The fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is off, promoter Bob Arum said Wednesday, as an attempt to mediate a dispute over blood testing failed.

Promoters had reached a tentative deal in December for the world?s top two fighters to meet on March 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

But the fight ran aground over Mayweather?s insistence on Olympic-style drug testing. The sides agreed to mediation this week in Santa Monica, Calif. before retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein, but a solution could not be reached and the sides walked away.

Arum said Pacquiao is planning to fight Yuri Foreman, the World Boxing Association super welterweight champion, on either March 13 or March 20 in a bid for yet another world title. Arum said he wants to put that fight in Las Vegas, but said he still has to negotiate a site and will speak to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about holding it in Cowboys Stadium.

Mayweather is expected to pursue a fight for March with former super lightweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

Mayweather and Paulie has to be the worst fight out there.

Eventually Floyd will have to relent because I think MGM and HBO are tired of him fighting mismatches. he'll have to step up against someone to make mucho dinero.

Their choice of potential opponents speaks volumes. So Mayweather to pull up a guy who couldn't punch a lick at 140 to welterweight. Fraud is becoming a more apporpriate nickname by the second. I don't believe Foreman would be such an easy task for Paq because of the natural two weight class difference and Foreman's backfoot style. Foreman will let his hands go frantically if he's pressed enough..

Yuri is a tough kid. Tall, strong and awkward with a lot of discipline and intelligence. I think it's a tougher fight than Floyd and a much lesser payout.

Good observation as Pac quickly nixed that idea. There are limitations to what Pac can accomplish and styles do make fights. The tall standupish Morales gave Pac fits. Of course that was several yrs ago but you get my drift.

I might be one of the only ones here that still believe this fight is going to get done. 100 mills is just too much to pass up. The promotors, fighters, managers, trainers all lose out on what essentially will be a payday for all to retire on. I think the books should put up a line whether or not the fight gets made in 2010. My money says it gets signed.

Yeah, I think it has to happen, too. Probably not in March, though. I'm pretty much tired of all the bantering from both camps on it. I'm gonna try to let it go and when it happens I'll be very pleased.

The sad thing is it was so hot but all the posturing and the ultimate impasse soured it. Not that it won't be great if it happens but the moment was right, NOW, to get it done and that time has passed.

Like the old saying goes, "strike while the iron is hot." And they failed to do that.
