No way the Gold Medal game should be decided this way.

It has been like that in international hockey since 1988, so fucking dumb. Just like World Cup soccer, beyond stupid to have it all decided with a shoot-out.

Been saying this for years, it is ludicrous to decide a Championship in any sport by breakaways or penalty kicks.

It would be like deciding the NBA finals with free throws!

It really is a shame when a major sporting event is decided in such a stupid manner.

It's really a shame when a player from your country rips off the silver medal and refuses to wear it.

She wasn't the only one, and it was awesome, absolutely loved that, I wish the entire team did that (5 members left their medals in the arena). There are only two teams in women's hockey (if you are American or Canadian) finishing second means nothing, absolutely nothing, it means you finished last.

Their were 3 USA players that did the exact same thing in the last Olympics and 8 years ago as well, and as I said I think it was great to do that, those American ladies should be applauded for that back then and the Canuck ladies should be applauded for that now. Who the hell wants a medal for finishing last?

Kids get medals for everything now, you get a fucking medal for brushing your teeth or breathing for fucks sake. Nobody gives a shit about winning now, all about participation trophies and everybody getting a fucking medal.

Bottom line if you are American or a Canadian women's hockey player and you finish second in the Olympics you finished last, there is no depth at all in women's hockey, none, getting a silver medal means you finished last. All those Canadian ladies that trashed their medals get my respect, good for them:0054

I would have done the exact same thing, good for them, maybe that will teach kids a lesson that you shouldn't get a medal for everything.

Which is last (if you are Canadian or American).

And for the record Women's hockey should not even be an Olympic sport, the game has not grown since its inception, still only two teams, no depth at all in the sport, nothing has changed, it will continue to be USA/Canada forever.

2nd = last

That's how much I know. Only 2 teams?

They shouldn't even have it then.

I have watched a total of zero minutes of this Olympics.

Well technically there are more then two teams, but it would be like having an NCAA basketball tournament with Villanova and Duke and then every other team would be made up of Elementary school children.

Would you think you accomplished something if you lost in the final? No you would not.

If women's hockey continues in the Olympics it will always be USA versus Canada for the gold.

That medal also means you were good enough to be there and beat out hundreds/thousands of others to earn your spot on the team. It represents the work you put in to getting there and should not be dismissed as you say.

It's also incredibly disrespectful to the players and teams that would have killed to win a medal. You are pretty much saying, "you are shit IMO".

This ^^^^^

Take note Kickserve.....I get that it's a tough loss and she's a competitor. But where it's completely wrong to do while everyone is watching you as you receive it, is it makes a mockery of winning a silver medal. Some countries have never won a medal, and a silver or bronze is a very important to them and all the others who win a medal for their hard work. It minimalizes winning a silver or bronze for all those who worked hard for 4 years just to win any medal. That, in essence, is the definition of a poor sport and is completely disrespectful to the fundamental ideals of good sportsmanship.

On the other side but good luck with your play.

The Americans did the exact same thing in Sochi and Vancouver, and I had no problem with it. If the medal means nothing don't wear it, it is your medal you can do what you want with it. There is no disrespect in my eyes at all. Now if you take the medal off and throw it at somebodies face then that is poor sportsmanship, but taking a medal off and throwing it away is not any sign of disrespect, it is your medal you can do what you want with it. If you have any pride at all you get rid of it and that is why the American players trash them when they lost the last 4 Olympic games and that is why the Canadians did it this time. And guess what it will happen again in 4 years, why? Because the silver medal means shit (if American or Canadian) that's why.

The American women hockey teams lost to Canada in the last 4 Olympics prior and many of those players trashed their medals because those medals mean nothing, and now that Canada lost in a shoot-out those players are doing the same thing. When there are only two teams there is no pride at all when you finish 2nd. I would have done the exact same thing if I got the medal, take it off my neck and throw it away, I'd chuck it in the crowd so some kid could pawn it.

By the way the American coach had no problem at all with what happened, he said he would have done the exact same thing if he got a silver medal, why? Because it means you finished last.

Fuck this shit where everybody gets a participation medal and everybody gets a trophy for doing nothing. And that is exactly what the case is in women's hockey if you are on the American or Canadian team, it is no accomplishment
at all for making the final, they could play blindfolded and make the final. So why the hell would you be happy about finishing second?

Hell you have high school basketball teams with 98 players on the team because nobody gets cut, fuck that shit, stop awarding everybody for doing fuck all. And that is exactly the case in women's hockey if you are American or Canadian, you do fuck all to make the final.

So take your worthless medal off and get on with your day.
