Ravens dominate..

3 0f the 4 wild cards completed

Jets as a road dog win outright in an absolute ass whippin'

Dallas destroys Philly and the Boys cash tickets for 3/4 of America

Ravens show the Pats just how far they have slipped .Ravens win outright as a road dog..

Now can G.B. win at Ariz.

Open as a road dog the bettors have turned them into a 3 point road fav against the Cards who came within 1 play of winning the Super Bowl last season..

:0corn

NFL..NOTHING FOR LONG

in a wild one Ariz. turns away the gamblers and the Packers in OT
Installed as fav on the opening line the Cards were bet against and in a HUGE way..Closing at some books as a 3 point HOME dog the Cards surive a great comeback by Rogers and Co.

This could be another high scoring game as two top offenses battle it out. Kurt Warner had one of the best passing performances in playoff history with five touchdown passes and only four incompletions and no interceptions. Warner hopes to keep that high-powered offense going against a Saints defense that ranked No. 26 by allowing 235.6 yards per game, but opposing quarterbacks hit just 57.5 percent of their passes and had a passer rating of 68.6. The Saints faltered a little late in the regular season, but they still ranked fourth in passing yards with 272.2 yards a game and QB Drew Brees set an NFL record by completing 70.62 percent of his passes.

17</TD><TD rowSpan=2 width="90%" align=left>Last week, Ravens QB Joe Flacco threw for just 34 yards, which tied an NFL record for the fewest passing yards in a playoff win. With questions about his hip and quadriceps injuries, the Ravens relied on the rushing attack and RB Ray Rice finished with 159 yards and two touchdowns. The Colts will have to shut down the Ravens' running game early and force Flacco to beat them. The Colts will look to score quickly using a passing game that ended the regular season ranked second in the NFL. If the Colts' offensive line can perform as well as it did in the regular season, which gave up a league-low 10 sacks, QB Peyton Manning will be able to find open receivers and put points on the scoreboard.

The Cowboys ran at will against the Eagles and RB Felix Jones was unstoppable with 148 rushing yards. The Cowboys could struggle to run the ball against a Vikings defense that gave up 87.1 yards per game on the ground with defensive tackles Kevin and Pat Williams anchoring the middle. Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, who led the NFL in rushing in 2008 with 1,760 yards, finished sixth this season with 1,383 yards and a career-high and league-leading 18 touchdowns. The Vikings could feed Peterson the ball to protect Favre from an aggressive Dallas defense that sacked Donovan McNabb four times and forced an interception.

36</TD><TD rowSpan=2 width="90%" align=left>This game is going to be a passing lover's delight. With Drew Brees facing Kurt Warner, and two defenses that have trouble stopping the pass, this should feature a lot of big plays in the passing game. The key will be which team can rush the passer best -- and I think it's the Cardinals. The Saints have had problems with edge rushers at times -- see Jermon Bushrod -- and I think Arizona's pressure could be a problem, maybe not in sacks but getting Brees off his spot. The Saints ran the ball better than Arizona during the regular season, but I think Beanie Wells is a factor here in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals defense didn't play well in the second half last week against the Packers, but I think they do against Brees and that passing game. The Saints didn't play well in the final month, and a week off isn't going to fix that. The Cardinals take it in an upset.

Does that give the Ravens an edge? Some would say yes, but the Colts needed the time to heal up their speed rushers. Those two, Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney, are the key to the Colts defense. That's especially true when they are ahead. That means Peyton Manning has to make plays down the field and he will -- I look for Manny to throw three touchdown passes. The Ravens are not that good at the corners, which Manning can take advantage of in the passing game. With the lead, the Colts will turn their pass rushers loose. The Ravens can run the ball, but this is a game that will call for Joe Flacco to play big. I'm not sure he can, Baltimore doesn't keep up.

