Somewhere Cam Newton is smiling....:00hour

Cam said he didnt know what his Dad was doing. Unless it can be proven that Cam knew, what can you do?

there are things my parents do that I dont know about.......so it is possible

in this case, the kids had to know it was wrong. Just the news of that UGa WR (AJ Green??) this year and his suspension for selling a jersey should have been a clear indicator.

This penalty is harsh and frankly OSU would rather have them miss the bowl + 4 games next year. But it is along the lines of what the UGA WR served....

I think TP goes to the NFL now....and maybe some of those other 4 players will too

Stupid players...they should know better

Who knows if Cam knew or not, but it sets one hell of a precedence.

Just let the parents shop you around and if you get caught, just plead ignorance. "I didn't know". Ok, you are innocent.

Goes on everywhere all the time. Some get caught, some don't. Different penalties for everyone. Depends on how much money can be made and lost...

Did the SELL the stuff or did they TRADE the stuff. Because if it is considered their stuff, or their signature that someone wants the University does not own them. I mean I know that they got things as a "gift" but seriously they got tatoos, I just can't see the damage.

Now if they were STEALING LAPTOPS AND SELLING THEM - Hello Oregon EX QB Masolli then I see and issue. I mean honestly, if they went to a pawn shop and sold the stuff would it cause the same uproar?

What do you expect, you take a kid from a low income family and give him a ring worth a grand or a pair of pants and someone says I'll pay you for those or I'll give you free ink and they get in trouble.

I guess on the scale of things I just dont see the big issue. A coach off the performance of these kids can drag them to an Alumni function and force them to sign stuff in an attempt to get donations for the program but this is a big problem.

JMHO

I agree. Their autograph is their own. And if they were given a ring, isn't that theirs to sell? I'm sure they can sell it after they leave school.

I guess I can see stuff like shoes or any athletic equipment, b/c you could say that is theirs to use for athletic participation. But a ring? The ring is their property.

From my understanding, the athlete can not profit from anything that a regular student of the university can not profit from selling.

Example:

The avg student's autograph is not worth much if anything. Because of that, the athlete can not profit from it either.

I guess but that's a huge gray area. What if hot sorority girls have a kissing booth to raise money for their sorority?

Maybe strong frat guys hold an arm wrestling contest to make money....I don't know, just seems like a very gray area as to who owns what and who can profit and who can't...

Now say for instance, the athlete came to school with an old s-10 pickup. If he sold it for Kelly Blue Book, there would be no issue even if he was a star. But if he sold it to a booster for say $180,000 then well, there's the reason for the ruling.

I don't agree as schools make MILLIONS off of kids and the old saying, they are getting an education doesn't fit into todays society.

New rules and amendments MUST be made to the current athletic regulations.

Why? What are the college athletes going to do? Boycott? The colleges have a monopoly on the football players since they have no other options. If the player doesn't like it, don't play. There is someone else who will gladly take your scholarship.

The bottom line is the football players are getting a free education (worth $100,000+), trips to bowl games, rings, sports attire, a great networking system for future employment, etc. If they play the system correctly, they are set for life.

Woodson, yeah that definitely makes sense.

You can say all you want to about free education but a lot of them don't want it and aren't smart enough to be able to take advantage of it. You have to be realistic, this is minor league football except that the coaches and "owners" are getting paid millions.

They should either give the game back to student athletes....make it mandatory to score 1,000 on the SAT (I think its on a 2400 scale now so that would be 1500 now) to go to a division 1 college.

Or, let it be what it has become (and been for a long time now). Pay the players and don't make them go to class unless they want to and set div one up as more of a league with a playoff, etc.

You sound like youre from LA. Typical, hey let me fuck you pretty girl and if you play it "the LA way" you'll come out on top. And hey, that's the way it's been for years.

Bullshit.

You may think it is bullshit, but that is the way it is. And I don't see it changing.

Yeah, glad you didn't read into that as it wasn't directed at you. I see your points and I'm sure the NCAA figure heads see it that way to. :0008
