On the course!
The forum has been getting polluted, once again, with the tinfoil hat groups harping about "this and that" conspiring against our beloved pastimes.

Well, take heart friends. I have a few suggestions other than the leagues wanting their money from poor me and you by way of our illegal $20 wagers.

The nuts among us will tell you that certain games met the criteria for a "fix" again this week. Well, THEY DID! (If you choose to fall for such crap.) If you want to believe that's just they way it wen't, good for you.

Others say "Joe Public" loses all of the time. I'm here to tell you that the "public" games cover just as much as they lose. But, like any good conspiracy......you never hear about that. It doesn't make for a good story.

What makes the bookies rich around the world is not conspiring to whack us out on certain games. You see, we manage to do that all on our own, by NOT managing our money. How many guys are content with making a bet or two each weekend? ALMOST NONE OF US!!

We bet on everything! Games we like, games he likes, games on TV, games at the half, games to recoup, games to double up, props, sides, totals, and on, and on.........

Oh, and don't forget. After you get your "serious" wagers down, you make a few "silly" bets, too. You know.....just foolin' around money, so it's no big deal, right?

The teasers, parlays, ifs, wheels.......each and every bet getting a little slice taken out via the juice.

Yeah.....and you should worry about if the "fix" is in! Sounds like someone's getting their fix, alright.

So, there has to be a reason for our losing. Can't be piss poor judgment! Let's blame the other guy! Hell.....it works in every other segment of society!

Or, maybe its just the season? Baseball was beating you up? I remember the cries as if it was only four weeks ago:

"Thank god for football season! I can clean up, now!"

Yes, every new season for a degenerate gambler is like stepping into the confessional and asking forgiveness for past transgressions. "Bless me Bookie, for I have sinned......"

Re-load for $500 or more, and all will be forgiven, my son.

But.....once again, football players are starting to shit the bed, so the crying of "foul" starts. Why not? What else is new?

Let me ask you something else. Why is it that I can come here on a Thursday and read 25-70 different opinions on a shit NCAA game being played that night? If this game was being played on a Saturday, two guys might have a say about it, but because it is ON TV, and the ONLY game being played, EVERYONE not only thinks they have to wager on it, they KNOW something about it????????? Give me a fukking break! Too many of us are just BEGGING to hand our cash over to these pirates, so the bitching really needs to stop.

What about tonight? Tonight, winners and losers alike will meet symbolically around their televisions to soak up the cathode rays of MNF. Winners will try to pad the bankroll, and losers will try to bail out. It would be unthinkable, almost un-American to not wager! By night's end, some will be rejoicing, and some will be lamenting. Even sadder.....some will be crying "foul". If New England wins, "The refs have to make sure they have an easy road to the playoffs!" If the coin flip says Cincy, it will be, "See! No way a team like New England should lose to them!"

One thing is a "sure bet", though. Basketball season starts in less than a month, and guys are already starting to head for the confessional.

Good one.

Freaking television screws everything. I stayed home Friday night to watch WVU/USF. I could have went out to dinner, threw down a steak and a couple of glasses of wine and probably half a case of beer total spent probably about 70-80 with or without the misses. No but instead I stay home, why waste the money eating out, plus in the back of my mind the phones were ringing for some action. I can't pass that up. I take in 600 on USF to which I loved, but talked myself into eating that and calling more in on WVU the other way. In the end, I was cheated and I know it. The damn BCS doesn't want WVU or Big East to succeed. Had to be. Kidding, but I cost myself a few dollars on that one and didn't even get the fillet. Bastids.

Absolutely right on target and I have to confess I'm probably one of those that after a particular "bad beat" think just like you described, albeit for a day or two.

Great post and very insightful.

Which is crazier, to believe there are NO fixed games, or to believe that some are tainted?

With all the point shaving evidence, referee scandals, player scandals, etc.

Yea and these big time colleges don't PAY for the top tier athletes like Reggie Bush either, do they? Nah, that's all a farce too.

And they play these games on Monday nights, etc for all the REAL fans, because the gambling market doesn't weigh into any of this. It's those 'real' fans tuning in at 11:30 at night of a blowout game, not the guys who have the over/under.

What was I thinking? Hell, a stand up guy like Steve Mcnair would NEVER go down a criminal path......YEA, and Pete Rose never bet on Baseball either.

Yeah, if there were such a thing as fixed game, they probably would have busted an NBA official by now....or uncovered a point shaving scam in college football.

No offense YYZ, but by taking things to the opposite extreme, and not acknowledging that things have been uncovered to support the occasional fix, you seem just as absurd as those that think there is a fix on every gameday.

Just sayin'

I tried to multi quote with Agent and the above post but am apparently not computer literate enough to pull it off. Anyway, my point exactly. There are more than point shaving scams that go into illegal fixing. Most often, fixes are more of a side bet such as number of baskets made or sometimes totals. Free throw attempts and such are much more easily disguised than actual point shaving and can be readily manipulated by many others than just officials. In such a large industry that is sports gambling in itself there can be no real regulation of controlled cheating and it happens every day. Make no mistake, it is as commonplace as anything else that will line the pockets of those that are willing to use the weaknesses of human nature to their advantage. Imagine how easily one could manipulate say..field goal attempts in a quarter? Face off wins?

You can trivialize it all you want but all you have to do is look towards Las Vegas. Those huge expensive hotels weren't built on fifty fifty odds. Just sayin..........

xyz where were you when i laid out that plan on how the NBA would shake out? A magician couldn't have done that. You go on thinking the way you do and i will think the way i do. As gmozz said didn't an NBAofficial just get pinched? Was this in another lifetime when this happen? Your other quote about the public wins just as much as anyone else is laughable.
I slipped up so i guess all this stuff i have seen in my lifetime is all legit and we are to believe that every thing is on the up and up in sports. We have
1. corrupt judges
2. Corrupt cops
3. Corrupt presidents that lie us into a war
4. Corrupt teachers
But sports owners are all on the up and up along with officials(refs), and the players. This is a multi billion dollar business and when there is a lot of money involved in the great USA, there will always be some sort of corruption. I know im in the minority on this just like when that piece of shit stood on ground zero and sucked in 80 percent of the people with his con job war profiteering, oil scheme. Its kinda funny in that NBA post i got about 6 or 7 straight things right but i get one thing wrong and all the sudden everyone is an saint again.

To say there are no fixed games is less absurd than to say you know which games are fixed.

Spooge,

You just cant let a post go by without bringing up the President eh?

I'm siding with yyz on this topic 100%... and it is kind of funny to see who responded to what here... I think yyz was getting across that losing gamblers dont blame themselves for a loss... they blame "the fix".
Losing gamblers look to that silver lining... "football is coming soon, i'll win it back then" etc etc.

I don't think the original post was supposed to come across as "there is no fix anywhere in any game"

funny some of the people who came climbing out of the holes and defending the fix.
