MLB Betting News and Notes - Week #11
?Angels-Athletics Pull The Big Bats Out: The Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels are set to do battle Monday evening (10:05 PM EST) for the American League West lead. It's sure to be a closely fought series, but bettors can look to the totals for a safer bet. In the last five meetings this season, the Athletics and Angels have gone over in every one. Not one of those games have seen the teams score less than nine runs and have averaged 13 notches on the scoreboard per game.

?Reds-Dodgers Keep It Close, Totals Bettors Happy: The Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers have not been able to push past their totals in recent memory. In the last 15 clashes between the two clubs, the under has paid out 11 times (with one push). In these 15 games, that spans across the past three seasons, the teams average a combined 5.3 runs per game and has scored five or less runs nine times. The Dodgers have been one of the top under plays in the Major League Baseball away from home, registering an over/under record of 12-18-1 on the road.

?Porcello Hittable, But Unbeatable Against White Sox: The Detroit Tigers could not be sending a better pitcher to the mound Monday night. Rick Porcello has steered the Tigers to a 12-1 record in his last 13 starts against the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox have been able to make consistent contact, registering at least five hits in nine of Porcello's starts, but have rarely turned that into runs. Porcello has kept the White Sox to three runs or less in every one of those starts.

?Latos Could Rejoin Reds' Rotation This Week: The Cincinnati Reds could see their rotation get stronger this week with the return of Mat Latos. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, if Latos pitches his Triple-a start Monday and feels good he could be back in the majors this week. Latos has been dealing with a strain in his right elbow and has been rejecting surgery. Latos has yet to appear with the team this season, but carried a 14-7 record last season with a 3.16 ERA.

Sunday's MLB Roundup
-- Minnesota Twins officially signed first baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales on Sunday to a one-year, prorated $12 million contract. Morales' portion of the deal is more than $7.4 million. Since Morales is not injured and is out of options, the club cannot send him to the minor leagues.

-- The New York Mets optioned catcher Travis D'Arnaud to Triple-A Las Vegas. D'Arnoud, 25, missed more than two weeks earlier this season for post-concussion symptoms. Mets third baseman David Wright was out of the starting lineup for the first time this season, snapping his streak of 62 straight starts this year. The Mets have an off day Monday, and manager Terry Collins said he wanted to give Wright back-to-back days off.

-- San Francisco Giants center fielder Angel Pagan was out of the starting lineup, one day after hurting his right leg while sliding into home plate to score the game-tying run in the ninth inning of a 5-4 win against the Mets. After Saturday night's game, Pagan had his knee and lower leg heavily wrapped.

-- New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, who sat out May 26-28 and June 1-2 with right wrist inflammation, grounded out as a ninth-inning pinch hitter. Manager Joe Girardi said he was resting Teixeira, who will start Monday. Yankees right-hander Shawn Kelley, who threw 19 pitches in a rehab appearance Saturday for Double-A Trenton, will pitch in a minor league game Monday. He is on the disabled list.

-- Miami Marlins manager Mike Redmond said he may shuffle his rotation this week to enable right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (4-2, 3.27 ERA) to be there for the birth of his child without missing a start. If Eovaldi's wife has not given birth by Wednesday, Eovaldi may be moved up from his scheduled Friday start.

-- The Baltimore Orioles officially activated right-hander Tommy Hunter (groin) from the 15-day disabled list. He had been on the DL since May 22. In a corresponding roster move, the Orioles optioned right-hander Evan Meek, who was the losing pitcher in Friday night's game, to Triple-A Norfolk.

-- Two of the Cincinnati Reds' rehabbing stars have joined the Triple-A Louisville Bats on the road at Pawtucket this week. First baseman Joey Votto, on the disabled list with a quadriceps strain in his left knee, began his rehab assignment on Sunday, going 1-for-3. Right-hander Mat Latos is expected to join the Bats on Monday.

?Astros RH Jarred Cosart (4-5, 4.16 ERA, WHIP: 1.373) - Cosart has allowed only 16 earned runs in eight outings since being tagged for seven in one-third of an inning against Oakland on April 18, posting a 2.96 ERA in that span. He lost to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday but pitched well, giving up three runs on eight hits with a season high-tying eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 frames. Cosart went 3-2 with a 2.76 ERA in five starts last month.

