Game: Boston at Minnesota (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Minnesota +105 (moneyline)

Not too often do you get a spring training game with a home dog, but such is life with the World Champion Boston Red Sox. The Twins will start Bonser, while the Sox offer Matsuzaka. Early spring is typically dominated by home teams as most teams don't bring their full compliment of veterans on the road early. The early going shows 10 winners on the home side to just five by the visitors, and with the odds presenting value we will ride the Twins here.

Free Bob Akmens
Columbia r630
-8.0 *OPINION* This play is the result of a successful computer model that has allowed Bob Akmens Sports to finish in first-place in 152 different categories of documented monitored handicapping contests since 1978.

The computer models I?ve developed for each sport look at the most-predictive variables that go into the winning and losing of games.

Several interesting factors in today?s play are as follows ?

HARVARD bums you out and does NOT cover when they?re [all figures are ATS (against-the-spread)]:

A road dog of +6.5-9 points this year: 1-5 ATS last 6 games

Any kind of a road dog: 1-6 ATS last 7 games

Trying to get revenge for a home loss to the team they?re playing: 3-6 ATS last 9 games

Playing a team with any sort of winning record: 6-12 ATS last 18 games

COLUMBIA, on the other hand, makes you money and COVERS when they?re:

Playing anybody this year: 10-3 ATS last 13 games

Playing another Ivy team: 7-3 ATS last 10 games

Playing in the cold month of February: 6-2 ATS last 8 games

Playing a lousy team like Harvard with its 8-18 SU record (actually any team with a losing record): 5-1 ATS last 7 games

GO WITH COLUMBIA -8 IN THIS 700PM EST MATCHUP

UNDER Mavs/Kings
Game: Sacramento Kings vs. Dallas Mavericks Game Time: 2/29/2008 8:35:00 PM Prediction: under Reason: I'm playing on the Mavs and Kings to finish UNDER the number. The Kings and Mavs have played a pair of extremely high-scoring games against each other so far this season. Those results, combined with the fact that the Kings have been playing high-scoring games recently, have helped tonight's over/under line to climb above the 200 mark. I feel that is too high for a game at Dallas. Note that four previous series meetings here since 2006 have all had over/under lines in the 190s or high 180s. The Mavs saw their most recent game here land right on the total with 194 points. That was against a Bulls team that, like the Kings, came in having played a series of high-scoring games. That game marked just the second time since Christmas that the Mavs have played a home game after having played the previous day. The previous time that they were in that situation, 12/27 vs. Cleveland, they managed just 81 points. Overall, the UNDER is 28-19-1 when they've played the second of back to back games over the past three seasons. Including the recent "push," the Mavs have seen the UNDER go 9-4-1 their last 14 games here. The only two teams to reach triple-digits during that stretch were the Lakers and Suns and those two teams score more points on the road (Golden State scores more at home) than any other teams in the league. The Mavs have seen the UNDER go 6-3 when facing a team which allows more than 99 per game and 4-1-1 when listed as a home favorite in the -9.5 to -12 range. The last time that the Mavs played a home game, following a loss in their previous game, they held Portland to just 76 points. While they won't likely keep the Kings that low, I do expect them to play well on the defensive side of the ball once again and for the final score to stay below the generous number. *Western Conference TOM

PACERS
Game: Indiana Pacers vs. Toronto Raptors Game Time: 2/29/2008 7:05:00 PM Prediction: Indiana Pacers Reason: I'm taking the points with INDIANA. I expect the Pacers to be the hungrier team tonight. While the Raptors know that they'll be returning to the playoffs, the Pacers are currently on the outside looking in. They know that they desperately need to snap their skid and start winning some games. Additional motivation will be provided by the fact that the Pacers have lost all three meetings with the Raptors this season, including Monday's loss at Indiana. The Pacers played the Raptors tough in that game though, losing by only four. In fact, all three of this year's meetings have been decided by 11 points or less and the Raptors have only beaten the Pacers by more than a dozen points in one of the past 20 meetings overall. The Raptors come in on off three straight wins, including an impressive 107-85 victory over the T-Wolves on Wednesday. They're just 1-3 SU/ATS this season after three or more consecutive wins though and a money-burning 34-46-3 ATS in that situation over the past decade. The Raptors are also an ugly 3-11 SU/ATS this season after allowing 85 points or less in their previous game. I expect them to have their hands full this evening. *Best Bet

