I'm playing the U.S. small, due to the length of the course, the psychological strength (that I perceive) in the U.S. rookies, and the lackluster performance of a couple of the top Euro players including injury concerns (Westwood, no Casey on the squad). While I certainly consider the Euros to be a superior squad on paper, I think there is plenty of value in the Americans, especially with so many of their rookies playing well and seemingly mentally tough guys.
U.S. to win for 1 unit.
Here's a betting angle article from another site that has some good info:
Ryder Cup: What bettors need to know
By DAVID PAYNE
Team USA has one player with a winning record in Ryder Cup play. Team Europe has four.
Team Europe has four of the five top putters statistically in the field. Team USA has two of the worst drivers in terms of accuracy in the field.
Team Europe has won five of the last six Ryder Cups it has hosted and three of the last four overall.
The Irish sportsbook Paddy Power is so convinced Team Europe will roll, it paid off any bets on the Europeans a week before the tournament teed off.
The American betting public apparently agrees.
?We?re seeing a lot of support for Europe,? said Jeff Sherman, Las Vegas? top golf oddsmaker and assistant manager of the race and sportsbook at the Hilton.
Team Europe opened up at -1/2 (-150). Sherman has since pushed it up to -165, and now says the value may be with the Americans.
?When I look up and down the lineups, I don?t see much of a discrepancy to warrant the price other than where they?re playing,? Sherman explained. ?To me, to lay a half and a price like [-165] is steep. Really, this event could be a pick ?em.?
************* agrees.
?A few short months ago, the Europeans were heavier favorites but the injury to Lee Westwood and the omission of Paul Casey has really cut down on any advantage,? said Fargo, who remains puzzled how Captain Colin Montgomerie left Casey, the ninth-ranked player in the world, off his roster. ?I found some good numbers for USA at +170 and +175 so I think the value is there.?
THE MOST IMPORTANT STAT
?Putting is the biggest factor in the Ryder Cup because it is the biggest factor in match play. Stroke play you have to worry about every shot because every shot counts toward your score. In match play, all it takes is one missed putt or one made putt to lose or win a hole respectively. If a player is putting well, they are extremely tough to beat and the vice versa.? ? Covers Expert Matt Fargo.
Top five putters in the Ryder Cup: Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, Miguel Angel Jiminez, Martin Kaymer and Steve Stricker.
The Course
The Twenty Ten Course at The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales was specifically designed to host the 2010 Ryder Cup. It?s a long Par 71 setup, stretching 7,439 yards.
Water is in play on nine holes.
The forecast calls for light rains and temperatures in the 60s.
Team USA Breakdown
WHO'S HOT?
Matt Kuchar: No one has it going more than the smiley Kuchar. He has the lowest scoring average of anyone in field and has a Tour-best 31 Top 10s.
Dustin Johnson: His overall game gets overshadowed by his length. His length gives him the kind of confidence that pays dividends in the Ryder Cup.
WHO'S NOT?
Phil Mickelson: With all the focus on Tiger?s wayward tee shots, Phil has gotten a bit of a pass. Mickelson?s 52.66 percent driving accuracy is by far the worst in the field.
Jeff Overton: He has not played well since Stuart Appleby fired a final-round 59 to beat him at the Greenbriar Classic in early August. In his last three tournaments, he?s missed a cut and finished at +10 and +11.

Martin Kaymer: He capped off the most consistent year worldwide by winning the PGA Championship. He followed that up with his third win of the season at the KLM Open in September.
