The red hot 15-6 Creighton BlueJays are in Philadelphia to battle the 12-9 Villanova Wildcats at 1:00 pm eastern in the Wells Fargo Center. Creighton has reeled off 6 straight and is now 8-2 in the Big East standings while Villanova has lost 4 of their last 5 and is 5-5 in Conference. Nova is-3/143.5.
Creighton is led by 7’1” Ryan Kalkbrenner (18.3 ppg, 8.4 rpg) and Stephen Ashworth (16.6 ppg). Super sub, Isaac Traudt has been hot lately scoring in double figures in 4 of the last 5 games. Creighton scores mostly from inside but Ashworth can hit the 3 and must be guarded out there. They don’t force many turnovers and don’t foul much. They are average rebounders. Coach McDermott can run rings around Nova’s Coach Neptune.
Villanova lost to Creighton a few weeks ago in Omaha 86-79. It was yet another game they lost in the last 5 minutes due to defensive lapses. Villanova has been off for a week and should be well prepared for this matchup. As always, rebounding and defense will make the difference. Last out, Longino had a career high in points. Creighton will struggle if they can’t double team Dixon because Longino and Poplar are scoring. If Brickus hits has patented long 3’s, Nova can take this one. I think they will.
