So I ended up buying a bag of Victor brand dog food from Adam's Feed Store here in Arlington. It was recommended by the breeder.

The poor little guy had a few bouts of loose stool. I hope it's just the stress of leaving the family. He's actually lucky because we have him inside our house. His mom and 6 siblings are roughing it tonight in 20 degree temperature.

Loose stool could be because of the change in food. Was this food the same food the breeder was feeding the pup? If it was a change from one food to the one you have now, that could be giving him loose stool. You shouldn't do a straight change over, it needs to be a gradual change.

I haven't opened the new bag yet. I fed him what the breeder gave me to take home from this morning. No change of diet. And there won't be because what I bought is the exact same food the breeder is using.

The little guy is sound asleep right now.

My girls eat this stuff. I think airportis recommended this to me. They like it.

My wife also makes them some combination of chicken, pumpkin, and various veggies.

They do get McDonalds and other human treats every once in awhile.

They have it at Pet Haven about 2 miles from me, not that it really helps you, but I'm in Arlington all the time. I could pick you up some if you really want it. Acana and Avoderm are good brands as well and available with online free delivery.

One thing I will say is check the calcium level on Victors, anything over 1.5% is going to be detrimental especially to a shepherd and may lead to problems.

The loose stool is most likely stress.

If you have indoor dogs, do yourself a favour and next time your in home depot, pick up over of those 8" yellow plastic wallpaper smoothing tools. They're super cheap and are the best in cleaning up after a puppy during training.
Anyway, congrats on the pup. Lots of positive reinforcement and he'll be trained in no time.

Hope this helps,
FDC

Thanks, Old School.

Closest is 20 miles.

Cryboy,

Check out chewy.com

Good prices and they deliver quite fast. They also have a loyalty program you can ask them about. Most of these brands that sell good foods have a loyalty program where you get your 10th bag or something free. Don't miss that deal.

Jack posted the food I use, it is great. The amount the dog needs is not cups and cups and Cavalier gets about 1 cup per day total. Obviously a smaller dog but the food lays for a while.

I order and it's at my door in 2 days.

I am putting my order in at that site also. They sell the Pure Vita we buy for our dog for 15.00 less than at our store, and it's delivered free. Sheesh! I do online for everything else and just didn't think about dog food. I am going to get the Six Fish, because looking at the ingredients, 85% is purely fish. That is crazy! I can't tell by ours what percentage is what, but I know it is not meal or other crap fillers. Thanks for the heads up Jack.

You will get blasted with emails from them all the time but I don't mind. I guess you can unsubscribe.
