I don't see it happening...mayweather wouldn't take the fight if he wasn't sure of a victory. Yes, anything can happen in boxing, but will Floyds "0" go on 9/14?...Not this time, maybe in 2016

Really good article by Jay Caspian Kang on Grantland

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9638795/canelo-alvarez-search-next-oscar-de-la-hoya

Very interesting stuff on Canelo there

Part of me is thinking this is a rare opportunity to get on the Mayweather train cheap

well, cheaper than usual I guess b/c -270 is still crazy

Doesn't dampen my excitement for the fight, Canelo still has great power and fast hands to give Mayweather some questions

I want to bet on the draw, but it doesn't look like heritage sports will offer it

I have to take the red head then

Im now leaning that way myself. Alvarez has deceptively fast handspeed that you need to see live in person to understand. Its not as noticeable watching from you're living room. His punches are sharp and each one is thrown with meaning. Althpough he's only 23 his patience and poise is that of a veteran. Stamina issues? Yes, he has some, but that won't come into play until late in the fight. By that time Alvarezs damage will already be done. Floyd won't be able to capitalize because he will be hurting from all the shots he's taken to the arms, shoulders and body. Alvarez in a NATURAL (this can not be emphasized enough) jr middle weight with fast hand and one punch KO power. In his last fight against trout, trout tipped the scales at 172 on fight night. 3 more pounds and that's the lightjeavyweight division!!! If mayweather stepped in the ring with trout, that guy would do a number on May. The 152 weightlimit set for the fight will slightly hurt alvarez, but he will be able to deal with it at age 23. If he was 33-34 trying to sweat and extra pound or two? That's a different story.

Floyd made this fight happen ASAP. Why? because two or three fights from now Akvarez is an absolute beast and fans would begin to beat the drums as they did with pac and we all know what happened there. Floyd didn't want to go through that again. He's taking on Alvarez now in hopes he's still a little too green. I think Floyd missed his calling tho. He should have taken alvarez after the mosley fight. At that point he was still too green. Alvarez is at the point in his career where ever fight he just gets better. He was better vs lopez after mosley, he was better vs trout after lopez and he will be better against Floyd Saturday night

floyd carries his opponents at times

he can shut out most guys out but he knows if the opponent has success, it makes him look good if he is challenged

when I started really thinking about this fight, what came to mind is why they would only fight just once...

this fight generates how much in total revenue? 200-300 million across the world? multiply that if there are multiple fights

will bet draw and canelo

to set up a trilogy

no matter the outcome a rematch is guaranteed.

I know what you mean about Floyd. he's done it for years. letting his opponent get just close enough to A: make his opponent look good and B: make the public he's in for a fight all the while hes in complete control.

Well if anything, I don't think Canelo is a natural jr middleweight, he struggles to make that weight and most likely this will be one of his last fights at that weight. I wish Canelo was ready but I don't think he is yet and stamina may factor in more than you think. JMO.

I guess we will see :toast:

But I don't think stamina will play that much of a role in this fight. Which ever fighter employs their style best will be the determining factor. I give Floyd much respect and credit for taking this fight than any other for the past 11 yrs. Alvarez is the REAL champ of his division not one made of just fame and fortune.

Yeah I agree with that as in he is the real champion. The media here in Mexico tends to blow things out of proportion but yeah he is a legitimate champion, just not what they make him to be here.

I find it odd that one of the best fights in the last years is getting so little attention here at madjacks.

Oh and good luck with your bet, I wouldn't be taking Mayweather at the odds you're probably getting, but I'm getting him at -170 and Canelo at +230ish is good value IMO.

Good luck to you as well :0008

Did you watch the weigh-in? Canelo punked him in front of everyone refusing to hold the belt with Floyd. It was the first time I've ever seen mayweather confused :mj07:

Yeah and I thought Canelo looked better than what I thought he would. He lookeed big and tonight he's gonna go to 170 lbs, let's just hope that doesn't make him too slow.
