what's this, the 5th bowl game?, and already it's getting old. roughly half of Sam Houston is in the transfer portal, including their top 3 cheerleaders. near as i can tell, most of them are playing and/or cheering.
georgia southern isn't missing anyone noteworthy.
for whatever stupid reason, ncaa.com (my source for the data i use) is suddenly only showing stats for the games played since saturday. hopefully that's temporary. the other site i found doesn't have anywhere near as many statistical categories. almost zero defensive categories. ok, just found another site, and now i'm trying to piece together data from both sites. like this fucking process didn't already take long enough. here goes nothin'.
SHU relies on the ground game. they run the ball 62% of their plays. however, they are not terribly good at it. despite rushing for 190.3 yards/game (29th in the country), they only average 4.3/carry, which is 76th. luckily for them, GASO allows 5.2 yards/rush (118th).
SHU QB Watson averages 6.3 yards/att to go with 11 TDs and 8 INTs. not great. he also leads the team in carries. GASO is almost as bad against the pass as they are against the run. they allow 7.7 yards/att (98th).
GASO has a pretty feeble ground attack, only gaining 3.6 yards/rush (103rd in the country). SHU is ok against the run, giving up 3.9/carry (49th)
GASO does their damage through the air. QB French picks up 6.9 yards/att. however, SHU is excellent against the pass, allowing 5.7 yards/att (6th).
looking at SHU's schedule, they got absolutely gashed by 2 teams, UCF and Texas St. both are in the top 16 in the country for total offense. GASO doesn't present that much of a threat.
like JMU last night, SHU is looking for their first ever bowl win. i mean, it's the first year they were eligible. so huge motivational edge to the bearkats. also, like last night, SHU's defensive strength matches up well with GASO's offense.
one important note for anyone playing SHU... just be warned, their kicker is AWFUL. 30 yards and over, he has made 7 of 16. i'm hoping kicking in the dome will help him a little.
SHU (+4) 3X
SHU (+150) 2X
GASO TT under (24.5) 2 to win 2.1
