Wineguy,
There is no doubt that there is nothing like the Napa Valley/Sonoma Wine Tour, just unbelievable beauty !
I make my yearly visit during NASCARS Annual Race at
Infineon Raceway.
Sonoma, CA
Sonoma
I'm lucky to know people in NASCAR and Toyota, (TRD) so my race experience is a little better than others.
Anyways...
4 hours South on 101, is Paso Robles and their Vineyards
Paso Robles Wine Country
I am all too familiar with this area being that I have "Done Time" at Camp Roberts for many of our Annual Training Events and as a Training NCO for the California Military Academy (The States Officer Training Academy)
I did have time to tour the Vineyards while there and had a great time.
About 30 mins South West is San Luis Obispo, where I have done training as well, but it really is a great town.
A great place to stay, or visit is the
Madonna Inn
From there, about an hour and a half is Vandenberg AFB.
Vandenberg AFB is a Department of Defense space and missile testing base, with a mission of placing satellites into
polar orbit from the West Coast, using expendable boosters (
Pegasus,
Taurus,
Minotaur,
Atlas V and
Delta IV). Wing personnel also support the Service's
LGM-30G Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Force Development Evaluation program.
The base is named in honor of former Air Force Chief of Staff General
Hoyt S. Vandenberg.
I have traveled CA from the Mexican border to Oregon and all the way up to Washington. Back down South taking 395 and 50, stopped in many historic and interesting towns. I'm no expert on any of them, well a few... but I can answer some questions if you are on a roadie on the Left Coast :toast:
