The 9-4 Villanova Wildcats are on campus to take on the 7-6 Xavier Musketeers. Tip is 8:30 pm eastern. Nova is -8.5 / 141.5.
Neither club has played in about 10 days. Xavier arrives off of a 74-54 win over Seton Hall. Nova beat DePaul by about 40 last out.
The Musketeers have had some tough losses (4 games by 7 or less) and were more than competitive in a loss to Purdue. They are led by guard Quincy Olivari who can score from anywhere (18.2 ppg/44% from deep) and Desmond Claude (15.1 ppg). Guard Dayvion Knight is coming into his own. He’s starting to hit 3’s and scored 15 vs Seton Hall. Xavier has two 6’10” guys with Ousmane (8.4) ppg being the best. Xavier predominantly scores from inside but I suspect they will hoist up more 3’s than usual tonight.
The Cats have shot over 50% overall and from 3 in three straight halves. One at Creighton and two at DePaul. Xavier holds teams under 30% from deep.
Justin Moore is a gametime decision to play tonight. Villanova has won three straight without him though. Tonight, Eric Dixon should be able to score inside vs a few untested big men. Hart and Longino are shooting well and are likely to continue. Armstrong is improving at PG each game. Hopefully, Bamba and Burton will catch fire.
This will not be an easy game. Probably more like the Creighton battle. Nonetheless, the Cats will prevail on their home court. My pick is a 5 point teaser.
