Jeff Overton to win 200-1

Here's a guy who finished fourth last year, with consistent rounds, and made 5 of 6 cuts in his previous starts here. Just an average start to 2013, Jeff will heat up soon and make some noise.

Tournament Matchups (1u)
Stenson ov Olesen -140 ? Stenson finished 21st last year with a 9th place in 2009 while this is Olesen?s first event at this track. Both players in good form but give the edge to Stenson based on course history. Stenson also has better GIR% and Par 4 Performance (two key stats for this tourney) in 2013. Throw in the fact that Stenson sits at 53 in the OWGR and needs a good finish to qualify for the Masters should be enough for this wily veteran to get it done over Olesen.

Henley ov Noh -115 ? Noh has missed three straight cuts and four of eight this year (in addition to a missed cut last year in this event) with a high finish of 16 at NTO in 2013. Henley won the Sony and has a 13th place finish at Honda. He is coming off a missed cut last week but I like his advantage in GIR%, Par 4 performance strokes gained-putting, scrambling and the all around ranking over Noh.

Compton ov Harman -120 ? Give a slight edge to form for Compton over the past four tourneys (16-30-24-4) vs Harman (MC-14-18-MC) with only 2 MC?s (out of 8 events) for Compton this year vs. Harman?s 4 MC (out of 10 events). Harman also MC in last year?s event while Compton finished 42. Bigger edge to Compton over Harman in GIR%, Par 4 Performance and Scrambling.

Round 1 plays (2pts):

Michael Thompson to beat Russell Henley -102 @ Pinnacle [available generally]
I still believe that Henley is overpriced since the win in his season-opening event in Hawaii - he has recorded just two top-50 finishes in six strokeplay events since that win. Thompson, by contrast, has been performing far better since the Tour moved eastwards - he won the Honda Classic and finished 8th in the Cadillac Championship. With course experience on his side - he finished 24th here two years ago - against none for Henley, I make Thompson the favourite in this matchup.

John Senden to beat Bo Van Pelt +100 @ Bet365 [also available @ 5Dimes and Paddy Power]
BVP has disappointed this year. His best finish in seven starts in 2013 is 16th and for a player ranked 25th in the World Rankings that is a poor return. He hasn't played here since missing the cut in 2010, so it looks unlikely that he will improve his 2013 form this week. Senden has finished ahead of him each of their last four strokeplay events and has finished in the top-35 in each of his six visits to the Tournament Course at Redstone. As with Thompson, I believe the wrong player is being favoured by the oddsmakers.
