The 12-10 Villanova Wildcats are in Chicago to take on the 11-12 DePaul Blue Demons at 9:00 pm Eastern on CBSSN. Villanova is -5.5/142.
These two teams played about a month ago with Villanova winning by nearly 40 points. The Cats though have lost 5 of 6 with their last game a heartbreaking 2 point loss to Creighton. The Blue Demons are here off of home win against Seton Hall.
DePaul are good rebounders, turnover prone, don’t get to the foul line but don’t foul either. DePaul likes to shoot 3’s but also defends 3’s well. They play 9 guys with Meyer and Gunn at 12 ppg their leaders. Benson (9 ppg), a shot blocker, has been stepping up his game. Skoggman at 6’11” is their other shot blocker. Rivera is their best distance shooter at 44% from deep.
Nova has not shot the ball well in their last 2 games. They love to score from deep. Can they take what DePaul will give them which is in the paint? Dixon at 24.4 ppg should have a big game tonight as the Blue Demons don’t match up well with him. Poplar was spectacular in the 2nd half vs. Creighton. Will that carryover? Longino is another guy who should score a lot in the paint. But…can the Cats step up defensively against a motivated DePaul club who was humiliated by Nova a month ago?
It’s tough to back Villanova who normally plays down to their competition and has lost 5 of 6. I do think the offenses on both sides will flourish.
