Veteran referee Kenny Bayless draws Mayweather-Mosley assignment

By David Mayo | The Grand Rapids Press
April 29, 2010, 7:30AM

Kenny Bayless steps in between Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya after the final bell of their May 2007 fight.
The key officials all hail from Nevada, with veteran referee Kenny Bayless to serve as third man in the ring.

Bayless also was the referee when Mayweather fought Oscar De La Hoya, and for three key Mosley fights, including the 2003 no-contest result with Raul Marquez when he correctly ruled that Marquez's cuts were caused by Mosley head butts.

Bayless also worked Mosley's wins over Luis Collazo in 2007 and Fernando Vargas in their 2006 rematch. Judges are Adelaide Byrd, Robert Hoyle and Dave Moretti. Byrd and Moretti have worked two Mosley title bouts apiece. Moretti judged four of Mayweather's last seven bouts, including a cross-country trip to work the Arturo Gatti fight in 2005.

............................................................

I like this ref and I think he will do a good job with this fight.

? Mosley has as many common opponents with 49-year-old Roger Mayweather (Mauricio Aceves) as with 33-year-old Floyd Mayweather (Oscar De La Hoya). Roger Mayweather knocked out Aceves in the third round of a 1988 junior welterweight title defense. Aceves went on a nine-fight losing streak to end his career, with the eighth coming against Mosley, who knocked him out in the fourth round of a 1995 bout. :scared

fawk me Mosley is old

"He brings a lot of mouth and they just want to see what all this mouth is about, you know. I think it's making the fight real big. He does a very good job of promoting it. I'm just happy to get in there and do my thing because I think I'm the best fighter."
-- Mosley, on Mayweather.:scared

BY THE NUMBERS
.583 -- Mosley's win percentage in his last 13 fights, not including the no-contest ruling against Raul Marquez. He is 7-5 during that span.
:scared :scared

Geez Mosleys record sucks :00hour

15 -- Drug-test results supplied to the Nevada Athletic Commission by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, eight for Mosley, seven for Mayweather. Commission executive director Keith Kizer said the tests were about a 50-50 split between blood and urine samples and that he last received results about two weeks ago. :SIB

$7 million -- Mosley's purse, according to the contract filed with the Nevada Athletic Commission. Mayweather's contract had not been filed as of Wednesday.
Sounds like Mosley took a bitch slap when it came to the money end of things.

I have been thinking alot about the age issue with Mosley. Shane is 38 years old , and hasn?t fought in over a year.

I don't think there is any question that Mayweather is the best fighter in the welterweight division.

I think things are going to go really badly for Mosley in this fight. He doesn?t have the movement, the hand speed or the jab to compete with Mayweather and Shane is going to get hit alot in this fight. Pounded per pound so to speak.

It may end up being one of those sad fights in which the old fighter gets beaten to a pulp and is made to look their age. Mosley is still a good fighter but his time has long past. The only chance Mosely has in this fight is no chance.

When Mayweather fought his last fight against another old fighter, the 36-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez, Mayweather dominated Marquez like he was beating a red headed step child.

Mosley is going to be in way over his head in this fight and unable to stop Mayweather?s hand speed and defensive abilitys.

Mosley will not be able to match punches with Floyd and will constantly clinch and tie up after throwing the few shots per round he will get off.

Down goes Frazier ! Down goes Frazier !

Mayweather to win is up to -440

Money pours in on the money man Floyd.

The KO, TKO DisQ is at +480 for Floyd.

I will stay the way I am as this may easily go the distance.

And if this does go the 12 rounds, Shane is up
shit creek without a paddle.

n Mosley?s previous two fights, he had sensational knockouts against Antonio Margarito last January in 2009 and against Ricardo Mayorga in September of 2008. Margarito and Mayorga both had two things in common in those fights against Mosley; these fighters came straightforward and second, these fighters were the aggressors in those fights.
:scared
When Mosley had to be the aggressor in past fights, he has had trouble, particularly in the two fights against Vernon Forrest and in the two fights against Ronald ?Winky? Wright. The difference in those fights was both Forrest and Wright were bigger and had the longer reach, thus, keeping Mosley at the end of their jab for the entire fight.
:scared
So how will Mosley break the defensive puzzle of Mayweather? Well, Shane Mosley will have to try the same game plan everyone else has tried against Floyd Mayweather, Jr., PRESSURE!!! PRESSURE!!! PRESSURE!!! This will not be an easy task trying to deal with Mayweather?s shoulder roll defense and great countering skills.
:scared
In order for Mosley to use power to his advantage in the fight against Mayweather, he will need to use the gully, rough and dirty approach against Mayweather, smothering him, not letting him get off his shots, and roughing him up with some legal holding and hitting on the break. This could lead to Mosley catching Mayweather with some good power shots in the fight on May 1.
:0corn

Another good thing Mosley has going for him is that he can hurt you with both hands. It is possible for Mosley to catch Mayweather when he goes into that defensive shell because Mosley throws deadly punches with both hands. Mosley will need to double, maybe ever triple up on his jab when Mayweather goes into his defensive shell in hopes of landing something big on Mayweather and setting up his great left hook.

Mosley?s power will be a huge ?X Factor? in the fight on May 1, but will the pressure approach work on Mayweather? As Mayweather has stated, ?40 have tried and 40 have failed.? Can Mosley?s style and power bother Mayweather enough for him to actually fight Mosley, or will it be just another Mayweather cakewalk? The truth will be told on May 1, 2010. One thing about Shane Mosley we know for sure, if Mosley gets a fighter in serious trouble, he knows how to finish him.

Consider Mosley?s record after that supposedly transcendent win: 11-5, and a no-decision, stopped on a cut.

Among those wins were a lot of guys you probably never heard of again, like Shannan Taylor, Adrian Stone and Jose Luis Cruz. Then there were a couple of TKOs over Fernando Vargas in 2006, when The Ferocious One was already shot. The second win over De La Hoya ? closer than the first ? was also suspect, being chemically-enhanced. And the true merit of Mosley?s penultimate victory ? the TKO over Margarito ? is similarly unclear. That evening?s outstanding moment belonged not to Mosley, but to his trainer, Nazeem Richardson, who caught Margarito?s cornerman wrapping his hands with a plaster-like substance. Maragarito wasn?t so tough with regular wraps.

He made it look easy after that 2nd round scare, didn't he? Floyd looked great.

You know, I think that mini retirement was a boon to him. He's much physically stronger than he's ever been. And as Nazim said in the corner, his conditioning sets him apart.

Shane needed his PED's. :142smilie :142smilie :mj07: :mj07: He looked flat. Body was pale and soft - for him.

Still, think Pac beats Money though. That's the fight that must happen. I have my doubts, though.

Hard to know if the Pacman Vs Floyd will ever come off. I believe that Pacman has been on the juice for some time.

If the fight does go off, I will make alot of money on it as the odds will be much closer than I am used to , and I got a good idea who will win that fight.

These two have no one else to fight that means a shit .
