My initial thoughts are unlike last year -there are quite a few teams with alot of seniors. Especially at the guard position. Its going to be interesting to see where these totals come in at. Its funny every year everybody says this team shoudnt be there or this team has to high a seed - and alot of times these rteams make a run- Things i really look for in the first round- teams that are catchin 8 or more with 4 or more seniors that play 20 minutes or more playing a team with 2 seniors or less - especially when you have experience at the guard compared to not with the team being favored. Is a team a dog with at least 3 guys that play alot that have been there against first timers. how do teams do in close games - if you know your going to have a low scoring tight game - but one team does much better in close games that is catching more than a score they are usually a play. Who will dictate tempo HUGE HUGE- lets say you have a team that averages 76 points a game playing a team that averages 69 -one tem plays uptempo with high scoring games and the other plays games in the 20s- the line comes out at 126 who do you think will dictate tempo- now add in this team is catching mor than 3.5 -usually a play. some initial thoughts will add

I remember Jerry Tarkanian telling me once that the way to go deep in the tourney and win in the NCAA is to have great guards. His goal was to recruit the best guards. And the more experienced the guards are, the better your chances.

It's a shame that he hasn't been voted in to the Hall Of Fame. There's a great documentary on HBO about the Runnin Rebels and what he did from the 70's through the 90's. He was Mr. Uptempo. But he always had great guards on his teams and that was a recipe for success. Reggie Theus, Anderson Hunt, Greg Anthony, etc etc....Even at Fresno St he recruited great guards. Rafer Alston, Chris Herron....

What teams have senior guards who are good? Washington is one I know...Uconn?

Well, I think he's not in the Hall because he fought the NCAA and won a million dollar law suit. BTW, you can bet on Nevada games now. Just sayin. I'm not gonna say he was clean because he wasn't, but let he who is without being dirty in the NCAA, cast the first stone. There are dirty dealings in every program....

Don't want to thread jack ya, so I'm more interested to know which teams have guard play that can carry them through the tourney, or even a good first round upset perhaps. I'm not privy to the teams this year. Been a little out of the loop as far as watching games and teams go....

Thanks for the reply!

Pitt for one, but they don't impress me. Always find a way to lose close ones and other team stars always shine against them. Don't want to start an arguement in THUNDERS thread and I liked TARK, but we say "Everyone does it.", the person we are defending usually has taken it to the next level and beyond. Just sayin. Good luck everyone

What do you think about Oakland vs Texas.
Personally I have Oakland winning a tight one.
Thanks

Example of team i loved before tourney, but its all about match -ups if they were playing a tem wth just a average to good d i would say your right on but texas d is top 10 - bad matchup- here for oakland- have not decided yet but leaning texas- and lack of line movement tells me i need wait to decide

Matchups Matchups Matchups. Which teams struggle against a zone? Who has good outside shooters? Who can run all day? Who likes to slow it down? All very important things to consider. Aside from top 5 teams, the rest are pretty equal. It's finding the right matchups that will get the $$$

So I guess what the question is which teams have the advantage in the tournament?
