It's been a nice vacation from foosball. I'm hoping this season kicks off and stays the same way last season did. Last year is over and this is my first big play of the season. I'm going out on a limb here but I'm going to say there is no way ND loses against GT. Everyone saw what ND could do last year early, and everyone saw what GT could do early last year as well. Last year is over indeed but at -7.5 the Money Line is going to be favorable. I think they will beat the spread but I know they won't lose against GT and screw there chances for national competition this early.

I will take this for $1000 ML ND....

Best of luck hope yall are with me

it is a given that notre dame is going to be very good this year. and quinn vs. ball is a definite mismatch at the qb position, primarily because ball is the anti-quinn in terms of smarts and consistency.

but you have to wonder when tenuta is going to get the credit he deserves as one of the very best defensive coaches in the country. for that reason alone, gtech stands a very good chance of being in this game until the end.

naturally, weiss is hailed as an offensive wizard and deservedly so. but the defensive mind that is on the opposing sidelines is every bit as bright as he is.

gut feeling says notre dame probably finds a way to win, but the gtech defense is going to cause some of the same problems that osu did in the fiesta bowl. the problem is that on the other side, tech has ball and not troy smith.

Very well stated Gman...we both know the analysis of this game. GT has a great defense, but when it comes down to it ND should of won the USC game last year a national contender and are returning a veteran QB as well as a hell of a RB and defense. GT just doesn't have the team that could have competed with Texas or USC last year, yes they beat Miami down the stretch but Ball was horid the first part of the season, and though I'm a Reggie fan I just don't even see it being somewhat even likely he gets it done on opening day....too much on the line for ND here and Reggie in my eyes will come out bad just like he did last season. But that is only my opinion....I agree GT will have a decent team this year

Basically what I'm saying is that its going to take a big time team to slay a giant, and from history that is the way it works in the past....I'm sure there is a stat that is very very favorable for top 3 ranked teams not losing they're first game....But screw stats this is truly what I believe from my own analysis and knowing what each team has and are capable of.

The thing I like about ND is that they play big away games historically well.

I can't see ND losing this game.

Reggie Ball 48% passing.

ND rolls them late.

GT could easily pull off the upset...and in my opinion, it wouldn't be all that big of an upset.

i agree....nd played teams last year that were down & had a very beatable defense last year. to me it's not a guarantee that they win..

but i wish you luck ....

good to see you posting again socrstud, but I cant believe you are hammering ND ML like this. I am with alot of the other cappers that think ND will win but wouldnt lay sucha heavy ML on it.

GL this season, I just thinkthere arealot better gamesthat are laying alot better chalk right now.

I knew better than to post in this thread. I'll stick with posting in old timers' threads that can actually appreciate another's point of view.

I did read what you had to say.... (i.e. "last year...last year...last year...." - but I'm just paraphrasing.) I think that you need to try to remove the Irish green-tinted glasses. While I agree with a few of your points, that doesn't mean that I draw the same conclusion that "there is no way ND loses against GT." I do know what the BS pre-season polls say, but I don't think that ND will finish in the top 5...not with that schedule. I don't think that they are a top 5 team now...and I don't think that they'll be one after the first 4 games. Can reasonable people not agree that nothing is outside the realm of possibilities? It is possible that ND opens the season 1-3.... Do I think that will happen? No, but it IS possible. ND could end up going 7-5 or worse. Do I think that they will? No, but it IS possible. Do I think that ND will be beaten by GT? No, but it IS possible.

Again, I'm sorry for posting anything in this thread. You're right. I don't know what I'm talking about, but I do know how to spell "legitimate" and "denial." :scared

good luck this year socrstud...

Nd offense is simply awesome when clicking ...and Coach weis' offense seemed to be a step ahead of everyone last year...and maybe a stpe ahead for good..but thier D was anything but great last year...and thier numbers on the road on defense were even worse...

that being said ..i understand your logic and vbeing from Boston i have seen Weis tear apart defensive schemes...

I just dont know they did enough on defense too shore up that weakness...especially on the road against a pretty good g tech team ...

good luck

Please don't forget GT allowed 38 points against "Utah" in their last outing...This defense can be broken, and 51 against Vtech.....I don't think ND gave up 51 all season last year....Weis will find a to tear apart this D, and ND has a great RB that will keep the secondary guessing from GT.... This is a big time BIG TIME NEED TO WIN for Charlie weiss, brady, and ND....If they lose automatically media jumps all over Brady's chances for heisman, and weiss's control of the team. In my opinion this year is one of the reason why Weiss took this job and took over the program...

Why isn't GT even ranked? This would be a freaking huge upset in my eyes....

that 51-7 loss to virginia tech was one of the most misleading finals of the entire year in '05.

despite racking up 51 points, vtech had a relatively mediocre 320 totals yards and averaged just 2.2 yards per rush on 44 attempts against tech's D.

* D.J. Parker 78 yd blocked FG return for TD
* Xavier Adibi 25 yd interception return for TD
* Chris Ellis 29 yd interception return

theres your game in a nutshell. to be fair, ball was horrible (11/27 with both INTS going back to the house)

as far as the utah game goes, it was no secret that tech might have been the unhappiest and unmotivated bowl team last year as they were very upset about getting shipped all the way out to san francisco. having said that, utah ripped them a new one and tech's lame effort was still alarming.

but both those games you mentioned have to be kept in proper context.

im hardly a fan of tech (or any team for that matter), and theres no doubt that ball can single-handedly lose the game for the jackets. but theres also no doubt this will be one of the best defenses and schemes that quinn/nd will face all season

I didn't mean to offend you with my mispellings or my analysis.

I just really think GT is a team that shouldn't be thought of as a team that could easily beat Notre Dame....And I'm not the only person in the world that thinks this or else....even though pre-season rankings mean nothing GT is no where to be found......Yes I am young and foolish but my ML's made me a LOT OF MONEY last year.... And This is one of those games that I just really don't think an easy victory would be in effect for GT, even at home. I look forward to the season and this game and wish you the best of luck

.. and on the topic of nd not letting up 51 last year, the 34 that ohio state dropped on them could have easily be 50 had the buckeyes not left plenty of points on the field. bucks rang up 617 yards of total offense and almost 10 yards per play. :scared

rankings mean absolutely nothing, but if you want to use that for the argument, at least be aware that tech is a fringe top 25 team in both polls and would be #29 in the AP poll.

...so, you *think* that everyone who doesn't *think* that "there's no way GT can beat ND" is out of their mind. I get it. Okay. All I was saying is that it is week 1 and NOTHING is outside the realm of possibilities.... I'm sure that your crystal ball will prevail this week. I wish you the best of luck this season.

I totally agree 100%... This will be a great test defensively and we will truly find out if ND can live up to the hype.... Vtech's, and Utah's win does show that this deffense isn't invicible though, and it is the coaches job to have his team ready for a bowl....we all know which side i'm on and I guess I'll just leave it at that....I had some time to kill so I thought it would be fun to speculate a little...

nobody in this thread said gt could easily beat notre dame.it's the other way around...by laying a dime on the moneyline you are saying that nd could easily beat gt.

you are probably right that nd will win su..but i wouldn't make that bet...but if you're set on this bet don't let anybody talk you out of it.

good luck.
