Simplified analysis:

You held a 10-1 ticket (250 for 2300)
Live line was +200-220 at half

At the half to get a return of 2300 you would have needed to put down 1100. They offered you 650. Only an idiot sells at that price. Of course they want you to sell the damn ticket back to them.

That is the exact reason why so many people lose their asses. The SMART GAMBLER collects and wins when the sportsbook offers you FREE MONEY.
Who's the idiot?

Smart gambler is an oxymoron.

Is there a tipping point where you don't take the "free money"? You have $250 invested, and the book offers you $251. Are you an idiot to not take it?

By your stance, since the bet lost, if the book offered you $1, it would have been a smart play.

That is not accurate. The stance is simple. At the moment he was offered a 150% return on his money I would have locked it in. It's really that SIMPLE. There is no other scenario that needs to be contemplated or discussed. He asked should I take the payout or let it ride. In this EXAMPLE it was VERY SMART to lock in a 150% profit and IMO anytime I can lock in a guaranteed 150% PROFIT on any investment or BET I will LOCK IT IN.

I agree that you can’t go broke taking a profit, but every bet is different. I have Giants plus 15.5 to win $289. With 4 minutes left they offered me $270. They was no way Bills cover 15.5. Why would I give up $19 cause they made an offer. My experience is the offers benefit the books and not the players.

Every bet favors the book. 👍

Just a quick chime in on the in-thread sidebar...

I think every scenario is different, and every person is different and does this stupid shit for different reasons, and I love you T, but it's a pretty awful cashout at that price at that time. Bombs said it perfectly here... "Someone who understands simple math and who does not have a bankroll under pressure would not even consider it."

If you are making +850 bets, and cashing out at bad odds, you will never have enough good positions to be profitable taking the negative equity when you are actually right.

Ok ok. Can we get a winner now ? 🙂

I’m gonna drop an h bomb if we match. Lol

Good luck tonight.
Hahaha.

I hate this game. This is my super bowl matchup. I value both teams higher than market. Just as the Browns was a banger spot, I felt the Cowboys were this week too... until I saw they had to go out west to play the Chargers off a bye. Nothing would surprise me here tonight... I think the spread is about right. Going to watch and see. Also going to play some props. That being said, I did play the game, as I think the Chargers will come out scripted beautifully (and then probably 'Charger' their way to a last play finish).

Chargers +1.5/+100/+100 3/3/3

Ceedee Lamb props will def be part of my arsenal tonight

He missed a couple of throws but had no time and under pressure entire game. Chargers secondary was awful. Played soooo soft. They got big problems. Then again, not surprising how bad their defense is given that Staley is the defensive coordinator.