?Diamondbacks RH Josh Collmenter (4-2, 3.63 ERA, WHIP: 1.164) - Collmenter closed May with three consecutive victories but gave up an early lead in a no-decision at Colorado on Wednesday. Collmenter, who yielded four runs on nine hits in five innings against the Rockies, allowed five runs over 20 1/3 frames in his final three starts last month. Three of Collmenter?s four victories have come at home despite surrendering seven homers in 40 1/3 innings at Chase Field.

Saturday MLB Trends

Saturday MLB Trends

MLB

Saturday, June 28

What trend was hot on the diamond Friday night?

Underdogs against the runline were impressive once again in Major League Baseball action Friday night.

Dogs put up a 12-4 record last night, hitting at a remarkable 75 percent.

Road dogs were even more impressive going 8-2, while home dogs went 4-2.

Underdogs are still hitting over 60 percent of the time for the season.

Dodgers' SS Hanley Ramirez, questionable Saturday

Ramirez is dealing with shoulder irritation and has missed the last four games. He underwent an MRI that revealed no serious damage and he is questionable to play in Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Blue Jays' RF Jose Bautista, questionable Saturday

Bautista has a Grade 1 hamstring strain and has missed the last five games. He questionable to play Saturday against the White Sox.

Mets' 3B David Wright, out Saturday

Wright didn't play Friday due to a shoulder injury. He will fly back to New York for an MRI and is expected to sit out the weekend against the Pirates.

Red Sox pitcher keeping Yankees at bay

The Boston Red Sox will be sending Jon Lester to the mound against the New York Yankees Saturday and under bettors should rejoice. In Lester's last five starts in New York has seen the under pay-out four times.

Lester has applied a bend, but don't break mentality giving up an average of seven hits per game at Yankee Stadium while only allowing two runs per game.

Indians pitcher terrible against good teams

The Cleveland Indians will send Josh Tomlin to the mound against the Seattle Mariners Saturday. Totals bettors take note, as in Tomlin's last five starts against a team with a winning record has seen the total get topped.

Tomlin has given up an average of six hits per game and three runs in these games, but has been chased before the sixth inning four times. The Cleveland Indians bullpen then gets abused with the games averaging 12.4 runs.

Padres pitcher could find gem against Diamondbacks

San Diego Padres' Eric Stults does not have much to be happy about this season with his 5.49 ERA and 2-10 record. However, he will be looking for a solid outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks who he has helped stay under the total in seven of his last eight starts against.

Stults allows a mere five hits and slightly over two runs per game on average against the D-Backs. Stults and the opposing pitcher has kept teams to an average of six runs per game.

Angels sending winless pitcher to the mound

Hector Santiago has not shown a lot to be confident in his starts this season. In Sintiago's nine starts this season for the Los Angeles Angels, the team has gone 1-8. In Santiago's last four starts he has given up 15 runs, an average of 3.75 runs per game.

Santiago will take to the mound versus the Kansas City Royals Saturday.

Indians RHP Masterson scratched from start

Cleveland Indians right-hander Justin Masterson will miss his scheduled start Sunday at the Seattle Mariners due to right knee soreness, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Masterson, who has struggled this season after a breakout year in 2013, said he has been dealing with knee pain since his second start of the year.

Masterson has a 5.03 ERA and has issued 50 walks in 93 innings.

The Indians will need to recall a pitcher from Triple-A Columbus to start in place of Masterson on Sunday. Left-hander T.J. House is a candidate to fill that role.

MLB Betting News and Notes - Week #17
?Peacock Cashing In For Under Backers: Houston Astros pitcher Brad Peacock has been a stud for bettors backing the Under in recent games. In the 26-year-old's last seven outings, the Under is 6-1. Houston sends Peacock to the bump when they face off against the Oakland Athletics in the Bay Area (10:05 PM EST) on Wednesday evening. BetOnline.com presently lists the Athletics as heavy -235 favorites on the moneyline with a total of 7.5.

?Dodgers Dominating Lefties, Face Liriano Wednesday: The Los Angeles Dodgers have been feasting on left-handed pitching lately. In their last nine games versus southpaws, Los Angeles is a 8-1 through Tuesday. Pittsburgh Pirates lefty Francisco Liriano will be on the mound when the Pirates host the Dodgers at PNC Park (7:05 PM EST) on Wednesday night. The Pirates are currently -135 favorites on the moneyline with a total of 7.5, per BetOnline.com.

