I find it extremely humorous that Scott calls me out for not doing my homework on this fight when all the information he posted does nothing but contradict his play...

I don't think peter was exposed by mccline, the shots peter took from klitschko broke his chin. the peter in with kiitschko wouldn't have been knocked down by the much less powerful mccline.

and I think maskaev hits harder than mccline, doesn't tire as badly and is a better boxer, a upset isn't out of the question, IF oleg's back is truly alright.

Exactly what I was trying to get BOX to understand. He has no information on if the guys back is healed and he will be 100%.

I just find it hard to make that play.

The over should cash like a dance in the park.

That BOX sure gets uppity

Interestingly, over 7.5 is +120 at some books, while under 6.5 is +120 at some books.

That's a nail-biting 3 minutes.

This is going to be a tough fight. I can see knock downs happening in the under 7.5 but both fighters have good stamina and I think they will get up and survive until the later rounds.

Peters looks to be in shape.

Peter?s unimpressive victory over the unheralded Jameel McCline shocked many; Peter even visited the canvas three times en route to victory. Somewhere out there, the ?Nigerian Nightmare? should be thankful that the WBC kept him away from a Top Ten contender, as a courtesy to its newly-appointed champion.

I have a simple explanation for his performance: Sam Peter just isn?t that good.

I?m no recent critic. Since the early days, the fans lost no time in declaring him heir apparent to the heavyweight title. Along the way, they praised Peter for skills he never had, applauded him for improvements he never made, and let him fight lesser opponents without criticism.

Peter?s got a great jab, you say? I haven?t seen it. Vast improvement? Please ? all he did was lose some pounds he shouldn?t have had in the first place. He?ll gain them back. And hard-hitting? I ask you, when was Peter?s last knockout?

After losing to Klitschko (despite some great rabbit-punching), he decisioned Robert Hawkins and knocked out Julius Long (14-7). A close decision over James Toney followed, then a better one.

So where?s the hate for Peter? He?s been not knocking people out for two years now. And you want a boring heavyweight bout ? check out Peter?s 2004 stinker against Jovo Pudar. It felt like watching ?Punch-Out??s King Hippo fight his reflection.:00hour :00hour

Maskaev likewise received no accolades for his underdog victory over Hasim Rahman, an accomplishment that eluded the (then) highly-regarded James Toney. In fact, the boxing media had been covering Maskaev-Peter as though Maskaev should somehow feel guilty for holding the title.

I can?t tell you how many times I read nonsense about how Peter was a ?stylistic nightmare? to Maskaev, although the writers inevitably never explain the finer points of the Sweet Science. Just the crude elementary of Peter?s rumored power colliding with Maskaev?s supposedly perpetually-exposed chin.

But why the assumptions? Maskaev may be slow, but he?s a good boxer, and certainly not stupid enough to stand motionless with his guard down. And unlike McCline, Maskaev?s right hand is known for its power. Now that Peter?s chin has been exposed, one must wonder what a solid shot from ?The Big O? could do.

Remember this: Names don?t matter in the ring. Neither does reputation, TV contracts or magazine endorsements.

BOX

I think you did not understand me once again.

Oleg has the bad back, and I do not think he will have suffient power to knock Peter out. And
since Peter is pretty much overrated, I see them waltzing past 7.5 .

I thank you for defining me as a conventional gambler in your thread. I think I am only conventional in boxing.

Thats why people always bash me in my football plays. And I grin when I win.

BOX - Just a side note, if the over in this fight loses , I swear I will find some way to blame you.

PS - I would also be willing to wager a dollar to a doughnut that you have a huge play following me on the over 7.5 rounds and your just keeping it to yourself.

Glad to be of service :00hour

The oft-delayed fight however hit yet another snag last Thursday when the champion returned from his running exercises complaining of an injured back. After visiting doctors Maskaev, 34-5, 26 KO's, was deemed incapable of defending his portion of the heavyweight championship. Due to three herniated discs and two bulging discs in his back Maskaev will likely not be able to fight at all until the first quarter of 2008 (over a year after his last win, a lopsided unanimous decision over the nondescript Peter Okhello).

On the other hand, Peter, 28-1, 22 KO's has not fought at all since his repeat win over James Toney in January.

Give him the time to recuperate. If it looks like he's going to be out longer than give Peter an interim title," Kesch said. "But give Oleg a chance."

In the meantime, Maskaev has since left his training camp in the Poconos, Pennsylvania to return to his home in West Sacramento, California. He started physical therapy 8:30 AM in New York on Wednesday and will continue to do so in California. Maskaev will meet with a physical therapist once a week while also completing exercises at home. If all goes well the 38-year-old Maskaev should be able to resume normal boxing training methods in four to six weeks.

...........................................................

My point is that you do not get 3 bulging disks and herniations from doing roadwork.
And you do not resolve this type of back problems with physical therapy.

Something is fishy .

I smell money and it smells green !

Weigh In

Oleg Maskaev and Sam Peter weighed in today in Cancun, Mexico in advance of their WBC heavyweight title clash on Saturday. Maskaev's weight of 243 lbs. was just 1/4 pound from his career high and five pounds more than he weighed when he defeated Hasim Rahman for the title in 2006.

Peter's weight of 250 lbs. was the same as he weighed for his previous fight against Jameel McCline.

The fight will be televised live in the United States in an HBO World Championship Boxing doubleheader (9:30 ET/6:30 p.m. PT) that also includes undefeated WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight champion Juan 'Baby Bull' Diaz taking on IBF No. 1-ranked mandatory challenger Nate 'Galaxxy Warrior' Campbell.
