Investigators resumed their search for missing Illinois State University senior Olamide Adeyooye on Thursday, one week after she was last seen.

The story is getting national attention as a local university community tries to hold out hope she'll be found safely.

The Normal Police Department continues to talk to people they call 'persons of interest' in what is now a criminal investigation.

A police cruiser sat outside the girl's boarded-up off-campus apartment, just three blocks from where authorities recovered some of Adeyooye's personal articles Wednesday.

She has been missing since the night of Oct. 13.

Thursday morning, Normal Police Lieutenant Mark Kotte and Adeyooye's friend Samantha Troha spoke with Charlie Gibson on Good Morning America about what's going on. Meantime, the university is trying to maintain its day-to-day operations in the face of a tough situation for everyone.

"The usual indicators that would tell you that a student was in distress simply weren't there in this case," said ISU President Al Bowman.

Many students on the ISU campus are unclear about what's been going on with the investigation, and all kinds of rumors are swirling about what has happened to Adeyooye.

"It's just from student to student. I'm from in town, and I've heard my parents talking about it," said ISU senior Emily Kabbes.

"(I heard) that her love seat was missing from her apartment, but everything else was there," said ISU freshman Kaitie Barclay.

It can be difficult to relay concise information through newspapers and television so all students can understand what's really going on and to dispel whispers of false hope.

"Everyone is deeply concerned about this case," Bowman said.

"I guess the rumor is that she was found yesterday afternoon or something," said ISU Senior Brandon Kuglin.

"We had heard that they had found her last night," Kabbes said.

But police did not find Adeyooye on Wednesday, despite uncovering clues that have led them to call this a criminal investigation. Adeyooye's family drove around on their own Thursday looking for clues.

"It was going around by so many people I almost took it as a definite, as a fact," Kuglin said.

Investigators are focusing on finding Adeyooye's car which has also been missing since Oct. 13. It's a green 1996 Toyota corolla with Illinois license plates LBG 927 and has an ISU sticker on the center of the back window. The front passenger seat is broken and is in the recline position.

ISU's Black Student Union lead a candlelight vigil Thursday night at the Milner Library Plaza.

"You wish you could do something about it, but I guess just say prayers," Kabbes said.

I used to live 3 blocks south of Redbird Arena and have since moved to the northern end of town. I have a few friends from out of the area who have young daughters who go to Ill St. I was just telling one of my friends this year that he should talk to his daughter about safety. This is a good town and campus but girls just have to beware. The university has some plans like the buses at night only allow females on them. Every person has to sign in and show student ID to get into the dorms.

The one thing that isn't mentioned is that she lived right off of Market St. which is pretty far off campus. Johnny wager could probably tell you also that it is not that great a part of town. I have lived here since 89 and love it. I wouldn't have my kids here if it was a bad town. The longer it goes the less hope there is and I hope they find her.

just cover - you are mistaken i think because w market in bloomington is a shithole, but w market in normal is decent - a few more blacks but many college students and ( and i dont mean to be racist but we all know that very high concentration of blacks usually means a high crime rate). i used to live at the old stilts on w locust a few blocks from milner, and i delivered pizzas for a few years, and know bloomington-normal like the back of my hand - and im telling you, this is not a shit part of town, just slighlty questionable. never a place i felt threatened, unlike the westside of bloomington. but either way, ur right good community, heck of a school, and we all hate to see anything like this knockin at our door....
"all's welll that ends well" - keep this in mind and hope for better days...

Well the local news said they might have a lead in the case but not good news. I guess it is a body in Mississippi.

Johnny- that is the part of town my wife heard she lived West Market in Bloomington. I don't know how long its been since you have been here but shithole is an under statement. It has gotten alot worse in the last few years. I am glad where I am at now. We live in the Pheasant Ridge subdivision, and if the wife gets a principle job next year I would like to move to Ironwood and play golf right in the backyard.

I hope it isn't her and it just is a college girl running around with a guy, but from all the news reports she wasn't that kind of a person.

I played Ironwood once, the wind must have been blowing 25 mph that day, and I played decent shot an 85, which wasn't bad considering the wind.

Sad to say the burned body found in Mississippi was that of the Ill St missing student. The had to ID by her dental records. I hope they catch the sick fuks.
