New York, NY (AHN) - OLN, the sports cable channel, will be changing its name to Versus starting in July.

Reuters reports that OLN will go beyond outdoor sports with all new programming.

OLN president Gavin Harvey says, "We're all about outdoor sports, and we're not only building on that but also opening it up to other competitive sports and other activities."

The Comcast station currently owns the cable rights to National Hockey League broadcasts.

Harvey adds, "This new positioning that we have allows us to be opportunistic. We want to pursue great sporting events wherever they lead us."

It's possible that OLN is interested in broadcasting Major League Baseball games, but Harvey did not comment.

OLN is the television home of field sports such as professional fishing and the Tour de France. OLN changed its name from Outdoor Life Network in July 2004.

it was a brilliant move by outdoor life network this season to pick up hockey, an entirely indoor sport.

Perhaps they are hoping for a return to the simpler days of ice hockey... eh?
