I?ve been surprised to hear a few of the ESPN crowd state that ND is overrated as I don?t think that they are getting any respect at all. They aren?t in anyone?s top 20 and the talent that they have this year is certainly top 20. Their Junior and Senior classes were 3rd and 5th rated recruiting class and this group did beat Michigan and Tennessee last year. They return every starter on the offense and while they do lose 8 starters on defense, the pass defense was the Achilles for ND and it can?t be any worse. They?ve added speed on their corners and they?ve added better coordinators. Their schedule will prevent them from making a lot of noise nationally, but based on the future lines that I?ve seen from the Michigan, Purdue and USC games, I think that there will be a lot of value in this team all year.

Pitt didn?t recruit for a running offense during Walt Harris? tenure and although Wannstedt has said that the running game will be a priority (just like Harris said). Wannstedt?s too hard-headed to adapt in the game once it starts.

I think that ND will control the lines, has more athletes in the skill positions and have a better leader at the top.

Irish +3

Home game for a MAC school against the Big 10 and the skill position players from Indiana who couldn?t get on the field on last year?s awful team have to take a new system on the road. Liked this line when it first came out and still like it at 8.

I agree with your assessment on ND. I posted something similar a few weeks back. Lee Corso predicted ND would go 0-6 out of the gate. What a friggin' idiot! He will be eating crow on Saturday like usual.

Weis said ND would be scoring a lot of points this year. Also, he mentioned B. Quinn has the talent to be a first round draft pick. We will finally get a chance to see him shine. No more bubble screens to R. McKnight all game long. They have an extremely talented offense - if they get clicking on offense watch the f*ck out.

They lose virtually their entire secondary, but the players replacing them are faster, younger and were rated higher coming out of high school. Their defense line will be a little stronger this year with V. Abimari anchoring everybody. He was the #1 rated DE coming out of high school and is an absolute freak.

With all of that said, I'm staying away this Saturday. May put something on the over. I want to see how quickly they respond to Weis and his schemes. I will be playing them more midseason.

I'll be rooting for ND on Sat. I think Weis is going to be a fantastic coach. His biggest effect on ND will be the confidence he installs into his players. Every week they will have an excellent gameplan and mindset that they will win. That is huge in CFB and ND will be back. As for the ND offense, Weis will attack what the defense gives him. That means gameday adjustments. Something I think TY lacked.

What is up with that sig? I guess Weis is also installing confidence back into ND fans. :D

USC 45 ND 23

Which is an improvement! :poke

One unit's on ND

DD,

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Irish this year. I liked Ty but was embarrassed by his coordinators and his loyalty to them killed the Irish time and time again. I get the feeling that Weis is more hands on and will be able to get a lot out of the team this year. There is a talent drop in this year's sophs and frosh so this recruiting class coming in will be HUGE for the program. Looks like he's off to a good start. Go Irish!! Beat Pitt!!

Good luck to you, too AR. Looks like we got a winner in CMU ;)

Maybe it's seeing Spurrier throw all game long that reminds me that some things never change like Minny running it up against inferior competition. Maybe it's the memory of Tulsa's run D. Maybe it's because Antonio's on it. But it's probably because I've had too much wine.

BBC,

I'm on ND +4 (got on it early at betjamaica)....let's bring this sucker in on a SU win so I can watch Mark May and Lee Corso backpeddle a little....Herbstreit was the only guy this morning giving ND any credit at all......he said 4-2 to start the year....we'll see. Good luck today!!

I'm pretty pumped up for this one. Saw the 4 points early, but thought that the line would move up. Irish will have some problems this year and it might happen tonight, but Wanny won't challenge their weaknesses on D.

Go Irish!!

Robert- Any feel for the total? I didn't look at this game too much, but when I took a glance last night, I thought the over could be a fairly solid play with two strong quarterbacks coming back. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but thought I'd see what you thought since you have a pretty good feel for the program.

No feel at all for the total. My gut says that the game will be under 28 in the first half and over 28 in the 2nd half as Pitt tries to stage a comeback and realizes that they can't run. :)

AM 1000's midday show? Are they moving to compete w/ Boers and Bernstein?

Watching Wisky on the TV right now. Once you commit 8 to the box and still can't stop a rushing attack, your halftime adjustments are pretty limited. I'll be taking a little more on the Baah-dgers as soon as I see a line.

really like ND myself bobby

any chance to grab points against a Wannstedt coached team is a bonus. Not sure how ND will fare this year, but I think they can pull a W tonight. Both teams a bit of an unknown, but if it boils down to coaching, you have a definite edge in Weiss