The defense was best in the NFC in terms of points allowed, yet many would peg the Vikings as having the best defense in this game. The Cowboys have run the ball well this season, and Tony Romo has been hot lately. That offense will be tough to stop, especially if Felix Jones gets a lot of touches. The Vikings played well in their last game two weeks ago, but they struggled for the most part in the month of December. The offensive line has to play well -- they have to let Adrian Peterson run and protect Brett Favre which means blocking Anthony Spencer and DeMarcus Ware. I'm not sure they can handle them. This should be a close game decided in the fourth quarter. Romo will find a way to make a play down the stretch to give the Cowboys a field goal to win it.

Philip Rivers has been on fire for the Chargers throwing it this season. The Jets will put corner Darrelle Revis on Vincent Jackson, so look for Rivers to go elsewhere. Watch for Darren Sproles to play big in the passing game. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was steady last week at Cincinnati, but this is a game he might be asked to do more if Rivers gets hot. I think that leads to a couple of turnovers the Chargers will turn into scores. You have to pass the football at this time of the year, and I'm not sure the Jets can do it well enough. Look for Rivers, Sproles and Antonio Gates to eat up that Jets defense. 4. Prediction: Ravens 23, Colts 21.

This is about karma. The football gods are going to make Indianapolis pay for spitting on history and quitting on perfection. The Ravens jump to a big lead and hold on down the stretch. Ray-ven Lewis and Ed Reed both create critical turnovers. The Ravens get their licks on Manning despite dropping eight into coverage half the game.

3. Prediction: Chargers 20, Jets 16.

This game is closer than expected thanks totally to Rex Ryan?s defense. The Chargers won?t rush for 50 yards, and their one-dimensional attack will play into the hands of cornerback Darrelle Revis, who will snag two picks. San Diego trails after three quarters and Phillip Rivers leads the Chargers to victory late.

2. Prediction: Cardinals 51, Saints 45.

That?s right. It?s a repeat of last week?s Green Bay-Arizona classic. It?s more seven-on-seven flag football. I can?t bet against Kurt Warner. He?s a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer now. He?s the best postseason quarterback we?ve ever seen, and he?s got a boatload of good receivers. Plus, New Orleans has been lousy lately.

1. Prediction: Vikings 30, Cowboys 24.

I want Favre to win. It?s that simple. He?s a great story. He makes my job easy. If he loses, Ted Thompson gets to pretend he did nothing wrong. If Favre makes it to the Super Bowl, I get to write another column ripping Thompson. Rooting against Thompson is kind of like rooting against Charlie Weis when he was head coach at Notre Dame. It?s all about the quality of my column.

NFL Playoff Trends Flip Flop

Tuesday, January 12, 2010, 12:06 PM EST [NFL]

NFC home teams had been a dreadful 2-8 ATS the past five Wild Card weekends.

If you were lucky enough to uncover that trend, you probably bet the Eagles to cover in Dallas and the Packers to win at Arizona. Wrong. Wrong.

Total bettors may have dug out the interesting nugget of betting trend wisdom that pointed to UNDERs in Wild Card Weekend (that result was good 14 times out of 20 the past five seasons). Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Both NFC East home teams covered and all four games played OVER. Such is the risk in following trends too closely as you handicap the NFL playoffs.
Divisional Playoff Odds

Along comes the Divisional Playoff Weekend and you are tempted by some compelling trends once again.

This weekend has belonged to underdogs the past six seasons, as the pups are 17-7 ATS in 24 games.

Not surprisingly, that underdog trend has translated into a 10-2 ATS run for the road teams, as rested home teams are typically chalk at this time of year.

Armed with those basic trends, is there anything specific to the teams that would bolster or dampen your enthusiasm for betting the Cardinals, Cowboys, Jets and Ravens?

Do you like the Saints to rebound from a shaky end to the season with a big effort against the Cardinals?
Beware this fact - the past 10 times Arizona has been the underdog, they have covered the spread every time! Not only are they covering, they are winning (8-2 SU).

