The Wildcats take on the 4-3 Portland Pilots in a consolation game of the Phil Knight Invitational. Nova is -6.5/141.5. Tip is 3:00 pm eastern.
Portland gave it their all against North Carolina before a late Tar Heel 14-3 run sealed an 8 point 89-81 win. Nova rallied to take Iowa St to OT but lost by 2 due to an untimely turnover. Cats are now 2-3.
The Pilots have a pretty balanced attack with Wood (38% from 3), Applewhite ( off the bench), Robertson (leading scorer) and Sjolund). They like to push the tempo and shoot 77% from the FT line. They, like Nova, are missing their star player due to injury.
Villanova let ISU go on a 17-1 run to start the second half. It was an incredible effort to claw back and go to OT. Same old story for the Cats: miscommunication on defense and ill advised shots in crunch time.
What Will Happen
Both clubs left it all out on the floor yesterday. My guess is defenses on both sides will be lax. Expect a lot of fouls. Both clubs shoot well from the FT line. Nova should squeak out a tough W.
