelon I'm sure he would be acknowledged as being one of the top actors by everyone, not just critics.