It?s a similar dog-heavy situation in San Diego. [ Trends ]

The Jets opened as 7-point underdogs in San Diego and bettors siding with the Chargers quickly bet the number to -9. The Chargers have won 11 in a row and have shown playoff toughness the past few seasons.

But beware the Jets. They are 7-2 SU and ATS the past nine games when they have been the underdog.

Against the Chargers, the Jets are 4-1 ATS in five meetings, including winning three of four here on the West Coast.
So far, bettors are on San Diego, figuring Philip Rivers can outduel Mark Sanchez.

The other games have the Cowboys underdogs in Minnesota, losers of three of their past five games as a favorite.
When the Vikes are a small favorite of three or less, the UNDER has been a reliable play (10-3 past 13).

In Indianapolis, the Ravens come to town as 7-point underdogs. They blew out New England last weekend, but can they handle a rested Indy team that has basically had a month to prepare?
The Ravens have lost seven in a row to the Colts and are just 1-6 ATS in those games.

My biggest problem with picking next weekend?s playoff winners, especially in the NFC, is the Cowboys and Cardinals are fresh in my mind. They both looked really great on offense in their wild-card wins, while the last time I saw the Saints and the Vikings, well, neither one was playing super.

So, I?m picking the Cowboys and the Cardinals. But I?m giving the Saints a chance because I?m a Saints guy. In the AFC, I like the Chargers and the Colts.

Here?s my game-by-game look:

Jets at Chargers: First of all, there won?t be any restrictions on the Jets offense in this game. I don?t think it will matter whether they play in bad weather or good weather. I knew they would beat Cincinnati because the Bengals haven?t had a good passing attack all year. But the Jets are facing San Diego, which will be well-coached, and I?ve always believed teams that throw the ball that well tend to do a great job schematically of dictating what blitzes they will see.

This will be a totally different game for the Jets, and the only way they will have a chance against Philip Rivers is with their same formula: a great defense, control the clock and be able to run, run, run. That?s really the key. They are going to face one of the top five offensives in the NFL, and they are going to face them on the road after flying 3,000 miles.

Mark Sanchez may have to throw more than 15 passes to win this one. Of the passes he threw against the Bengals, I was more impressed with the quick slants he threw than the bootleg ones. He had guys wide open on the boots, but on the slants he had to deliver some tight passes to keep the chains moving on third-and-fours. I was very impressed by those and also his decision-making. It?s going to be a different story against the Chargers. It?s going to be a hard game for them to win.

Now, I do agree with their coach, Rex Ryan, that the Jets are a formidable opponent for anyone. It won?t be a cake walk for the Chargers. I still like them to win, but I think I?d rather be in the Jets? position than San Diego?s.

As a player, I didn?t like sitting around. I liked to play. San Diego has been sitting around and sitting around and they can say they are getting healthy and all that, but the only thing about the first-round bye is that, getting healthy. You still haven?t played in two weeks.

The Jets need to get out there and control the line scrimmage and take it to them. I don?t think of San Diego as a defensive machine, either. It?s not as if Shawne Merriman and those guys are great. This will be a very tough game; it will be a lot harder for the Jets than what they just went through.

Ravens at Colts: It?s the same thing for the Ravens as with the Jets. The Ravens love to run the Football. We?re seeing Joe Flacco do a little bit, but he?s mostly handing off to Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. To have any chance, they have to run for at least 180 yards. Now, if they can control the clock with the run, Baltimore can limit the number of opportunities for Peyton Manning. But the Ravens have to score, too. They just can?t keep it for eight-nine minutes and get three points. But I don?t see how the Ravens beat the Colts, who are so explosive on offense.

I feel better about Indy beating the Ravens than anybody next weekend. If I had to bet on any of these games and I had $100 to save my life, I?m more comfortable betting on Peyton Manning against the Ravens. No disrespect now to them, but I do think the Jets will come closer to beating the Chargers than the Ravens will against Indy.

What did I think of Peyton winning his fourth MVP? I?m not sure it meant as much to him as much it would have meant to Drew Brees, who has never gotten it. I like to spread this award around. I mean, you could give it to Peyton every year, but how could you not give it to Brees? What does he have to do to get it? What does Chris Johnson down in Tennessee have to do to get it? I always ask myself who stepped up and had incredible years. It would have been great for the NFL, because Drew is every bit as good a guy and a player as Peyton is.

Cowboys at Vikings: I am thinking Dallas will get pressure all over Brett Favre. I think they will get in his face. The Cowboys will stop the run ? I don?t think Adrian Peterson has had a 100-yard game in quite a while ? and force Favre to throw to win. As well as Dallas is playing right now, I just don?t expect the Cowboys to have a letdown ? not like Green Bay?s defense did against Arizona. I think Dallas is by far the best team right now.

I say that because New Orleans has lost three in a row and Minnesota won only one of their last four, and that was against a Giants team that had its vacation bags packed before they played. That?s a false sense of confidence for the Vikings.

Now, I do believe the Vikings will go into this game believing they can win, but Dallas is by far playing better defense right now than Minnesota did in the last month of the season. And offensively, I would say they are a step ahead of the Vikings, too.

The Cowboys have the running game going, and Tony Romo is making good decisions with the football. I have a history with Favre, and he?s proven to me that he can succeed come January time and time again. He has had such a great season at 40 years old. I am still so amazed at what he?s accomplished this season. I mean, we never would have known what a great receiver Sidney Rice was if Brett hadn?t shown up in Minnesota.

Cardinals at Saints: If the Cardinals can play at least offensively like they did against the Packers, they have a great chance against the Saints. Once again, because New Orleans has lost three straight, I just don?t have a lot of confidence in the Saints. I was totally shocked with how quickly the Cardinals without Anquan Boldin jumped out on the Packers. Early Doucet had a huge game for them picking up the slack, and they ran the ball great (156 yards) against the NFL?s best run defense. I think they doubled what Green Bay was allowing in a single game this season.

Arizona?s defense really covered the Packers a lot better in the first half than in the second half. And give Mike McCarthy credit for calling that successful onside kick when they were down 14 in the second half. It got the Packers right back into the game. I believe Minnesota can light Dallas up and New Orleans can light Arizona up ? absolutely, it can happen.

How great are Kurt Warner and Arizona? Well, I?m watching them today, and New Orleans isn?t playing this weekend. I?m going off those three lost games, and even though I believe in the Saints, they did not play well in the last five games of the season. They needed overtime to beat the Redskins and barely beat the Falcons, too. They were averaging 35.8 points in the first 13 games and then not even 17 points in the last three. They were turning it over and not being explosive.

Yes, I believe Sean Payton is very capable of coming up with the right game plan to beat the Cardinals. When the Saints were unbeaten, everything Payton called, a post route, a corner route, deep-in routes and bombs away, they were clicking. Plus, they were rushing for 145 yards a game. But in those final three, they were rushing for next to nothing and they got away from it. But can they dial it up and be scary once again? Yes, I believe they can. But right now, the Cardinals are fresh on my mind. I feel good about them, and I feel the same thing about Dallas. They looked awesome against the Eagles, and they can take this act on the road.

Cardinals-Saints Preview

By BRETT HUSTON
STATS Writer
2010-01-13 15:03:34 -
The New Orleans Saints' offense hasn't been clicking lately, but one look at the Arizona Cardinals' porous defense from wild-card weekend has to have them feeling good about their chances of rediscovering their prolific passing game.
To keep up with Arizona's air attack, they probably have to.
Kurt Warner and the Cardinals won the highest-scoring playoff game in NFL history last week to punch a ticket to the Superdome for Saturday's divisional showdown, and points should again be plentiful as Drew Brees and the Saints look to shake their late-season rust.
The defending NFC champions were underdogs in their own building going into their wild-card contest against Green Bay on Sunday, but the absence of Anquan Boldin didn't slow Warner and the Cardinals (11-6) against the conference's hottest team.
Warner staked Arizona to leads of 17-0 and 31-10 before the Packers rallied, exploding for 35 points over the final quarter and a half to force overtime after the Cardinals' Neil Rackers blew a last-second, 34-yard field goal.
Though Warner threw for 379 yards and more touchdowns (five) than incompletions (four), it was Arizona's defense that allowed it to escape. Karlos Dansby returned Aaron Rodgers' deflected fumble 17 yards for a touchdown on the third play of overtime to give the Cardinals a 51-45 victory.
"We knew how tough it was going to be on our defense with all the weapons they have offensively and how they've been playing," Warner said. "It was just one of those games where I felt great. I loved our playing. I felt like I was seeing everything well and it accumulates to 51 points."
Warner, 9-3 in the playoffs, hit Steve Breaston seven times for 125 yards and threw two touchdowns apiece to Larry Fitzgerald and Early Doucet, but spent time after the game fighting off rumors of his possible retirement.
"I don't think you ever want to stay too long, but you never want to go out before it's time," he said. "The hard part is trying to figure that out, but right now it's about another playoff game. It's about New Orleans and then we'll go from there."
The Saints (13-3) didn't put up 51 points this season, but scored 45 or more four times in the first six weeks and at least 35 three more times in starting 13-0.
With Brees being mentioned as an MVP front-runner and a perfect regular season in sight, though, New Orleans faded down the stretch. The offense was held to 17 points in home losses to Dallas and Tampa Bay, and with the NFC's top seed locked up, Brees and the starters rested in a 23-10 loss at Carolina in Week 17.
The Saints have had the NFL's No. 1 total offense in three of the four seasons since the arrival of Brees and coach Sean Payton, but have just one playoff win.
"We know how to play at a high level offensively," Brees said. "The opportunity to get guys healthy - that was huge. We've been banged up at times throughout the season."
Tight end Jeremy Shockey (toe), receiver Lance Moore (ankle) and leading rusher Pierre Thomas (ribs) were all hampered by injuries down the stretch, but each is expected to play Sunday.
Facing an Arizona defense that gave up 500 yards on two occasions this season and let the Packers rack up 403 through the air would seem to have Brees salivating, not that the four-time Pro Bowler would admit it.
"Everybody thinks this is going to be an offensive shootout," Brees said. "Obviously, I hope that we score a lot of points, but in the end, you have two defenses that play with a lot of confidence and play with a lot of pride, and I'm sure that they would have something to say about this."
New Orleans was 25th in total defense (357.8 yards per game) and 20th in points allowed (21.3), but scored eight touchdowns itself - three by safety Darren Sharper.
Another potential playmaker, rookie cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, is expected to play despite a hamstring injury.
Boldin, who hurt his left ankle and knee in the regular-season finale against Green Bay, says he feels much better this week after sitting out the wild-card game and is optimistic he'll play.
Gerald Hayes, however, may not. Arizona's middle linebacker sprained his ankle Sunday and was wearing a walking boot this week, leaving his status in doubt.
Whether Hayes plays or not, the Cardinals' defense has plenty to work on.
"It's hard to say anything positive when you give up as many yards as we did on defense, not just the cornerbacks, but everybody," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "It goes back to doing a better job of tackling."
With Arizona's defense already tired and having only five days to rest, rookie running back Beanie Wells may play a bigger role against a Saints defense that allowed an average of 166.3 yards on the ground over the last three weeks.
Wells had 91 yards on 14 carries Sunday, and the Cardinals are 7-1 when he rushes for more than 50 yards.
This is the first postseason meeting between Arizona and New Orleans. The teams last met Dec. 16, 2007, at the Superdome, with Brees going 26 for 30 for 315 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints' 31-24 win. Warner threw for 233 yards and three TDs.
