I live about 5 miles away. I do go a lot but the temp here has been brutal since opening day. I usually make it up in the AM for the workouts. One of my favorite times, still mist on the track and the horses working out. I usually grab a soda or coffee and sit in one of the owner boxes. It is what they say alot of old time tradition and it is a beautiful track.

Funny I thought you were from Oakland till you mentioned Iowa corn then I looked!

I would really like to go to the track some day. I have talked to a few rail birds here and they say it very cool.

I have been a diehard A's fan since 1968. I have seen them play in person over 200 times. Not bad since I live 300 miles to the nearest MLB park. I flew out to Oakland last year and caught 8 games. I had a great time.

that's good :grins:

Raising your opponents score can be even more fun
than lowering your own. Either way, you still win!

Playing "hide the ball"

hide.jpg

If you can ever beat your opponent to his ball, it is your opportunity to play "hide the ball". Volunteer to 'help' him find his lost ball, if you do, pick it up. Then you can either move it behind a tree, or drop it into your pocket. If he sees you grab his ball, look at the ball and say, "are you playing lady pinks?"

Stomp their balls!

If your opponent is knocking them on the fairway, 'hide the ball' won't be an option. Don't be discouraged, you can still ruin his game. Make sure he is not looking, then step on his ball. You have to step hard enough to plant the ball, but with some finesse so it's not obvious from his stance. This will work every time if you can do it without being seen.

On the green

When you make it to the green always try to putt first. Take note of where your opponent is putting from. Once you make your putt, reach in with your hand and 'adjust' the grass around the cup. With your hand, push down the ground on the farside of the cup while reaching in the cup. Then pull ground up on the nearside of cup. If their putt is slow, the ball will have trouble clearing the hill you have made. This doesn't work very often, but you can do it on every hole and they may miss one or two because of it.
