The 3-5 Villanova Wildcats are home tonight to take on the 5-6 Penn Quakers. Tip is 7:00 pm eastern. Nova is -14.5/140.5. Opening line was -12.5/138.5.
Penn is coming off of 2 OT losses. The last one vs. La Salle had Star Jordan Dingle drop in 37 points. He needed to take over as the Quakers were down 2 starters. Dingle is NBA material and he is unstoppable. Slajchert is another guard who can score (17.4 ppg/38% from 3). Martz can hit from 3 also (43%).
Nova will start Armstrong plus Whitmore should play 20 minutes. Jay Wright will be one of the announcers tonight on CBSSN. They started to look a bit better vs. Oklahoma. It did take a heroic effort by Daniels though. Defense was improved but still a long way to go.
What Will Happen
Penn plays an inside/outside offense meaning it runs through their center whose job is to distribute the ball back to the guards who typically shoot from beyond the arc. Penn has been shooting well from their and may not be able to keep it up. Defensively, they are about the same as Nova: good at times and clueless at other times.
The Wildcats will likely pressure the 4 Penn starters other than Dingle and let him get his 30 points. You have to believe Whitmore won’t be able to resist taking Dingle to the hoop. Daniels likely to regress from last game but expect another big effort from Dixon.
Big 5 games are always a wild card but this sets up to look like a solid Nova win.