?Athletics Agree To Coliseum Lease Extension: The Oakland Athletics will continue to make their home in O.Co Coliseum. The team reached agreement on a 10-year lease extension to remain in a facility that has experienced sewage and lighting problems recently. A's owner Lew Wolff signed off on the agreement after the Oakland City Council made several modifications last week. The Alameda County Board of Supervisors must give final approval, which is considered a formality.

The Athletics have played in the Coliseum since 1968. "I'm very pleased that this is behind us and we can now get on with our various activities," Wolff said. Both sides squabbled during lease negotiations for the past few months. There were threats that the team could move from Oakland, and concessions were made for the team to pay reduced rent. As part of the deal, Wolff agrees to continue discussions about building a new ballpark in Oakland.

?This Club Has Been A Boon For Over Bettors: If you've been backing the Over in the Philadelphia Phillies games recently, you've been making some nice profits. In Philadelphia's last eight confrontations, the Over is 7-1 (87.5%) through Tuesday. The Phils host the San Francisco Giants (7:05 PM EST) Wednesday. BetOnline currently has San Francisco as -134 favorite on the moneyline with a total of 7.5.

?This Umpire Loves High Totals: Over backers will be glad to see Paul Emmel behind the plate for Wednesday afternoon?s? meeting between the Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals at Coors Field (3:10 PM EST). In Emmel's last 10 games calling balls and strikes, the Over is a red-hot 7-1-2. The Nationals are currently -158 with a total of 10, per BetOnline.com.

?Royals Owning ChiSox In Chicago: The Kansas City Royals have struggled mightily in the past little while, but Royals backers have some hope heading into their matchup against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field (2:10 PM EST) on Wednesday afternoon. Through Tuesday, the Royals are 10-2 in their last 12 meetings (83.3%) with the White Sox in the Windy City. BetOnline.com currently lists the game as a pick 'em with a total of 7.5 for the matchup.

?Lohse, Brewers Trending Under Against Reds: When Milwaukee Brewers right-hander pitcher Kyle Lohse has faced the Cincinnati Reds recently, the Under is a scorching hot 6-0. Lohse gets the nod for the Reds against the Brew Crew at Miller Park (2:10 PM EST) Wednesday. ?Ump Trend You Need To Know: Umpire Will Little will be behind the plate for Wednesday afternoons's matchup between the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins, which means Under backers need to take note. Tuesday's MLB Roundup
-- The New York Yankees acquired third baseman Chase Headley and cash considerations from the San Diego Padres on Tuesday in exchange for infielder Yangervis Solarte and right-hander Rafael De Paula. The 30-year-old Headley is scheduled to become a free agent after the season. The Padres agreed to pay $1 million of the remaining $3.968 million on his $10.525 million contract this year.

Headley has not reached the production level he achieved two years ago when he hit 31 home runs, led the National League with 115 RBIs in 161 games, finished fifth in the league's Most Valuable Player balloting and won Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards for the Padres. This year, he has battled injuries and is batting .229 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs in 77 games. Solarte, 27, is hitting .254 with six home runs and 31 RBIs in 75 games for the Yankees. De Paula, 23, was 6-5 with a 4.15 ERA in 20 games, including 17 starts, for Class A Tampa this year.

-- The Colorado Rockies placed shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on the disabled list Tuesday with a left hip flexor strain. Tulowitzki left Saturday night?s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a cramp in his quadriceps and had missed two games since then before the team made the announcement before Tuesday night's matchup with the Washington Nationals. The 29-year-old Tulowitzki, considered a National league MVP candidate this season, is leading the NL with a .340 batting average, a .432 on-base percentage and a .603 slugging percentage. He has 21 home runs and a major league-leading 71 runs scored in 91 games this season.

-- Opening Day second baseman Darwin Barney was designated for assignment on Tuesday by the Chicago Cubs to make way for outfielder Emilio Bonifacio on the roster. The 28-year-old Barney played in 72 games for the Cubs this year and batted .230 with two homers and 16 RBIs. Bonifacio returned from the disabled list for a game with San Diego. Barney played in 141 games or more each of the past three seasons. Since joining the Cubs in 2010, he batted .246 with 16 homers and 130 RBIs while providing good defense.

