I wait four years to wager on my favorite sport.

First two of the games:

Mens 400 meter freestyle - Tae-Hwan Park +200

Mens 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay - Any Country other than USA +202

Park looked great in the morning heats and I would consider him the guy to beat. Nice price for the who I would consider to be the favorite, but this heat truely does have 8 guys in it with a chance.

France has the WR holder in the 100, is loaded in the sprints, and is a huge darkhorse in this event. Phelps traditionally isn't a bigtime relay swimmer and I don't expect him to cancel out Bernard's split for France. The fact that you get both the Aussies and the French at 2 to 1 odds is very hard to pass up here. Great value play.

Love the swimming betting! May I ask what book? The three I have accounts with either dont have olympic betting or already have taken tonight's swiming finals off the board.

Very interesting 400 free tonight. Hwam is the better sprinter; Hackett the better distance swimmer. This event is somewhere in the middle, maybe a slight edge to a sprinter.

Vanderkaay is a good swimmer for the U.S., but doubt anyone other than Hwam or Hackett will win this.

Good luck!! :weed:

Lines are from Pinny -- I'm lucky and have friends oversees who can help me out on that front.

Wish the other outs had stuff still up for tonights finals.

I was very impressed with Jensen in prelims, but think he's going 3:42.8 at best. I expect the other two to be under 3:42, they looked very smooth in prelims.

Best of luck.

Add Team USA in the womens 400 Free Relay (1/2 Unit) +375

Aussies looked poor in day one prelims, and Trickett is their ace, who stunk in the 100 fly early heats. Good value bet for what will be an ultra tight race. China at +1500 is probably even better value but my hunch says they are bronze at best.

Last one for the First night:

Katie Hoff -155 -- usually avoid the favs but this is a short price for the obvious favorite. Hope to see a WR out of her.

Park was great last night, played out perfectly for him. Too bad it didn't work out as well for Hoff. Hats off to Rice who stepped up huge in the big spot.

Relay will be interesting tonight. Grevers for USA had a monster split in the prelims and the USA relay broke the WR in qualifying. Tonight I expect three guys to get swapped out, which is a matter of opinion if that is a positive. (I like Lezak a lot but am not sure if he will outsplit Jones' 47.6 from the prelims.) On paper USA looks good, but this is a going to come down to the wire for sure with the French. France still is the value bet here but I'm comtemplating just buying back my wager and rooting hard for Team USA. At this point I do not see the Aussies being much of a player.

Reading that Jones will stay on the relay and be the fourth with Weber-Gale, Lezak and Phelps.

Sticking with my France play but rooting for USA. Head says one thing heart says another. Bad spot to be in as a bettor.

Adding Pelligrini to win the 400 tonight at -155. Looked so easy this morning, trying to pick up a quick unit.

   Not sure what happened on that one? Looked effortless in prelims then absolutely sucked in the final. Not like the other swimmers even stepped up, she just didn't come to play.

I'm getting killed in the womens meet going to stick to the guys.

Lezak just unloaded the best relay anchor I've ever seen --- unbelievable. Still unsure how France was a 2 to 1 underdog, as the obvious favorite, but very exciting to see them get run down like that.

Got killed on wagers tonight but that was one of the biggest relays in Olympic history.

Good bet, tough finish.

They were saying Reinaud tightened up, either physically or mentally.

At the end of the day Lezak just stepped up in a way no one ever has. Bernard's split was decent, but his last 5 meters did look pretty poor. Mentally tough to have that kind of lead and see someone fly up on you, but you'd think the WR holder in the 100 would hold off anyone.

Bad night for Bernard -- choke job there and Sullivan led off the Aussie relay to take his world record. That's karma for running his mouth.

Blackman.........you know more about swimming then I do...but the swimming analyst on CBC said that was one of the biggest mistakes he's ever seen in the pool. Great comeback by the US swimmer Lezak, but that French dude made a massive blunder and gave the race to the Americans. Not taking anything away from the US win, but according to the 4 dudes I am watching on TV right now, France just handed them the gold. Of course on NBC, I have not heard one guy on there saying anything about a French mistake. Funny how coverage can be different on a US network:mj07:

Come on, kickserv.

You aren't hating on your brother to the South, are you?

I just said that Gaines and the play-by-play guy said that the Frenchman tightened up. Bernard (sp) did look back at Lezak, and Bernard seemed to get tight.

Also, Lezak said that he strategically tried to ride the wave of Bernard.

Combination of both. France had a lead and had the best 100 freestyler in the world on anchor. The door should have been slammed shut and with the right race would have been. I thought Bernard went out too fast at the first 50 but again with that kind of lead a flawed race strategy is not the only thing contributing to the loss.

Lezak's split is the fastest in history by over half a second, and seriously about 1.5 seconds faster than he's ever been. I guess it's true in all sports, for someone to step up and do something magical, someone else has to choke a bit to give them the opportunity. I think that's what you saw here. One guy swam out of his mind while the other was slightly off his A game.

As for the commentary Gaines gets more annoying by the second. For someone who has held world records he comes off as an idiot at points. Personally I'm sick of the Phelp's love affair as well but swimming wouldn't be shown live here in the US if it wasn't for Michael, his dominance is doing a lot of publisize the sport.

I would say for the money that NBC has forked over for their Olympics coverage, they can say and do whatever they want.

Stephanie Rice to win the 200 IM -105....was dominant in the 400 IM, and has shown no signs of letting down. Star studded field but this is her signature event.

Hope to see a good line on Sullivan for the 100, but not sure if Bernard will get much respect from the oddsmakers. We'll see.
