— RIP to Padres’ owner Peter Seidler, who passed away this week at age 63. Seidler was the grandson of the late Walter O’Malley, who owned the Dodgers when they moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. Seidler was a two-time cancer survivor who was well-liked in San Diego.
San Diego had the 3rd-highest payroll in baseball this year, but went 82-80 and missed the playoffs; they’re expected to cut payroll next year and right now, they’re the only MLB team without a manager for next year.

— Browns’ QB Deshaun Watson is having shoulder surgery, is out for the year; Cleveland is starting rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson this week against the Steelers, instead of PJ Walker, which is kind of a surprise. Walker played better than DTR when Watson was hurt before.Watson has now missed 39 games the last three years, for on/off field reasons; Cleveland owes him $138M on his deal from 2024-26, with Watson moving forward with a surgically repaired shoulder. Not ideal.