-- The Cleveland Indians recalled right-hander Danny Salazar from Columbus and optioned right-hander C.C. Lee to Triple-A before Tuesday night's game against the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis. Salazar has made eight starts for the Indians this season and posted a 1-4 record with a 5.53 ERA. He was optioned May 16 to Columbus, where he posted a 3-6 record with a 4.02 ERA and two complete games in 10 starts.

-- The Oakland Athletics will continue to make their home in O.Co Coliseum. The A's have played in the Coliseum since 1968.

-- There are no plans to limit or shut down right-hander Garrett Richards, who is 14 innings shy of his 2013 mark of 145 while leading the Los Angeles Angels with an 11-2 record and 2.47 ERA in 20 starts. General manager Jerry Dipoto said skipping Richards in the final two months of the season or putting a hard cap on his innings total are not options the team is discussing. Richards failed to pitch into the seventh inning just six times in 20 starts. He is at 131 1/3 innings this season, closing in fast on his career-high of 145 in 2013.

-- The Tampa Bay Rays placed right-hander Joel Peralta (illness) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 13, and called up left-hander Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham. Peralta was bitten by a mosquito in the Dominican Republic during the All-Star break.

-- The Texas Rangers placed catcher Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list with tightness in his right groin that will require an MRI Friday in Texas. Soto had returned just three games ago from a long stint on the disabled list after knee surgery when the latest injury occurred.

-- The Philadelphia Phillies placed outfielder John Mayberry Jr. on the 15-day disabled list with left wrist inflammation and called up outfielder-first baseman Darin Ruf from Triple A. Meanwhile, left-hander Cliff Lee reported no problems after pitching Monday for the first time since returning after spending two months on the disabled list with a strained elbow.

-- San Francisco Giants outfielder Angel Pagan (back) took swings off a tee Monday, but there is still no timetable for his return. "It's a step in the right direction," manager Bruce Bochy said. First baseman Brandon Belt (concussion) is progressing slowly. He could start taking swings in a few days, but it appears unlikely he'll return from the seven-day DL when eligible on Sunday.

MLB Betting News and Notes - Week #17
?Rays' Escobar Booted After Strikeout: Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar was ejected from Wednesday night's game with the St. Louis Cardinals after arguing a called third strike in the top of the fourth inning. Escobar started to first base after taking a 3-2 pitch, but home plate umpire Dan Bellino rung him up. Escobar jumped up and down about 10 feet from the plate and then confronted Bellino, who booted him. Escobar was the second Ray to be kicked out in as many nights. Manager Joe Maddon was heaved in Tuesday night's 7-2 win by plate umpire Mark Ripperger in the third inning. Bellino leads all MLB umpires in ejections this year with six.

?Masahiro Tanaka Still Has Elbow Pain: New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday that Masahiro Tanaka, the ace of his pitching staff, is still feeling discomfort in his pitching elbow despite not having picked up a baseball since receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection 10 days ago. Speaking on ESPN New York 98.7 FM's "The Michael Kay Show," Cashman gave the following update on Tanaka: "He's improved, but he still feels it, although on a daily basis it decreases. So that's good but it's not good that he's still feeling it at this stage. So it's just day-by-day, week-by-week and we'll adjust accordingly. It's too early to call." Tanaka was diagnosed with a partially-torn ulnar collateral ligament via MRI after complaining of elbow pain following an ineffective performance against the Indians in Cleveland on July 8.

?Maybin Suspended, Padres Call Up Francoeur: San Diego Padres outfielder Cameron Mayin was suspended 25 games without pay after testing positive for an Amphetamine in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension was effective immediately, and the Padres purchased the contract of outfielder Jeff Francoeur from Triple-A El Paso. Maybin is hitting just .247 in 174 at-bats this season, appearing in 62 games. He has one home run and nine RBIs to go with three stolen bases.

Francoeur was in the starting lineup for the Padres' game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, and hit a two-run double in the first inning. The 30-year-old was released by the Cleveland Indians during the final week of spring training and signed a minor-league deal with the Padres on March 25. He was hitting .294 with 15 home runs and 60 RBIs in 98 games with El Paso. Francoeur has a .263 career batting average in parts of nine seasons in the majors.

?Nationals Put Zimmerman On DL: The Washington Nationals placed infielder/outfielder Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain, the team announced Wednesday. Zimmerman, 29, goes on the DL for the second time this season after missing 44 games with a right thumb fracture earlier in the year. He is hitting .282 with five home runs, 19 doubles and 36 RBIs. In the month of July, Zimmerman collected 21 hits in 58 at-bats (.362), posted a .418 on-base percentage and a .569 slugging percentage with eight extra-base hits (six doubles, two home runs).

The Nationals also recalled infielder Zach Walters from Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. Walters, 24, rejoins the Nationals for his second stint of the season. In 60 games at Triple-A this season, Walters is hitting .300 with a .358 on-base percentage and a .608 slugging percentage. While racking up 38 extra-base hits, Walters has hit 15 home runs with 48 RBIs.

?Yankees Put Johnson On DL: The New York Yankees placed infielder Kelly Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin, the team announced Wednesday. Johnson was removed from Tuesday night's game against the Texas Rangers after suffering the injury. Johnson is hitting .219 with six home runs and 22 RBIs in 201 at-bats this season. The Yankees also called up right-hander Chris Leroux from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and designated right-hander Bruce Billings for assignment.

?Milone Reached Out To Melvin About Trade Request: A?s manager Bob Melvin said he?s spoken with pitcher Tommy Milone, who made news Monday when it surfaced that he?s requested that Oakland trade him. It was Milone that sought Melvin out for a phone conversation, the lefty apparently wanting to clear the air and make sure his big league manager knows where he?s coming from. Milone was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on July 5 despite posting sparkling numbers leading up to his demotion, and Oakland?s big league rotation looks booked as it currently stands following the trade for starters Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel.

Fox Sports reported Monday that Milone has asked for a trade, and that the New York Yankees are one team interested in him. Milone has declined comment on the matter. ?He got a hold of me when all of this was coming out. I?m pretty sure he didn?t expect this to get the play it has,? Melvin said. ?To an extent, he?s looking out for his big league career, and he?s pitched really well for us. You don?t blame him for wanting to be in the big leagues. It doesn?t mean he doesn?t want to be here. He does wanna be here. He?s respected by his teammates, and he respects the situation going on here. But he wants to be in the big leagues, and I don?t blame him for that.? Milone was 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA over his previous 11 starts before being optioned to Sacramento.

?One Strip Club Has Quite The Retirement Gift For Derek Jeter: Who needs retirement gifts like a rocking chair and gold watch? Nothing says congratulations on a brilliant baseball career quite like freebies at a... strip club? An all-nude joint in New York City is offering Derek Jeter and the rest of the Yankees organization free lap dances Sept. 7, the same day that the team is officially honoring the captain. All Yankee employees will receive free admission and two free lap dances, the Show Palace in Queens announced. Plus, the dancers will be painted in pinstripes.

If Jeter himself were to show up, a rep tells The Huffington Post, he "gets unlimited lap dances and food and a lifetime free-entry pass to Show Palace as a thank you for his years of service as a New York Yankee." Of course, Jeter has cultivated a generally clean image throughout his tenure, so it's doubtful he'd accept. But nice to know the offer stands. We reached out to the Yankees for comment, but we aren't holding our breath for a return. Show Palace isn't the first area nudie bar to use sports for publicity, but at least the public can benefit if it chooses: All fans wearing a Jeter jersey on Sept. 7 will get free admission as well, the club said. It should be noted, however, that Show Palace already offers gratis entry via its website before 10 p.m.

#951 SAN FRANCISCO @ #952 PHILADELPHIA - 1:05 PM
?Giants RH Tim Hudson (8-6, 2.78 ERA, WHIP: 1.101) - Hudson has faced the Phillies 29 times in his career, posting an 11-9 record with a 3.72 ERA - his highest mark against any NL East opponent. He enters this matchup on the heels of a terrific start against Miami, which managed just one run in 7 1/3 innings Saturday. Hudson did not walk a batter against the Marlins, marking the third time in his last four starts that he went at least six frames without issuing a free pass.

--KEY STAT: HUDSON is 22-4 (+15.2 Units) against the money line in road games when playing against a bad team (Win Pct. 38% to 46%) in the second half of the season since 1997. (Team's Record)
The average score was HUDSON 6.2, OPPONENT 3.4.

?Phillies LH Cole Hamels (4-5, 2.83 ERA, WHIP: 1.163) - Hamels has won two straight decisions and allowed three runs or fewer in 10 consecutive starts. That said, the former World Series MVP still is trying to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season, due in large part to terrible run support. Buster Posey is 7-for-11 with four doubles and a home run against Hamels, while Michael Morse is just 4-for-18 with eight strikeouts versus the 30-year-old.

--KEY STAT: HAMELS is 9-17 (-13.6 Units) against the money line versus poor power teams - averaging 0.9 or less HR's/game over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record)
The average score was HAMELS 3.2, OPPONENT 3.3.

?Marlins RH Henderson Alvarez (6-5, 2.64 ERA, WHIP: 1.255) - Alvarez?s first start of the second half ended in the third inning Saturday when he took a comebacker off his left shin, but X-rays were negative and the Marlins have said all week they do not anticipate any problems out of the All-Star hurler. He has lost his past two starts, surrendering six runs on eight hits in five innings against the New York Mets on July 11. Alvarez gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings in his lone appearance against the Braves this season.

--KEY STAT: ALVAREZ is 11-4 (+7.9 Units) against the money line versus National League teams scoring 4.3 or less runs/game on the season this season. (Team's Record)

The average score was ALVAREZ 3.9, OPPONENT 3.4.

?Braves RH Aaron Harang (9-6, 3.36 ERA, WHIP: 1.378) - Harang?s next victory will give him double-digits for the first time since a 10-win campaign in 2012, a far cry from the 5-12 record he posted last season. He has won his past four decisions and fired six shutout innings Saturday, not factoring in the decision in a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia. Harang, who has pitched at least six innings in nine of his past 10 outings, was shelled for nine runs on 10 hits on April 30 at Miami, but has allowed three runs in 12 2/3 frames in his other two appearances against the Marlins this season.

#955 SAN DIEGO @ #956 CHICAGO CUBS - 8:05 PM
?Padres RH Tyson Ross (8-10, 2.70 ERA, WHIP: 1.171) - With his next win, Ross will triple his previous career high. The All-Star has recorded six straight quality starts but is just 2-4 over that span despite a 1.47 ERA. The 27-year-old is making his first start versus the Cubs but pitched two scoreless innings in relief against them in 2010.

?Cubs RH Edwin Jackson (5-10, 5.61 ERA, WHIP: 1.563) - Jackson has been better at home than on the road, but his 4-3 record and 5.19 ERA in nine starts at Wrigley Field are nothing to celebrate. The 30-year-old is winless in five outings since June 20 and gave up three runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision last time out versus Arizona. Jackson fell to 0-5 with a 6.94 ERA in 11 games (nine starts) against the Padres after giving up eight runs in four frames at San Diego on May 23.

He lost to the San Diego Padres in his last turn when he allowed four runs and five hits despite striking out eight in five innings. Gee is 2-1 with a 3.04 ERA in four road starts this season.

--KEY STAT: GEE is 11-2 UNDER (+9.0 Units) when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 54% to 62%) over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record)

Garza has a 1.93 ERA in two career starts against New York.

--KEY STAT: GARZA is 6-16 (-12.2 Units) against the money line versus an National League team with a team batting average of .250 or worse over the last 3 seasons. (Team's Record)

MLB Betting News and Notes - Week #18
?Sox Consider Trade For Matt Kemp: He has had debilitating ankle and shoulder injuries that have limited his play the last two seasons, is still owed roughly $118 million on a contract that runs through 2019, and has a mixed reputation as a clubhouse presence, but the Red Sox are considering making a move for Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, according to a club source. With the Sox in need of more offensive production in the outfield, the right-handed-hitting Kemp could be the major piece in a trade for Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester, especially with the Dodgers reluctant to part with top outfield prospect Joc Pederson.

Kemp has had two operations on his left shoulder since 2012 and another on his left ankle in October. He was limited to 73 games in 2013, and the Dodgers determined that the loss of mobility due to his ankle injury limits him to playing one of the corner outfield positions instead of center field. Center field was the position he played in 2010, when he finished runner-up in the National League MVP voting by hitting .324 with a .399 OBP, .586 slugging percentage, 39 home runs and 40 stolen bases. He has put up much more modest numbers this season, posting a .273/.339/.429/.768 slash line, with 8 home runs and 5 stolen bases in 10 attempts. The Dodgers already have five outfielders for three spots, with Pederson knocking on the door, so it makes sense they would consider moving Kemp.

Making a trade problematic is Kemp's contract; the Dodgers would have to be willing to eat a considerable sum for the deal to make any sense for Boston to make it. They might be willing to do so for a pitcher of Lester's magnitude, though again, with no assurances that Lester would be no more than a two-month rental, that also would seem to limit how much the Dodgers would give. The Sox would almost certainly prefer a package built around Pederson. On Saturday, Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti addressed speculation that the Dodgers have some interest in Lester.

"You know what? We may not do anything," Colletti said, according to Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com. "We've still got a club that's solid, that still has upside to it, so I think there's still more in this club. Have we won four in a row yet? I think there's still a strong run in this club as it's currently constituted. That said, we've been historically active in July and August, sometimes, and we'll continue to see what else we can do." As for the Red Sox? "It's going to be a crazy few days," Lester said.

?Holland Nears Start Of Rehab Assignment: Left-hander Derek Holland, who has been out since undergoing microfracture surgery on the left knee in January, is on the verge of beginning a 30-day minor-league injury-rehabilitation assignment. Holland rejoined the Texas Rangers on Saturday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Monday. If all goes well, he will began a rehab assignment with a start at Double-A Frisco on Wednesday night against Midland of the Oakland organization.

That would put him on course to return in late August. Before the second half began, general manager Jon Daniels said the club had considered shutting down Holland until next spring but believes he can benefit from pitching again this season. ?You start thinking about what?s most important,? Daniels said. ?With that being said, he has worked out so hard to come back. I think there is some benefit to him from a mental standpoint to see the light at the end of the tunnel.?

?Yankees Eyeing Willingham, Other Bats, In Addition To Rotation Help: The Yankees, perhaps as concerned about their offensive issues as their rotation, are looking at outfielder Josh Willingham and some other bats. The Yankees may actually prefer Willingham to Marlon Byrd or Alex Rios, perhaps partly because of Willingham's reasonable $7 million salary and status as a free agent after the season, though Byrd and Rios haven't been ruled out. Rios makes $12 million, with a $2 million buyout of a $14 million team option, and Byrd has an $8 million salary next year. Byrd's deal does not seem overly high considering his solid production the past two years, but there may be some concern about his fit in the Bronx.

While Willingham is batting .215, he has 10 homers in only 56 games and a .777 OPS. He's always showed good power despite playing in pitchers parks, such as Target Field, and before that Oakland Coliseum and Pro Player Stadium, the football stadium the Marlins played in before moving to Marlins Park. Willingham, 35, missed 41 games earlier this year because of a fractured wrist, but seems to be healthy now.

The Yankees are known to be seeking rotation help after losing four of its original five starters, but the offense has been disappointing, sparky interest in a bat. Ichiro Suzuki, 40, wasn't supposed to be playing every day, and as we know form the leaks of the Astros notes, the Yankees had been trying to trade him previously. Suzuki wasn't the choice of GM Brian Cashman, and was instead an ownership call from the start. The Yankees may have some concernes about the ability of Carlos Beltran to hold up, as well.

?Braves Look At Andrew Miller: The Braves are believed to be looking closely at lefty Andrew Miller of the Red Sox as their prime bullpen target, with some other lefties in the mix. Atlanta has identified lefty in the pen as its biggest need, with Oliver Perez, who interested the Braves in the winter, Wesley Wright, Neal Cotts, Tony Sipp and Mike Dunn are among other accomplished pen lefties believed available in trade. Miller, a free agent after the year, is having a spectacular season in Boston's pen (64 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 39 1/3 innings to go with a 2.52 ERA), and the fading Red Sox have said they are now "listening" to trade inquiries.

The Braves in their pen currently have only one left-hander, Chasen Shreve, who was called up a week ago, in their pen. Shreve replaced Luis Avilan, who was sent down. The Braves have won more regular-season games than anyone else since 2010, but have perennially adhered to a budget of $90 million to 100 million. Since they've gone "over budget" this year with the $14 million signing of Ervin Santana in spring training following elbow injuries to young starters Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy, they aren't expected to have room for even bigger moves. But Miller would be a big help.
