Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Trevor Immelman to win 16/1 e.w. @ Paddy Power [6 places]
Yet to play on this course, but that was also the case last week and he still finished 3rd in the Mercedes-Benz Championship. The wind will once again be a factor and so will Tour rustiness, so the Southern Hemisphere player should again have an advantage over most of the field in this first full-field event of the season. But either way, he has shown over the last eight months that he is a world class player (ten top-10 finishes in his last 17 Tour starts) and should once again be a very strong challenger this week. Stan James offer 18/1, but as with the other selections, the added place is good value.

Nathan Green to win 66/1 e.w. @ BetInternet [6 places]
Green also comes into this event having been active over the PGA Tour off-season and very impressively as well. In his four Australasian Tour events since the 2006 PGA Tour season ended, he has finished 5th, 17th, 1st (New Zealand Open) and 7th. But unlike Immelman, he does have course form, having finished 5th last year on his debut with rounds of 65 and 64 over the weekend. He would go on to make the playoff for the Buick Invitational in his next event, so the value of early season preparation is evident with Green and that should produce dividends again this year.

J.B. Holmes to win 66/1 e.w. @ BetInternet [6 places]
Such early season preparation is not the case with Holmes who suffered from chronic tonsillitis last month and underwent considerable weight loss. Nevertheless, he finished a very impressive 4th last week, ranking 1st in greens in regulation and should his strength be maintained, he could certainly carry that form into another strong finish this week. He is certainly helped by the PGA Tour deciding that the rough should be no more than 2? inches - an inch shorter than last year when he finished 10th on his course debut. Before that event, he had missed both his cuts on the PGA Tour, but now he is in great form and is looking to repeat last year's early-season win.

Stan did you see this??
10. Practice makes perfect
Those who took advantage of the offseason to sharpen their games for the upcoming year saw their work have an immediate impact over those who preferred to kick back and relax for a few months. Consider the opening-round pairing of Singh and Ben Curtis: The former has, as usual, diligently worked on honing his craft, while the latter had barely touched a club. "He said he only played three rounds of golf since the the Tour Championship," Singh said after the first round. "And I said, 'Wow, it showed today.'" It showed in the final results, too, as Singh won the event and Curtis finished dead last.

Would have been nice to know that before tee off last week..
Also Maggart still has cracked ribs this week :SIB

I always like players from the Southern Hemisphere for the events in Hawaii. Once the Tour reaches California and there are a lot of players who have been able to practise in 'local' conditions, the impact lessens IMO.

A little unfair of that article to compare Vijay Singh and Ben Curtis :nono:

It was perhaps ironic that Paul was on a golf course when he spoke to www.paulgow.com on Friday 5th of January as he had been noticably absent from a golf course over the last few weeks.

"Since our (Paul Gow and Peter Lonard) Charity event on December 14th I have played in only one event that being a two day affair in the Hunter Valley but apart from that I have been spending time with the family and just relaxing," said Paul as he played a social round of golf with friend John Gibbs at Castle Hill in the north west of Sydney.

"I played a little bit of tennis actually but it was great to enjoy my time off and I can honestly say that I enjoyed my off season break more than I have previously. I feel I have my game and my attitude in good shape and given the way I was beginning to play at the end of the year in events like the last two rounds of the Australian Open, the Q School and when 4th at the Australian PGA Championship then I feel very good about what lies ahead. Mentally I just can't wait to be part of that (USPGA) Tour."

"I did head up to the Gold Coast for a couple of days and spent some time with Don Fardon (Paul's coach) which proved important in terms of continuing the progress I felt I was making towards the end of last year."

Paul leaves for Hawaii tomorrow to play the Sony Open which will be his first event of 2007 and his first PGA Tour event since the Southern Farm Bureau Classic in November of 2005.

"I will play Hawaii and then return to Sydney for a week before heading back to events such as the Buick Invitational, I might have to Monday qualify for the FBR Open in Phoenix and the Nisssan but will get a start in Mexico. Hopefully I will have done enough by then to benefit from the re-rank

Paul will have a new caddy on the bag in 2007 as New Zealander, Brendan Woolley, joins him on the USPGA Tour. Woolley has caddied in recent times for Phil Tataurangi and Paul was pleased to be able to secure the services of a caddy he rates highly. "Phil (Tataurangi) will have only minor medical exemption status this year and so Brendan was available. He caddied for me in a few events a few years ago and we got on well so it has worked out well."

Might be a good fade

Phar I sure do miss that little book--always had unique lines and seemed to always throw in a clinker.
--by the way--great job on matches in 06 and expecting the same in 07 :)

Whaler--was an improvement but at times their top 4 was better than others top 5 as you got tad better odds and they paid full odds regardless of how many tied for 4th.

Hi Guys,

I will be a new addition to the forum this season. Hope I can add to what is already a very profitable forum! :SIB

First plays of the season :

Vijay Singh (6/1) General
David Toms (16/1) General
Davis Love III (25/1) General
Stephen Ames (40/1) Ladbrokes
Jerry Kelly (80/1) General

Some might accuse me of going for the obvious this week, but past winners have all been short prices, so will be very surprised if any of my selections fail to feature this weekend. All are capable of hitting the greens, and have some kind of form in Hawaii, and/or can play the wind.

Davis Love III to bt Geoff Ogilvy (10/11) Bet365 (72 Hole Match Bet)

Desperately want to be against Ogilvy this week, who has never made the cut here, and didnt go as well as expected last week on a course that suited him. This will be tougher for Ogilvy this week, and if he fails to find the greens, he could shoot a high score. Love III is in my outright list, so is an obvious candidate to oppose Ogilvy.

Good Luck Guys :toast:
