Orleans Casino/Hotel is a very nice place. Rooms are equal or better than many on Strip. It is a favorite place for locals. Read visitor reviews here.
Only problem is if you stay at a fine local's casino like this, you won't wanna stay on the Strip in any low-priced option there again!

It is two miles straight down Tropicana Blvd from Tropicana Casino/Hotel. They run a free shuttle to sister property Barbary Coast on the strip. Shuttle runs every 20 mins and only crowded weekend nights. If sale/trade of Barbary Coast is finalized by Feb to Harrah's, they should still run the shuttle to somewhere on the Strip as all long term customers are used to it and expect it.

My favorite play here for rooms, tho, is the very nice Emerald Suites Cameron just across the side street from Orleans. For same price or less you get big suite with kitchen and free internet access.
And can still ride the free Orleans shuttle.

Caesars (Harrah's) has put bunch of money in the property last few years---updating rooms, finishing the strip access construction and such---folks say it is a much nicer experience staying there now. It did get rundown a bit few years back, but Harrah's is promoting the Caesars brand and have been working hard recently to bring the flagship property up to snuf.

I stayed at The Orleans last year in September. IMO, it is a piece of shit. In our room alone, the AC quit working twice, and the drain in the sink clogged 3 times.

Also, the actual casino is a dirty dump full of locals, ALL of which are A-holes. Customer service was non existent. In other words, I didn't like it. But for $80 a night vs $400, I will deal with it. The shuttle that runs every 20 minutes is a nice feature.

I did a search on travelaxe.com (which searches all the other travel discount sites) and for four nights, Feb 1 and check out Feb 5, they showed (picked from the huge list):

Orleans $261.60 (lodgings.com)

Stratosphere $310.65 (Hotels.com)

Circus Circus $398.72 (orbitz)

Sahara $500.00 (Skoosh)

Riviera $519.93 (LVTB)

Tropicana $601.68 (Hotels.com)

Luxor $867.64 (WorldRes)

----for budget minded! Four Queens downtown Fremont St for $178.76

Is that the total or per night?

That's the total for all the four nights. One or two adults. I just ran the search again and it showed Barbary Coast (that's a deal!) and Sahara a bit cheaper, Riviera $120 more, and the rest the same.

Travelaxe.com also shows Fairfield Grand Desert Resorts down Harmon road from the Strip at $706.32 for the four nights.

Jack, any further details on the cocktail party on Friday ?

Don't suppose there is any chance it could be on Saturday instead?

To those of you who haven't booked your air yet... by far, the best rates you should find are Saturday thru Tuesday.

not yet, mama. still a lot of planning to do on my part and getting with the right people on the vegas end. still plenty of time though.

if nothing else, we can meet almost anywhere because it's going to be tough finding a private place for friday and saturday.

"budget hotels"

"budget hotels"

Concerning these "budget" hotels, Clarion, etc, I know they're not on the strip per se, but do they have shuttles going to and from? Or is it save the money, and get a rental car type thing. Also, are these joints in the seedy part of town?

Timeshares will be full so no Fairfield for me. I just booked at the Casino Royale for a 4 nights, cost about $376. Would have stayed at the Trop for $550 but If no one is staying there I like being close to Venetian/Caesars/Bellagio/Aladdin. The Central location will be good. Not interested in paying $1000+ when I won't be in the room, but to sleep.

Canceled Casino Royale with no penalty. Got a 850 SF Suite at Hilton Grand Vacations. One of the biggest rooms available w/hot tub, plasma tvs, etc. so I'll be staying there with my wife:) Timeshare promotion pays for 2 nights, other 2 nights came up to $500. Told them wife was Fairfield employee and still qualified, no problem there and will be easy to say no at presentation because of this.

Jack -- I apologize, but I have to retract my attendance. I will be in Ukraine during that time.

Hopefully, this is something that I don't miss again.
