Buttigieg neglected it, huh? (You mean the man who actually served this country, instead of making up "bone spurs"?) But I digress. How about the administration that decided safety features for trains were too expensive? CAN YOU FUCKING GUESS WHICH ADMINISTRATION THAT WAS???
Among the biggest relevant regulatory rollbacks Trump has conveniently remained mum over is the 2018
scrapping of a 2015 Obama-era rule requiring advanced braking technology on trains transporting particularly hazardous materials. That rule would have
required compliance by certain trains by 2021 and others by 2023, but as
Fortune reported at the time, Trump’s Department of Transportation decided that “the cost of installing these more sophisticated brakes outweigh[ed] the benefit.”
The other rules scrapped by the 45th president were for recurring safety audits of railroads and the requirement of having at least two crew members aboard freight trains.
I mean, sure, Fortune is definitely a huge liberal rag. Oh, and this from another liberal rag...
As Bloomberg notes, the Obama mandate, which was introduced along with a bunch of other new safety rules, would have forced trains to swap out what the then head of the Federal Railroad Administration likened to a “Civil War–era braking system.”
We're stuck in a cycle... Democrats at least fucking TRY to fix shit, make railroads safer... make drinking water safer... etc, etc. Then the Republicans fuck everything up. "Let's deregulate everything!! Let the market decide!!! Tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy!!!" And then when they get voted out and everything goes to shit because of what they did, they have the nerve to blame the Democrats.
God damn, the fucking CONSISTENT ignorance is tiring.
Man, I'm so sorry. Obviously Pete Buttigieg (again, the man who served in the US Military instead of dodging the draft. Doesn't service to the country mean anything to Republicans any more?) should personally inspect every inch of rail track in this country. Otherwise, he's neglecting it all.
