Had our umpire clinic planning meeting tonight, which means we sat around and drank beer and talked about how dumb coaches are.
I umpired for 2 years when I was 14-15 years old ... got threatened many times by crazy parents and coaches tried to bully a 90 lb kid ... but I made $1500 and bought my 1st car in 1976 :0074
I started when I was 15 too. I think Murtaugh said it best, "I'm getting too old for this shit.
Parent are still crazy and mean as shit to young umpires. The more things change, the more crazy ass parents stay the same
Our Umpire Association was created to help teach new umpires proper mechanics. To brag a little, When we started in 2007 we only had one complex and now we provide umpires to 5 youth complexes, call High School Games when the contracted umps can't make it and also do NCBA college ball.

yep its amazing what parents and coaches will do to try and intimidate young umpires
my Dad is in the AL Hall of Fame for officiating high school football for 34 years ... he got offered twice to move to the SEC but he declined because he was a rocket scientist for NASA and did not want to give up his weekends for traveling