GOLF

Take Camillo Villegas (33-1), 1/6 unit: Florida is Spidey's happy place. In his rookie year of 2006 he finished T2 at Doral and T3 at the Players. And last year he was in the four-way playoff at the Honda (P2).OK, so this is both a horse for course and mate of the sunshine state pick. Take Boo Weekley (25-1), 1/6 unit: Weekley was in that playoff last year, too. He should have won but he missed a 3-footer to force the playoff. Putting remains his Achilles heal. You have to like how he shakes it off, though. He's playing well so far this year with three top-10s---nice momentum heading to his home state for the four-tourney swing. Take Justin Leonard (20-1), 1/6 unit: I was rooting for him to do well last week, even though I didn't pick him. If Augusta happens tomorrow, he'd be one of my three outright picks. He is playing so well right now that it has to be just a matter of time before he bucks up to the pressure of playing in contention. Leonard was awful in his loss to Stewart Cink, mis-hitting irons and losing putts. That was an aberration, though, in a strong start to the year: he hasn't missed a cut and he has four top-10s in six tournaments. I am thinking it is a matter of time but I can't afford to wait until The Masters to pick him.

Don-

He does not have a money management system. Personally, I do the following. I play the Superpicks for 2.5x more than the regular plays. I am up using this system but it has been a wild ride. he won 10 in a row on SP's and was 5 games above .500 on regular plays in the beginning, but he went through that awful awful streak where I gave it all back and than some. Than he got hot again. Like I said, he has hit 63% overall, so after paying all this money for his plays, I am slightly ahead, but not much.

I would strongly advise playing the SP for more than the regular picks. He does better with them.

Black Magic Sports

Black Magic Sports

2-1 Yesterday, 7-1 last 2 days, and on 1 hell of a run overall lately. He must have sold his soul to the devil for a 2 headed coin!

NBA:

5 Unit Black Magic NBA Dog of the Week on Sacramento Kings +9

The Kings catch the Dallas Mavericks in a great spot tonight. Dallas just played a physical, emotional game against the San Antonio Spurs last night where they lost in the final seconds by just 3 points. It will be extremely tough for the Mavs to recover from this devastating loss in just 24 hours time. The Sacramento Kings will come into this game the more hungry team after having a days? rest to think about the recent 3-game skid they have been on. Sacramento will bounce back tonight in a big way and pull off the upset of a shaken up Mavs? team. Sacramento is 12-2 ATS after having lost 3 of their last 4 games this season. Dallas is 2-12 ATS in home games off a close loss by 3 points or less to a division rival since 1996. History has been great for the Kings in the spot, but terrible for the Mavs following a tough loss. We will bet along with history and cash in with the Kings as the underdog.

3 Unit Sharp Play on Golden State Warriors -5

The Warriors are showing great value tonight as just a 5-point home favorite against the 76ers. Philly has been a sleeper this season at home, but their 10-18 road record is little to be desired for 76ers? backers. The Warriors are 19-10 at home this season and have won their last two home meetings with the 76ers by 19 and 9 points each. The Warriors have won 4 straight against the 76ers overall. Philly doesn?t match-up well with the high-octane style of offense the Warriors run. They are a slow-down team that can?t run with the Warriors. Philly is 9-22 ATS in a road game where the total is greater than or equal to 200 over the last 3 seasons. The odds makers are predicting a shootout and Philly can?t hang in this style of game. Cash in with Golden State as the favorite.

NCAA Basketball:

3 Unit Sharp Play on Iona +7

Iona is a sleeper tonight as the underdog to a Marist team playing without their best player. Marist has been missing Louie McCroskey dearly as of late. McCroskey was averaging 12.4 points and 5.6 rebounds before going down with an ankle injury. Marist has now lost 6 of their last 7 games overall and still find themselves a 7-point favorite here. Iona lost to Marist earlier this season and that is the reason they are showing such great value here. Iona is 10-2 ATS in road games revenging a home loss vs opponent over the last 3 seasons. Iona is 8-1 ATS in road games revenging a loss vs opponent over the last 2 seasons. Cash in with Iona as the underdog.
