I don't bounce as well as I used to

Where in the Commune of Kali do you live Glenn?

Oh I don't live there anymore. But when I was there, I spent most of my time in San Luis Obispo (college town about 75 miles north of Santa Barbara). Also lived in Santa Maria for a couple of years and, unfortunately, Bakersfield for about 6 months. I'm in the Seattle area now. You still in CA?

Yeah, I know where Indio is. I have an aunt and uncle who live in Palm Desert. That's pretty close by, no?

That's funny you've been to SLO. I never know if people will be familiar with it or not. I'm always amazed at how many Cal Poly SLO bumper stickers I see up here in the northwest. I've even met a couple of people up here who went to SLO High School at the same time as me, although I never knew them when we were in school.

:142smilie Well here's the thing -- if you're someone who has to live in a hot weather climate, Seattle probably isn't the place for you. However, the rain thing is kind of overblown. It rains often here, but very rarely rains hard (if that makes any sense).

And the summers here are spectacular. The downside is that this place gets overrun with tourists in the summer because the weather is always in the 70's and 80's. If you enjoy outdoor sports (skiing, snowboarding, hunting, fishing, hiking, etc.) this is one of the best places to live, IMO. I should also add that I'm a person who prefers the fall over the summer, so that probably helps. The only cities in CA I've enjoyed as much as Seattle are Santa Barbara and SF. And the Monterey Peninsula is pretty nice, too.

I just realized I wrote a novel... my bad :scared

If only novels were so short.

My daughter who lives in Oregon, visited Seattle this spring and she wants to go to UW. Funny thing is though, she complains about the weather in OR all the time  and likes the heat here. But she has never experienced a stretch of 10+ days of over 115 and some of those days over 122. Looking outside is exhausting

Yeah, there's a good chance the weather here is similar to the weather she gets in Oregon. Then again, if she lives in Central or Eastern Oregon then the weather is probably warmer there than here in Seattle. And I hear ya about the heat. I was actually born in AZ and still have relatives there. I just can't do heat like that.

I'm definitely biased about UW because I went there, but I think she would like it. It was definitely a great experience for me. If you have any questions, or if she has questions that she wants to pass on, feel free to get my e-mail from Jack to pick my brain. I'm happy to help out if I can.

Alright, I'm heading out for the evening. Talk to ya later!

Sorry Boilermaker, I got to rambling and, inadvertently, :mj22:. At any rate, I know someone who went to the Mark Twain Museum and really liked it. That is, if you're into that kind of thing. I know I would like it, but I'm kind of a dork that way.

Enjoy the vaykay!

My appologies as well.

Best steakhouse in Reno is in Sparks, at the Nugget. Avoid 4th street. Va City is a blast. Bring a jacket.

unseasonably cool and rainy here in Western Oregon now!

I used to party hardy with the crowds in Isla Vista--the student getto next to UCSB.

Smurphy went to Cal Poly Slo, he in SB now...

Twain's newspaper reporting from Nevada one of his best, outside of his stuff from Hawaii.

If you into classic cars, don't forget the Harrah's car museum in Reno!

Mark Twain on the Chinamen in Nevada:

Of course there was a large Chinese population in Virginia City. It is the case with every town and city on the Pacific coast. They are a harmless race when white men either let them alone or treat them no worse than dogs; in fact, they are almost entirely harmless anyhow, for they seldom think of resenting the vilest insults or the cruelest injuries. They are quiet, peaceable, tractable, free from drunkenness, and they are as industrious as the day is long....and well treated by the upper classes, all over the Pacific coast. No Californian gentleman or lady ever abuses or oppresses a Chinaman, under any circumstances, an explanation that seems to be much needed in the East. Only the scum of the population do it, they and their children; they, and, naturally and consistently, the policemen and politicians, likewise, for these are the dust-licking pimps and slaves of the scum, there as well as elsewhere in America.
