it makes a mockery of winning a silver medal.

As it should be, because the sport has not evolved at all since the 90's, when you only have two teams that are any good then the sport should not even be in the Olympics, so hell yeah it should be mocked.

If you continue to have this sport in the Olympics then just hand out the Gold Medal and just have USA and Canada play after the opening ceremonies, get the game completed and be done with it.

The next 20 years (just like the prior 20 years) it will continue to be USA/Canada in the final, bank on that.

And don't have the game end in a bullshit shoot-out for fucks sake:mj12:

On the other side but good luck with your play.

The Americans did the exact same thing in Sochi and Vancouver, and I had no problem with it. If the medal means nothing don't wear it, it is your medal you can do what you want with it. There is no disrespect in my eyes at all. Now if you take the medal off and throw it at somebodies face then that is poor sportsmanship, but taking a medal off and throwing it away is not any sign of disrespect, it is your medal you can do what you want with it. If you have any pride at all you get rid of it and that is why the American players trash them when they lost the last 4 Olympic games and that is why the Canadians did it this time. And guess what it will happen again in 4 years, why? Because the silver medal means shit (if American or Canadian) that's why.

The American women hockey teams lost to Canada in the last 4 Olympics prior and many of those players trashed their medals because those medals mean nothing, and now that Canada lost in a shoot-out those players are doing the same thing. When there are only two teams there is no pride at all when you finish 2nd. I would have done the exact same thing if I got the medal, take it off my neck and throw it away, I'd chuck it in the crowd so some kid could pawn it.

By the way the American coach had no problem at all with what happened, he said he would have done the exact same thing if he got a silver medal, why? Because it means you finished last.

Fuck this shit where everybody gets a participation medal and everybody gets a trophy for doing nothing. And that is exactly what the case is in women's hockey if you are on the American or Canadian team, there is no accomplishment
at all for making the final, they could play blindfolded and make the final. So why the hell would you be happy about finishing second?

Hell you have high school basketball teams with 98 players on the team because nobody gets cut, fuck that shit, stop awarding everybody for doing fuck all. And that is exactly the case in women's hockey if you are American or Canadian, you do fuck all to make the final.

So take your medal off and get on with your day.

And that ladies and gentlemen is your definition of a poor sport. Wah! We didn't win. I refuse to wear this medal. I'm going to lay on the ice and kick my legs and scream like a little baby. Thankfully you're from Canada. She did the right thing and apologized today. You're a poor sport. You're not a role model, nor will you ever be a role model. You're the embodiment of what is wrong with some people in sports today. It's the me, me, me generation.

I have no problem with her not wanting the silver. I totally get that. I have a huge problem with her taking it off during the awards ceremony immediately after receiving it. That's NOT a good role model. All the young women who watched a great, hard fought game, and the spirit of a great battle, watched her act like a baby. Poor, bitter little cry baby. The game was a great step forward for women's sports all around the world. It didn't deserve such a poor sport to ruin that moment. And show me the video of the Americans who took their medals off during the awards ceremony in Sochi.

I couldn't give two shits about the USA and Canada dominating hockey. It was a beautifully, hard fought battle and was just as exciting as any male sport. I don't cry because certain countries dominate in sports that are predominantly exclusive in their countries. The US would dominate every year, forever in basketball if we played our best five. Nobody is calling for basketball to be removed. Get better or shut the fuck up....

I completely disagree, she's my hero along with all those women's hockey players (Nagano/Salt Lake City/Torino/Vancouver/Sochi/Pyeongchang) that left their silver medals in the trash. Why be awarded a medal for accomplishing nothing.

Good for them.

That is a completely different point, I totally agree with you, the game was great to watch, the hockey is weak compared to the men but still an exciting gold medal game. More then half of Canada watched the game, it was all anybody could talk about. Great for women's sports to get so much attention.:0074

And THAT is my point. Everyone watched a great game in Canada and everyone saw a poor sport. Yes, people understood it, but none the less, she was not a role model for young people or old for that matter. Hence the reason she apologized. Sorry dude. You're dead wrong on this one. It's not good sportsmanship. PERIOD. Everyone loves a fierce competitor who doesn't like to lose. NO ONE likes a poor sport. Learn a lesson or be an asshole. It's pretty simple.....Pissing on a silver medal in front of millions to see is the definition of a cry baby and a poor sport.

Well you have your opinion and I have mine, she (and all the other women's hockey players that did that) did nothing "unsportsmanlike" in my opinion. She took the worthless medal off her neck, big fucking deal, who gives a fuck.

I find it refreshing that somebody in her age range actually gives a shit when they are presented with an award they did nothing to earn. So sick of all these kids nowadays that get rewarded for doing nothing. Hey look at little Timmy over there, he brushed his teeth this morning, give him a medal, and make sure he gets a participation trophy for showing up at the soccer game this weekend. Oh and don't keep score we don't want to hurt his self esteem if his team loses.

Sad and not a good look, man. But you're entitled to your opinion. Thankfully she realized what a poor sport she was and apologized. I give her a ton of credit for that. I'd be damn proud to win a silver medal. Out of millions and millions and millions of athletes around the world, I was in the top 3. Not many people can say they were the 2nd best in the entire world at a given event. I wouldn't want anyone pissing on that because of being a poor sport. There are thousands of athletes that have won a bronze or silver who feel the same way. Their hard work for most of their lives should not be minimalized or compromised by poor sportsmanship......

Here is the Olympic Athlete's Oath.....

"In the name of all competitors, I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules that govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams."

and more importantly. Here is the Olympic Creed.....

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part. Just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

I wouldn't if I did nothing at all to make it that far. When you are a member of a team and you can beat your opponents while you are sleeping you accomplish nothing. Sure you can put in all the hard work to get to that point but no satisfaction can be gained when the team you are playing can't even skate.

Like my previous example, if the NCAA Men's basketball tournament had Duke and Villanova and then the rest of the teams were made up of 8th graders, you should not be proud of yourself for making the final. And you sure as fuck should not be happy to get a second place trophy.

Have some pride in yourself and only accept an award when you actually deserve it.

To refer to the rest of the teams that qualified as, "8th graders," is just asinine and not fair. You're still coming off as a poor sport and a baby because you lost or you're defending a player who looked like an immature child who didn't et her way. You can polish that turd all you want and it's still a turd.....I'm not gonna argue any longer about it. People will form their own opinions about you from what you've written and I'll stand by mine as a position of integrity. I tried to give you chances to get a little respect back, but it's futile.

I gave you numerous chances as well.

I guess we both failed.

Perhaps we should both get a Silver Medal for our efforts:lol:
