WINNING POINTS

Tuesday, January 8

**PREFERRED
*Minnesota over Miami by 8
This isn?t so much a recommendation on Minnesota, but a fade on Miami. The Heat
play no defense, have bad chemistry (hello Ricky Davis), an unsettled playing rotation
and are terrible at point guard. The Timberwolves figure to be motivated since they
play only one more home game during the next 14 days. It?s Miami?s third consecutive
away contest. MINNESOTA 109-101.

**PREFERRED
Orlando over *Sacramento by 13
There?s only one way to play the Magic away from Orlando ? and that?s take them.
The Magic are a phenomenal 16-3 (84 percent) ATS during their first 19 away contests.
Dwight Howard has the most double-doubles in the league. The Kings? soft
front-line has no answer for him. There?s a chance the Kings could have star shooting
guard Kevin Martin (check status) back, but Ron Artest is dealing with a chipped bone
in his elbow. Sacramento was 2-7 in games Artest has missed this season through Dec.
29. ORLANDO 113-100.

**PREFERRED
Southern Miss* over Central Florida by 14
UCF seems like kind of a fraudulent entry that had a better-than-average non-conference
season because nobody really paid attention to them. Larry Eustachy has some
longer, leaner, meaner fellas on his Southern Miss roster and they are beginning to
score the ball at a better rate. They are up from 61 to 69 to 78 points per game now
in his third season. SOUTHERN MISS, 79-65.

Tue, 01/08/08 - 7:05 PMJWhip | NBA Total
double-dime bet706 WAS / 705 HOU Over 188.5 BetUS
Analysis:
Rockets/Wizards Over 188.5 (2 Unit)

The Houston Rockets are again without Tracy McGrady for this matchup, but unlike other years this hasnt slowed down this Rocket team.

Houston has won two straight and four of six. Yao Ming is averaging 23 points in McGradys absence. Rafer Alston, Bonzi Wells, and Luther Hard have all stepped up as well combining for 33 points last time out against the Knicks.

The Washington Wizards are also winners of two straight, and are fresh off back-to-back 20+ point defeats of the Bucks and Sonics. They have combined to score 109 points in those wins, and are averaging 101 points per game over their last five.

Despite these big victories, Wizards coach Eddie Jordan has challenged his team when the big boys like Houston and Boston come to town.

Over the last two seasons these two teams have averaged 219 points combined when meeting in Washington.

Take the Over as our Top NBA Play of the Day for Tuesday.

TUESDAY:

GEORGE MASON over *Delaware...CAA scouts indicate a significant gap exists this season between loop ?haves? and ?have-nots.? And
though Delaware HC Monte Ross making slight progress in second year of major rebuilding job, Blue Hens still lack depth and manpower of
conference elite such as GMU, reflected in the severe beating U-Dee continues to absorb on boards (outrebounded by hefty 12 caroms pg
entering January). And that lack of presence in paint is bad news vs. an experienced baseline operator such as Patriot sr. frontliner Will
Thomas. Major class difference like year ago, when GMU won both meetings handily.
GEORGE MASON 81 - *Delaware 58 RATING - 11

*NEW ORLEANS over Denver....CTO sources urge us to support revitalized 11-2 New Orleans, which has quickly morphed into genuine Sun
Belt contender under new, enthusiastic, well-trained 30-year-old HC Pasternack (spent last 8 years as Ben Braun assistant at Cal).
Privateers reigning Sun Belt Player of Year 6-0 sr. G McCalebb (22 ppg, 42% treys) will continue to impress NBA scouts vs. Denver?s thin
backcourt sans requisite playmaker (leading assist man is 6-8 C Tanner!). Youthful Pioneers (5 underclassmen play extensive mins.) unable
to milk clock vs. go-go NO (77 ppg) extending margin with accurate FT shooting (74%).
*NEW ORLEANS 81 - Denver 57 RATING - 10

Just an fyi, these games are Wed 1-9.

Wow, kind of quiet in here this morning. Many folks still hurting over OSU LN I guess. That was a perfect example of how you really need to buck the cappers when they are 65% or more on a side and the play seems obvious.

I've been watching this for years and would have actually taken the time to do a statistical study on that phenomenon. If it hadn't been so steady and obvious to the tune of about 65%.

Moral of the story seems clear to me:

YOU CAN MAKE A LIVING FINDING THE COUPLE OF GAMES EACH DAY THAT ALL THE CAPPERS LIKE AND FADING THEM.

When you think about it, it really makes sense. How could the books make a living (they never truly "balance" their books like they'd like to). The most ugly plays, hated by most, is where the $$$ is.

Just thought I'd throw that out as it's a little quiet in here today.

PS Thanks Eddie and Giants for the posts.

VEGAS EXPERTS TIP OF THE DAY

Seattle Sonics at Cleveland Cavaliers
Tuesday, January 8th, 7:05 PM ET

Cavs have cranked up the "D" of late, holding their last six opponents to 94 points or less. They are 6-1-1 Under their last eight contests and should be able to clamp down on a Seattle club short on offensive weapons. Sonics have gone under in five-of-six and lost Sunday in Washington 108-86 so will be looking for a better defensive effort of their own in this one. They are 12-3 UNDER after allowing 105 points or more this season while CLEVELAND is 55-36 UNDER as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points over the last 3 seasons.

Play on: Under
