De La Hoya by KO

Sturm is every bit the tune-up. Prognosticating a stoppage in sixth.

First you say that DLH is getting ready to fight a scrub, then you say the scrub should have won the fight?

Boxing may have gone to chit for you, but its been nothing but $$$ for me. You just have to know the sport and how it works.

I had Sturm winning the fight easy, and I stay away from playing sides in mainstream fights for just that reason. Totals are the way to go in big fights as politics and corruption don't come into play.

There is plenty of money to made on the smaller fights, and if you know boxing you can use the politics and corruption to your advantage on the bigger fights.

Olympic had DLH by decision -110 / DLH by ko, tko, or dq -110
5dimes had DLH by 12 round decision +120/ DLH inside distance EVEN

Trossi
I agree that boxing is not a perfect sport, but it has been that way for some time and right or wrong it will always be that way. If you don't like it, stay away from it.

While I don't like the corruption in boxing at all, I have learned to adjust to the politics and make my picks accordingly.

You are right when you say that boxing is manipulated, but that doesn't mean there isn't money to be made in the sport.
Look at my record for the last 12 months.

not talking about money being made box,im talking the love for the sport,it has no taste left buddy due to this crap.. sturn won this fight hands down and its really sad to take dreams away from guys who work there a$$ off for what they love.. and i shouldnt of called this guy a scrub. i only said that because names like that shouldnt cost 50 bucks to watch without being known, this should of been an HBO watch to begin with and after that screwage,it just shows people how bad boxing has become.. i mean, how many times have we seen this in just the last year and a half alone??? by the way box i follow your picks and respect your thoughts buddy...

When it comes down to the integrity of the sport, you are right. This decision cost Sturm what he rightly deserved, but when you look at it from the point of view that a Hopkins-DLH fight will be great for the sport...

Yes, it seems wrong that Sturm lost the fight but do you really think a close decision to DLH on PPV will hurt his career, especially when everyone that watched knows he won.

IMO everyone got what they wanted out of the fight, and while Sturm deserved to win (just like Oquendo deserved the decision over Byrd) the result of the bad decision is a huge fight between Hopkins and DLH that will give boxing a much needed boost in ratings and popularity.

While I worry about the integrity of my favorite sport, I worry even more about the lack of attention and ratings it receives.
If it takes a bad decision to set up a fight that will put boxing on the front page, so be it. Whatever it takes to keep my sport alive is fine with me. And as long as you figure the politics of boxing into your picks there's nothing to worry about.

With Respect,

As much as I admire the work both Boxlocks and Gardenweasel do on this forum, I have to speak out.

I read in the other thread how Europeans tend to over rate their boxers. The heavyweight title has been in Europe for a good few years now, and tonight, we see a Euro go over to Las Vegas, and completely outbox Americans pride and joy in his own backyard.

Is this what US Boxing is all about, corruption, greed, doshonesty. Of course it is, and it has been going on for years.

US BOXING.............R.I.P

:nono:

PS Boxlocks, again with respect, this is not the way to give boxing a much needed ratings boost. If you think it is, then you are kidding yourself, and you know it.

Yikes. I must concede, I didn't do my homework on this bout.

I still feel that this fight could have gone either way. Now, that it went DLH's way should not be a surprise. Manipulation, subconscious favortism...regardless, every boxing aficionado knew DLH was going to get the judges' nod.

I can't imagine there not being corruption on the Euro level...albeit I am not all that familiar with the Euro boxing scene.

Look, as BL stated, Hopkins v. DLH is what folks are interested in. Well, maybe moreso before last nite.

i hear you....but,this decision was about the hopkins/dlh extravaganza.....is it corruption?.....i guess....it`s kind of like the lakers getting every call....the nba must have the lakers win...it`s like every german middleweight getting unfair decisions until the howling was heard around the world.....now,it`s statrting to change...

we just saw markus beyer lose in germany to an absolute poser named sanavia or something....sanavia was stopped by morrade hakkar of france for his only loss....the same hakkar that was just horrible.....was embarrassed and played with by hopkins.....

yes...lennox lewis was a great heavyweight champ.....yes...imo,joe calzaghe is a very good super middleweight champ....

there have been many very good european fighters ....barry mcguigan comes to mind....

but european competition isn`t american competition....or north american competition.....on the whole....it`s just not.....

sturm is basically a one handed fighter....had had a nifty little right uppercut....but,as a middleweight,he has very little power for a strapping kid...great jab...good movement...a typical german middleweight....a boxer....nothing wrong with that....

this was as much about dlh being absolutely foolish fighting as a middleweight....as much as it is about sturm being a world beater...

credit to sturm...he won....we all saw that....

my main point is,that dlh is gonna get killed if he steps in with hopkins ......or jermain taylor....the truly elite middleweights...

GW,

A very good comeback, and I hear what you're saying.

You are right in that Sturm is a bit one dimentional, but that was enough to totally outclass the biggest ticket seller in American boxing. His ability to pick off De La Hoya with the use of his jab, meant he totally outboxed him. It was obvious from the start that De La Hoya is out of his depth at this weight, but from a techanical point of view, this was men against boys stuff (think Lennox vs Tua), and you are right, I shudder to think what Hopkins will to to your main man.

What I disagree with is how easy Americans seem to accept decision like this. True, we all kind of expect them ,but does that mean it is right??? I think not, and somebody who has trained for months should never be subjected to what Sturm had to endure last night.

i can`t argue your points...i agree.....imo,a judge had to make a concerted effort to give dlh that decision....i don`t think i`ve ever seen dlh look so discouraged....he obviously felt he lost....

i`m sure we`ll see more of sturm....even though on paper it`s an "l".....it`s a huge win career-wise.....

the kid will get an opportunity to make some bread now.....i`m glad for him...i understand he`s from humble beginnings...
