My father was in something similar....think this was the rules....when the United Nations started in 1946 in New York all the American citizens that worked there started a club-pool.. I think it was 250 Americans....they wrote a charter and rules...think everyone put in $10 a month...could be wrong about that...not sure...they had a treasurer and elected a President,Vice,etc...they named themselves after The Last Mohicans".. their official name was " United Nations Society of Mohicans"....they would only meet 2 times a year at a luncheon in the delegates lounge....I think their dues paid for their lunch...the only thing I remember was the last man standing{ I guess alive" gets the pot...I also remember many of my fathers friends who joined after 1946 were upset they were left out of this group...I think my father tried to get many of his fellow buddies in the club but were refused...imagine working for the UN for 30 years but weren't allowed to join the Mohicans... I can remember my fathers best friends always calling this group a bunch of elitists when he mentioned he was going to the UN for the luncheon...this was after they retired....my father after he retired would only go visit the UN for those luncheons... but when my father passed away there was no one who I knew that was a Mohican...my uncle is still alive at 96 and my father got him a job at the UN in 1948..he started out as a custodian and retired as a librarian...but he knows about as much as me....but I always was intrigued on how many were still alive and how much was in the pot...they stopped the luncheons a few years before my father passed away...think my father told me there were about 30-40 still alive...
I always wondered if there are any alive today and what was in the pot....all I have left is " flathead 25 cent stamp with a chiefs head on an invitation card.. United Nations Society of Mohicans" Annual Luncheon
UN Headquarters Thursday Sept 13,Sept 1990......and a mug that I keep in my trophy case...
this contest that started in 2008 bought back some memories..
