Nearly two thousand years ago in an obscure village, a child was born of a peasant woman.

He grew up in another village where He worked as a carpenter until He was thirty.

Then for three years He became an itinerant preacher.

This man never went to college.

He never wrote a book.

He never held a public office.

He never had a family nor owned a home.

He never put His foot inside a big city nor traveled even 200 miles from His birthplace.

And though He never did any of the things that usually accompany greatness, throngs of people followed Him.

He had no credentials but Himself.

While He was still young, the tide of public opinion turned against Him.

His followers ran away.

He was turned over to His enemies and sentenced to death on a cross between two thieves.

While He was dying, His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth ? the simple coat He had worn.

His body was laid in a borrowed grave provided by a compassionate friend.

But three days later this Man arose from the dead ? living proof that He was, as He had claimed, the Savior whom God had sent, the Incarnate Son of God.

Nineteen centuries have come and gone and today the risen Lord Jesus Christ is the central figure of the human race.

On our calendars, His birth divides history into two eras.

One day of every week is set aside in remembrance of Him.

And our two most important holidays celebrate His birth and resurrection.

On church steeples around the world, His cross has become the symbol of victory over sin and death.

This one Man?s life has furnished the theme for more songs, books, poems and paintings than any other person or event in history.

Thousands of colleges, hospitals, orphanages and other institutions have been founded in honor of this One who gave His life for us.

All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the governments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned have not changed the course of history as much as this One Solitary Life.

Very Nice Buddy.
So True.

in indian culture, there is a god with an elephant head b/c his dad cut off the boy's original head and replaced it with an elephant's head

in american folklore, there is a guy who used to be a carpenter and walked on water

sadly, if you ask people why this stuff doesn't happen today, they answer angrily and say "you just don't understand" ..a nice and tidy argument to force them to avoid the real truth, this shit didn't happen

its funny, b/c if i took a group of newborn children and forcefed them since birth there was a god who lived in the sea that feasted on subway sandwiches and is living there because of our sins, and had a picture of him on a wall, and took them to church on wednesdays(b/c that is the day of prayer for the water god), they would believe it till death, and force it on their kids and subsequent generations

Bingo Gregg....Bingo:0008

And as I said above.........in human history more have died "in the name of organized religion" then any other forum of death. Not even Mother Nature can kill as many as the leaders of organized religion can. And that is saying a lot :scared

It boggles my mind that some actually believe some dude walked on water and some big boat carried every living thing on earth. And they will actually kill in the name of it....un-fucking real:scared

And I am sure we will get more scripture from buddy:facepalm:

i live a good life,

and if there really is a god, then in my death, i'd like to believe i'd be "let in" on the merits of my life, not whether i believed or not

if this is not the case, your "god" is a spiteful narcisstic egomaniac

Great discussion.

I will say this...religion (no matter which one) can be blamed for both the best things that have ever been done and the worst things that have ever been done. The worst thing in the world is a religious fanatic.

Here's another polarizing one for you.

Ronald Reagan.

Love him or hate him, he brought hope back to this Nation after nearly 2 decades of despair and the people rose back to greatness. He was the primary cause for Communism being relegated to the scrap pile of history. We could sure use some of that type of leadership now.

That is a great post. Your life should be judged on how you live it. Live a good life.

trying not be cliche or sappy...doing what inherently feels right, and winning a sportsbet or two:SIB

I doubt winning a "sports bet or two" would fall into living a good life.

How about:

Being honest
Providing the best life you can for your family
Not cheating on your wife
Helping those less fortunate than you as long as they are trying to help themselves
Teaching your children right from wrong

I could go on but winning bets doesn't fall into the cards and doing what inherently feels right is a big stretch.

i was being tongue in cheek with the sportsbets, and doing what inherently feels right to me is all of those things you listed, so we're on the same page:shrug:
