Update through 9/1

PP 45-50-5 -191.07

Ace 11-21-1 -2262.84

Ace, I don't want to give away all my secrets, but I do want to tell you that you are playing too many 2 and 3 unit games. I've only played 1 unit games so far. Slow and steady wins it!!

Slow and steady? You dont play for a couple days then you play 35 games a night, how long does it take you to cap each game? ;)

Dont worry about me Pete, I take my record in 5 pick segments and its a long way to 500 picks. I'm 10 games under .500 after 33 games youre 5 games under after 100 - its not where I wanted to be but hey what can you do. I have no doubt I can at least get back to .500 by 100 plays and my record/results will show that. Hey this is the way I handicap, not sexy not too many plays but 2-3 units on each play. Since this is a handicapping contest, why dont we let our final results speak for themselves! You keep on playing 35 a night at one unit, I'll keep on at 4-5 a night with 2-3 and let the chips fall where they may. You're doing well 1/5 of the way there.

Keep up the good work.

- Phil

good job guys.

I got a question ?

Is the winner the one with the best won/lost record or the one with the most cash after 500 plays ?

Great question Scott, I think arguments could be made for both sides and this isnt something we decided beforehand.

Arg for Record - Better handicapper

Arg for Cash - Better money manager

Unfortunately we never decided which was which and that was an oversight on our part. I guess the only thing to do is call it a draw if one of us has a better record and one has more $$$ but hopefully that wont happen.

money shot

money shot

Of course it should be money, not record. That seems obvious since baseball moneylines are a part of this. Otherwise why not take all heavy favorites to pad the W-L record. Money is all that matters in this hobby!!!!

Because heavy favorites still lose. Pete the flipside of your argument is, this is about who's the better handicapper, not the better money manager, so it should be about picking winners and the people that follow you can do what they want in terms of betting money.

Anyway, not disagreeing with you or taking a side, just playing devils advocate. Personally I think this will not be a problem as the better money usually follows the better record. We never decided this before we started which we probably should have.

Yes favorites lose, but if you take -150 and above favorites you will certainly pad your W-L record, not necessarily your money but definitely W-L. Why would you take big dogs if W-L was a part of it. Even if you make money you still lose ground on the W-L, and if they both count equally then whats the point.

Yeah I think they count equally (record/money management) but there is no way to measure it equally. Taking big favorites may pad your W-L but it could also pad your $ albeit a little at a time.

Anyway like I said I dont think this will end up being an issue. At the end of 500 picks I dont see one of us having a better record and the other having more money.

My $.02 says it should be total money amount.

It's always about the money. W-L record don't mean a thing if your losing money. Also goes to show how important money management is long/short term.

Good luck to each of you.

This should definitely be amount of money for two reasons:

1. baseball lines
2. multiple unit plays

just to chime in. this has been interesting

Yeah I agree Turf, like I said I could agree with arguments for both sides, but my gut tells me this is not going to be an issue long term.

ace, come on. You know I play lots of dogs and I think this is your way of disrupting me. It doesn't matter about winning %. Dollars is all that matters. Doing it this way basically prevents me from playing lots of dogs because no matter what my % will suffer. That's a bunch of bullshit. I've gone along with all of your rules and conditions but this one makes no sense.

OK I'm not the one that brought this up so I dont know how I could possibly be trying to disrupt you. Like I said I never disagreed with you so pipe down, $ is fine with me - all I'm saying is an argument can be made either way. Now get back to your 40 picks for tonight.
