The 11-10 Villanova Wildcats take on the 14-7 Providence Friars at 6:00 pm eastern In Philadelphi’s Wells Fargo Center. Nova is-4.5/136.5.
The Wildcats have dropped 5 straight while the Friars just lost to UCONN (74-65) after having won 3 in a row. Villanova is on life support regarding making the NCAA. As one analyst said: ‘If they don’t win today, they may as well sit their starters until the Big East Tournament starts’.
Providence is let by Wildcat killer Devin Carter (18.8 ppg). Oduro who just scored 20 vs UCONN is their big man who will give the Cats fits. Gaines and Pierre can run hot or cold. Nonetheless, they all can play great defense. Their weakness is shooting the 3 (except for Carter) and free throws.
Nova just can’t shoot and their defense has been in disarray lately. Dixon and Bomba have been consistent scorers but that’s it. Moore has been in a funk and Armstrong is streaky.
The Oddsmakers think Villanova will rally today. I’m not so sure. If all goes to form, this should be a Friar and Under play.
